Both accents of Portuguese are melodic for non-Portuguese speakers because Poetuguese is a latin language and shares many features with the other romance languages. Usually the accent from Brazil is considered a little bit softer and the accent from Portugal more rolled.

I completely disagree, as a Portuguese I don't see any similarity between Russian and Portuguese. There may be similar sounds, but overall they are nothing alike. I can clearly distinguish a Russian speaking from afar, because to a Portuguese person it sounds like a person with a mountain accent.

Both have softer voices. I assume Leonardo is from the state of São Paulo (not the capital though). Miguel has a bit of Porto's accent, but not as hard as some people have. He also tried to speak a bit slower. One thing I find interesting about people listening to languages they don't know is how they're not influenced by the image that certain accents have. Like, for instance, sometimes people who are not from the North of Portugal can joke about the way they talk, but to someone from, say, Japan, they have no idea what that means. A non-Japanese person can tell some differences between the accents from Tokyo and Osaka, but they don't have the same negative (or positive) stereotypes, know what I mean?

I was in the airport the other day and there a white couple speaking a European language to each other. It sounded really like European Portuguese except I couldn't understand nothing (I know some basic Brazilian Portuguese). Turned out they were Russians.
Francamente nunca entendi essa do português soar a russo. Para mim não faz sentido, russo e português podem ter alguns sons parecidos, mas em termos de pronúncia o russo para mim parece uma pessoa com sotaque do interior (aqui dizemos do campo) a falar. É muito mais pesado. Não tem mesmo nada a ver, por exemplo, com o sotaque do português de Lisboa ou de Coimbra. Talvez o português do Norte seja (e é) mais carregado, diria menos melodioso.
@@augustosoares2662 I didn't understand where it came from either because I knew how European Portuguese and Russian sound like and they are not similar to my ears at all. But for whatever reason even I got confused. It might be due to the frequent "sh" sound ("sh" as in s in Lisboa), or how background noises affect the hearing, or maybe the fact that Russian itself has different dialects and some dialects sound more like European Portugese than others.

As a Brazilian, I think Brazilian Portuguese is sexier than Portuguese because I have to try really hard to understand what the person is saying, so I think if I were to be flirtatious, the flirtatious tone would be lost because I would be focused on the words. I don't know if that makes sense. And didn't the Portuguese of Portugal end up with an accent similar to French because there was a king who thought the French language was elegant and it kind of became a trend and today it is the "official" accent there? Embora seja português, acho que este tipo de teste devia ser feito sem conhecer os envolvidos, neste caso o português e o brasileiro. É óbvio que as moças, mesmo a brasileira, olhem para os dois e como os olhos não mentem sentem logo uma simpatia pelo português, simplesmente porque é mais atraente. Isso só por si já pode influenciar uma decisão. Mas como a maioria das envolvidas vêm de países asiáticos talvez isso tenha menos peso, mesmo a pronúncia. Como são asiáticas a pronúncia pode não ter assim tanta importância na escolha. Se fossem moças europeias talvez fossem mais para o lado da pronúncia brasileira. A escolha da brasileira foi feita mais na base da abordagem do que na pronúncia e nisso ela tem razão, não interessa que sejas português ou brasileiro, se não tiveres a abordagem mais correta a uma moça a pronúncia tem pouca importância. I agree, Brazilian Portuguese has a unique sensuality. Although Leonardo has a low, calm voice, which isn’t very common among Brazilian men who tend to have a stronger, more striking tone, if it were a man with a stronger voice, we would definitely score all the points.

Portuguese from Portugal or at least the way he speaks to me sounds VERY russian for some reason. There are so many "sh" sounds followed by more consonants and it heavily reminds me of russian. Sounds like a spanish person saying gibberish in russian trying to imitate the language if that makes sense.
I completely disagree, as a Portuguese I don't see any similarity between Russian and Portuguese. There may be similar sounds, but overall they are nothing alike. I can clearly distinguish a Russian speaking from afar, because to a Portuguese person it sounds like a person with a mountain accent.
For me as portuguese Brazilian sounds a lot like indians speaking hindi. Sounds like a peruvian guy saying gibberish in indian trying to imitate the language if that makes sense.

São os brasileiros quem conseguem dar a língua portuguesa falada essa sonoridade e tonalidade bonita que é explorada pela forma que falamos e pronunciamos as palavras de forma mais clara e com as sílabas completas em seus sons, ao mesmo tempo em que, combinamos os sons mais suaves, com os sons mais fortes conforme se pronunciam os fonemas e as palavras da língua. São esses, motivos das pessoas não falantes da língua portuguesa, acharem tão bonito o português falado pelos brasileiros, e ainda perceberem essa forma melódica com essa sonoridade bonita que parece cantada pelo modo como se fala e se expressam as pessoas no Brasil.

Não acho que existam sotaques melhores ou mais bonitos que outros, mas quando você ouve um brasileiro e um português pronunciarem palavras como "colesterol" e "confortável", verás a diferença. Infelizmente aqui no Brasil as pessoas estão empobrecendo a língua falada por falarem muitas gírias e expressões sem graça, e por cometerem muitos erros de gramática e até de concordância.

Both have softer voices. I assume Leonardo is from the state of São Paulo (not the capital though). Miguel has a bit of Porto's accent, but not as hard as some people have. He also tried to speak a bit slower.
One thing I find interesting about people listening to languages they don't know is how they're not influenced by the image that certain accents have. Like, for instance, sometimes people who are not from the North of Portugal can joke about the way they talk, but to someone from, say, Japan, they have no idea what that means. A non-Japanese person can tell some differences between the accents from Tokyo and Osaka, but they don't have the same negative (or positive) stereotypes, know what I mean?

@@fernandoo.8737 é verdade. O sotaque de Coimbra é considerado o mais culto e neutro de Portugal. Lisboa tem as sua idiossincrasias (como dizer "toiro" em vez de "touro" e "dezóito" em vez de "dezoito"). Pessoalmente, prefiro o sotaque de Trás-os-Montes. Tem uma sonoridade mais aprazível.

I was in the airport the other day and there a white couple speaking a European language to each other. It sounded really like European Portuguese except I couldn't understand nothing (I know some basic Brazilian Portuguese). Turned out they were Russians.
Francamente nunca entendi essa do português soar a russo. Para mim não faz sentido, russo e português podem ter alguns sons parecidos, mas em termos de pronúncia o russo para mim parece uma pessoa com sotaque do interior (aqui dizemos do campo) a falar. É muito mais pesado. Não tem mesmo nada a ver, por exemplo, com o sotaque do português de Lisboa ou de Coimbra. Talvez o português do Norte seja (e é) mais carregado, diria menos melodioso.
@@augustosoares2662 I didn't understand where it came from either because I knew how European Portuguese and Russian sound like and they are not similar to my ears at all. But for whatever reason even I got confused. It might be due to the frequent "sh" sound ("sh" as in s in Lisboa), or how background noises affect the hearing, or maybe the fact that Russian itself has different dialects and some dialects sound more like European Portugese than others.
It's interesting to see from other people's perspectives what portuguese spoken in both countries sounds like.

Brazilian Portuguese is like American English: no one uses it in other countries, unlike Portuguese from Portugal which is the same as in Angola, Mozambique, etc. And British English which is used in South Africa, Australia, Ireland, etc.

Embora seja português, acho que este tipo de teste devia ser feito sem conhecer os envolvidos, neste caso o português e o brasileiro. É óbvio que as moças, mesmo a brasileira, olhem para os dois e como os olhos não mentem sentem logo uma simpatia pelo português, simplesmente porque é mais atraente. Isso só por si já pode influenciar uma decisão. Mas como a maioria das envolvidas vêm de países asiáticos talvez isso tenha menos peso, mesmo a pronúncia. Como são asiáticas a pronúncia pode não ter assim tanta importância na escolha. Se fossem moças europeias talvez fossem mais para o lado da pronúncia brasileira. A escolha da brasileira foi feita mais na base da abordagem do que na pronúncia e nisso ela tem razão, não interessa que sejas português ou brasileiro, se não tiveres a abordagem mais correta a uma moça a pronúncia tem pouca importância. E vê-se que a brasileira tem um fraquinho pelo português, o que é natural, pois já devem conhecer-se há algum tempo e parecem ter mais ou menos a mesma idade e se estão a estudar juntos é natural que falem muitas vezes e tenham muito em comum, a começar pela língua.
