    Your eyes do not deceive you. This really is a fabled second upload in a row on House Hexagon!
    There’s simply so many interesting developments going on in the gaming industry at the moment that I think should be addressed.
    Curious on your thoughts as ever on this one. Yes, even those who will predictably regurgitate corporate narratives to defend their favourite brand!

      Or you can buy AAA games from years past, which tend to be way better gameplay and story-wise than modern ones, don't take up 300 GB of install space, and are actually content-complete (no microtransacitons, battle-pass, seasonal FOMO content, crappy "Twitch drops", etc.). You cough up $15 and get a good, complete game, with everything all there. Modern AAA games want you to spit out $100, then grind every single day, play all year-round for FOMO content, and then cough up an additional $5,000 in the in-game shop if you want everything.
      Indies and/or old games are all you need.

    • @TwoBs

      It’s shitty, but it’s also a genius marketing move on a company’s part because they knew streamers would be booting up lives to show their viewers the gameplay, ultimately getting a number of them with major FOMO to buy in early, as well.
      It’s why the industry will always be shit from here on. So many streamers and TH-camrs will sit and whine and complain about the state of things, yet eagerly go for early access copies, splurge on transactions for “content”, and basically beg to get copies for free from
      companies to play on day 1 so they can rake in the viewers … all while being oblivious to how they play a major part in things being the way they are now. Higher ups in companies only care about one thing: profit. Hype up a game enough and send certain content creators “swag”, and they’ll make enough to still break even … even if their game is absolute shit. Just see the new Saints Row - since we know the Saudi deal is what caused everything to crumble for the company, the profits were still okay. Not what they wanted, but they could’ve gotten by…
      Hype up a game, market how early access will be a whopping 5 days early, and watch them flock to it like flies on shit because they can’t go 5 days without playing the new thing everyone else is already streaming and talking about. It’s become the norm, sadly. All while TH-camrs and streamers continue to complain about those very predatory acts while pretending as if they’re just ordinary people with zero sway in these matters …

    I only ever bought 2 games for 60€ (during their launch weeks because it's 2 games I know I would really like) and I think 3-4 50€ games too. But most of the time, I buy for 25 or under, whether it's a deep sale or cheap steam key. I can't imagine what goes through someone's head to go rush in and buy the latest overhyped product, especially when it's all buggy and still missing future content for the complete edition.
    I remember Hitman being sold like pizza slices all over the place since 2016, buying the full thing would cost probably close to 200€. Then they finally merged the reboot trilogy into one and I bought it for 40€.
    As for pre-orders or "early access", I have never purchased them.

  • @BlueKunai
    @BlueKunai ปีที่แล้ว +16

    I haven't bought a game at launch or even pre-ordered for years now, usually because you can get it for much cheaper even a few months down the line or because it's a lot safer to wait even a few days for confirmation it's not utterly broken or a massive disappointment.
    Yet I know so many people who are gonna get sucked into a scheme like this because of how powerful FOMO is.

    I remember the price of 90s games being all over the place, from $50 - $90 depending on the genre & how many fx chips it had. I don't even know why Phantasy Star 4 was $90. Kirby Superstar & Chrono Trigger were about $70 but Streets of Rage 2 was the standard price. 90s era cd based games were all generally at $40. I remember buying Final Fantasy vii & Symphony of the NIght at day 1 for only $40. 2000s games were at $50, it didn't change until Xbox 360 set the industry standard at $60.

      @@borginburkes1819 Part of the reason they're so eager to do that. They make up some nonsense about "nobody buys physical anymore" (objectively not true, around 45% of game sales are still physical, and in Japan that number is absurdly high around 65-75%) and "convenience" (personally I find no sales and the game being ripped away from me when the servers go down later VERY inconvenient).

    As many others I almost always wait for a sale and usually get those games around 20-40€ after some time.
    In general most AAA-Games that have been released in the past years were very uninteresting to me to put it mildly, so I never even have the thought of spending a pricetag like that on a game.
    And with the money you'd spend on one AAA-Game you could buy many great indie games instead.

      Same, it may be my autism speaking but I cannot STAND limited-time, FOMO, battlepass, etc. content. When I buy and play a game, I want to see/experience everything it has to offer. So when I saw FO76, with *all* it's myriad of shop-exclusive content, battlepass timed FOMO content, etc. I factored it would cost both thousands of dollars, and hours upon hours of grinding to get the full game, so I dropped it about as quickly as I picked it up.

      Sadly game prices used to trend downwards even faster when they were physical. Since they were taking up physical shelf space, games that weren't selling super-hot would quickly get price-slashed to encourage people to buy them and make space for newer releases. And, not to mention used copies.

  • @MarvinPowell1
    @MarvinPowell1 ปีที่แล้ว +8

    Honestly? I think people are idiots for even paying $70 for video games nowadays. That is way too much for some broken glitchy downloaded BS that you can't run without a high speed internet connection to install a 100 GB patch for. If you're paying $70 for _that,_ you deserve to be parted with all your money. So I'd gladly watch gaming try to charge $100 for the same broken, buggy BS and watch it collapse on itself faster than Hollywood is, right now.
    For me, it's Steam sales or sailing the high seas. That's it. I'm still waiting for Street Fighter VI to drop down to $40.
    Also, games weren't $60 until the 8th gaming generation, which was the PS4/XB1 era, which was only just 2013. So games were only $60 for less than ten years, really. They were pretty much always $50 up until then. Games also don't need to cost that much because most of them are digital now and there's no hardware to mass produce. If anything, they should be CHEAPER as digital downloads.

    • @fearlesswee5036
      @fearlesswee5036 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The problem is I think that the cost of a game has less to do with the disc it's printed on (which costs like $0.15 in materials, and $0.25 in manufacturing; it's basically nothing.) and more with the insanely hyper-inflated budget. Halo Infinite for example cost 500,000 MILLION DOLLARS. That's higher than the GDP of some entire countries. And it *really* didn't show in the game's quality or feature-set; it had LESS content, LESS weapons and gamemodes, LESS vehicles, LESS maps, etc. than previous Halo games, which were made by a team like 10% the size and a budget less than 1% of Infinite's. So the game costs $60 and has microtransactions and yadda-yadda to make up for the INSANE amount of money poured into it.
      It may be because stuff is too tied-up in bureaucracy these days; corporate suits getting involved in the development process slowing things down, and constantly forcing developers to do X and Y because of a focus group or whatever, requiring corporate's permission to do any small change, etc. leading to a very slow and inefficient development process that just wastes time and burns cash.

    I would argue that we've already had the double dip model for almost 20 years now.
    in 2000 you bought a base game for 60-70 bucks with most if not all the bells n whistles included, with the option to buy extra dlc content on the side.
    in 2023 its normal now that the basic minimum viable product version of the game without ANY bells n whistles cost 60-70 bucks, and if you want the rest of the main game its 90 -120 bucks for the "deluxe" version with all the bells n whistles that came with the 60 dollar base game 20 years ago.
    The "early access" gimmick is a concept the big boys lifted from the indie game scene, after the industry saw how easy it was with early access indies and the 100's of millions of dollars Star citizen raked in, despite never even delivering a finished product, to cheat people out of their money once the "early access" label was attached to a product.

    You got it a little wrong. Video games prices varied but most games from the mid 90s to the mid 00s costed 50 dollars. They didn't start to cost 60 dollars until the PS3 and 360 generation.

    Well that was quite depressing , I just feel good knowing I rarely buy a AAA game , and that I don't watch any streamers especially when they play a game I appreciate coz most of the time they suck ass so it's unbearable and having way too much oldies to play to even care about waiting. Staying in the niches is good for now... but how long I dunno !

    I think this is good for everyone. The people with lack of money can spend 30% less on new games by simply waiting a few days. That's a huge discount for such a small tradeoff. You know exactly what you're getting in either case, so I don't see this as a dirty tactic.

    The definition of inflation is incorrect.
    Inflation is when new currency enters the system without a corresponding increase in productivity. Inflation is not when the price goes up. When you blow up a balloon (inflation the balloon) is does not float away because it is rising in the air. It floats away because you blow more air into it.
    The idea that inflation is when prices goes up is just New Speak. Increased prices is a symptom and not the cause. It has been redefined to be this because the people in charge do not want you to know they print money to buy your votes.

      I strongly disagree with this comment.
      While inflation can of course occur from merely printing more money, as mentioned via hyperinflation, there are many forms of inflation that do not occur directly because of such.
      Cost push inflation comes to mind, whereby due to increases in production costs, often due to events like wars or natural disasters disrupting supply, prices can increase as businesses simply force customers to pay more as to not dent their bottom line.
      Also wage spirals, whereby as a result of such increased prices, workers ask for higher wages to accommodate such, which often also results in higher prices for customers in response, creating a never ending cycle.
      Evidently as you define such as a redefinition, you must also be aware of these. I’d be curious to hear what alternative term you’d prefer to describe such! But in so far as it relates to today, inflation is more than accurate to use.

    • @Cloud_Seeker
      @Cloud_Seeker ปีที่แล้ว

      @@HouseHexagon You can disagree with it, but you are 100% wrong. You are wrong for the same exact reason a flat earther can disagree with me on the subject on a round earth. It doesn't matter how much they disagree with me. The earth is still not flat.
      Inflation is when more money has entered the system. You have INFLATED the system, aka blown more cash into the system like a balloon. This is literally why we used the word inflation and deflation. You inflate when you add more money to the system. You deflate when you remove money from the system.
      If you want to know exactly how money is inflated. Look at loans. You do not have money. You have a IOU that is called money. Every single government lives on debt as money only exist as long as someone else has taken out a loan. Banks do not give you someone else money when they lend you money. They create a IOU that you then use as money. When you pay back the loan, all you do is to remove the IOU from circulation and thus remove money from the system.
      You need to look up how modern banks operate.
      The reason prices goes up is because the money you have are worth less than before.
      If you wish to sell a product, but someone has increased the money supply with 50%. You have to raise the price to match that increase in the money supply. A dollar before the increase is not worth a dollar after the increase. If you have devalued the dollar, you must ask for more dollars to actually get the real value of product you sell.
      If we used gold coins instead, and someone mix in 50% silver into the gold coin. You have inflated the amount of gold coins. You have more "gold coins" without actually having more gold inside of them.
      But if you actually want the same amount of real gold you have to raise the price. A 100% pure gold coin is not worth as much as a 50/50 gold/silver coin.
      This has been the definition that has existed for thousands of years. If you go to the dictionaries from 40-60 years ago you will see this definition. The definition you have given is a false definition.

    It does baffle me that goomers assume they have any form of control with the game releasing “early”. It merely proves that companies can release the already finished product whenever they damn well please and jip you up not thinking paying 30 more smackaroos is a steal. Games themselves rarely release in a playable state and aren’t even good in the first place, and mfs willingly pay for “access” for a games release. I don’t even a benefit for the gamer, you loose money to be allowed to play a unfinished product early with more micro transactions and dlc down the line, all this culminating is literally a ticking time bomb at some point… not now but at some point.

Oh and your only paying for 25 hours of base gameplay since the ending to the game is dlc, oh and don’t forget to pay an additional $25 for in game items to make the game easier for you to beat and or dominate on multiplayer
