In Sweden we have a new praxis to prevent this: the store is bound by law to disclose the lowest price the item has held for the last three months, and display it next to the “Black Friday sale” price.
The sales suck now. Black friday was way better 20 years ago.
Agreed
Everything was better 20 years ago!!
@@Jen-LUCKY13- no truer words!
Now a $200 polyester sweater is $150. Both crazy prices
There were also a lot more fatalities with the stampedes lol
Also, the stores stock their worst quality items for black Friday.
I have seen that happen too 😫
I gave up on Black Friday years ago. So many of the big retailers bring in things to sell at discounts and they are inferior products. Pass!
Black Friday used to be known as the day after Thanksgiving sales, the first official day of Christmas shopping. Somewhere along the way, it was decided that since that day of sales put stores in the 'black', it was named as black Friday. It went all nuts from there. Stores spending big bucks promoting it, opening at midnight with people camping outside of malls. Stampedes and fights for cheap junkie tv sets. Many years ago, I was told by a big box employee that the stuff they sell very cheap was specifically designed for that day to sell. They were made of left-over components and made very very cheap. It was such a turn off, I never went out on that day again. Anyway, the other day I was scrolling down on social media, I see European countries promoting black Friday specials, so it went worldwide. In fact, I have seen black Friday specials as far back as July.
You are correct about items being produced specifically for that day. In fact, they have separate sku’s that identify them as such. It’s the only visual difference between the packaging of those items from their normal priced counterparts. They don’t do this with EVERYTHING , mind you. But they do it with thing like tv’s , phones, game consoles, etc.
If these “green” countries really want sustainability they need to have these manufacturers produce high quality items that you can actually take to a seamstress or cobbler to fix an item. Also, clothing needs to be made from natural fabrics like cotton, bamboo, silk, and wool instead of polyester.
I got pants a week ago the same deal that a store has for black Friday 😅 no new deals
They try to do us dirty all the time. Whyy 😭😭😭💖
Now a days they have black Friday deals fir the whole week
Retailers now have sales almost all month or weekly. I’m sure the signage had to be specific for that actual Black Friday but probably that item had been on sale for the week. Yes Black Friday isn’t what it used to be and to be I’m kinda glad. I was never a fan of the stampede of people acting like savages for product.
I think after living through a very materialistic era of my life. Defining your style and staples are important. Know your brand and what makes you happy. Have rules and control on spending/storage and use. For example, I only like white sneakers that are plain white leather or anything dainty like a ballet flat, these will always get used up and they are even better when I get it on sale.
I agree with you 100%, I rather pay the full price in an empty ish store than wait in line for measly discount. I used to wk for Macys and the BF “deals” were better during any other previous sale, and still are. I have NEVER shopped at any BF sale. Not my thing.
Time is money!
Omg even Australia has black friday sales and we don't even know what it means 🤣
True, we don’t, but I’ve been enjoying bargains for the past two weeks, no matter the name. By Black Friday, I’ve shopped all the sales and I’m done. Summer wardrobe complete.
Black Friday started the day after Halloween…..sheesh!!…….ridiculous……I remember when it was the day after Thanksgiving….yes, I’m that old!!😂. Seriously, we should reevaluate our buying as a society……..it’s gotten out of hand…..jmo. Thank you for this video and topic ❤. Linda S
Thank you Linda 🥰🥰🙏🏻💖💖💖
Hellooooo from Italy !!! I ve been missing a lot of videos but glad to be back !!!
Hello dear 🥰🥰🥰💖
I was told to wait for my Dyson Hairdryer until BF … I waited,a few months and it was on for 20% off😂🤣😂🤣…. It has been on sale on and off all year for that same price. I’m back to air drying my coils and saved my $$$’s i’m with you Dacob, I buy when I’m relaxed and ready to buy in a peaceful environment. 🥰🙋🏻♀️🇦🇺❤️🧡Stani
I just ordered a purse on Wednesday of Thanksgiving week for $177 then on Thursday it went up to $221 at Belk!!
I bought more gift cards than actual gifts this year. There were little to no actual sales this time around
I remember how it used to be as a teenager my cousins and friends are always looking forward to it. It was chaotic and crazy but it was a fun experience. Nowadays BF starts a month early to some stores then there's cyber Monday and "extended" cyber Monday sales.
I’m ready to spend on a nice experience, but I don’t want to be fooled for my own money.
In The Netherlands there were basically no discounts to be seen this year despite consumers having no cash to spend either
Czechia already made a law against this black Friday scam (and not only at black friday but year round) by the government - the prices has to be reduced from the original HIGHEST PRICE OF THE ITEM IT THE PAST 30 Days - and they control the shops very rigorously and charge them a very high fine otherwise . Along with the new, sale price, there has to be the lowest price from the past 30 days marked on the item. It works and is a very good solution to protect the consumer in my country 👏🏻💡
We have the same law in Croatia and I have to say it doesn't work here. I follow the things I want daily and I've seen sites bypass that rule. How they do it is they offer an optional discount code. Let's say something has a price of 100 euro and the code gives one 30% off. Then next week the reduced price is 25% off and they don't have to put that the lowest price you could have gotten that item is 70 euro but they still say it was 100 euro because that 30% was not a formal discount.
I bought some make-up brushes online last week - they were like 60% off / brushes 70% off - a good deal. I received an email from the company about 'cyber monday' - 30% across entire website - they have gone up in price!!!!!! lollllz yup all a scam - trend items that go in the sale - the lowest prices - that's their real worth (you can always tell - that pastel sweatshirt in the mens dept; always hold fire until end sale lol)- classic items never go on sale - or just by like 10% - and there is ALWAYS another sale or new stuff they'll tell you to buy in a few months - like you say. just hold fire! and realise - we (in the priviledged economic world) really don't NEED 99% of the stuff we buy!
Ha ha i went once to black friday sales to the mall with my future hisband, that was years ago, i was new in country, just a few years, and it looked like fun😳😂, never again, i never saw something like that, ppl always run me over. It was horror movie 😱 like sheep. I dont fall for holiday sales or even any sales trap. I know what i want, and i know how much woukd cost with any sale or discount. And if its good and i need then i buy, but just buying for the sake, irs on sale, i dont do that anymore. And experience its also worth money, as long as its good 😜. Have a blessed day🙏❤️
Speaking of the experience in the boutiques...you never know if you going to be treated nice or rotten...
Couldn't agree more, if i am obsessed i know the price 😊. I am looking for deals only online and only in stores where i am already customer, as i don't want to be scammed. And yes, i buy only things that i really love. I don't get crazy looking for " deals" for things i don't know even if i like.
Yeah, to me Black Friday, cyber Monday, and holiday season deals all blend together lol. I’ve never went out on black Friday. I used to buy things online like a Samsung phone, but they stopped with those deals lol. I went out to Macys on Saturday. Got a coat and that was it. As you said, I always already know the products I want. In spray familiar with their price so I can tell if it’s a scam or not
@Dacob not just that all 10-50% off are scams. They raise prices a month before to sell it for regular day price during sale.
I did my Christmas shopping on Amazon (where needed as we do not have many psysical stores where I live) last month when I had the feeling the prices were good. Checking the Black Friday prices for the items I bought out of curiosity I noticed that most of them were not cheaper or even more expensive for Black Friday.
Before I buy anything I always make sure to know the market.
Could not agree more
🙏🏻🥰💖
I live in a European company. I bought ASOS design raincoat for 50€. The button on my raincoat was broken this spring. I paid 15€ for the repair. Now we are in November and now another button is broken. Will I repair the raincoat again for 15€? No!! I’ve already ordered online another raincoat for 38,25€ During the Black Friday.
That's so true a lot of people buy items they don't need. But America is a materialistic country. Plus the economy profit based on consumer's spending. That's why we see lots of ads or influencers to get us to spend money. Shame on these companies for taking advantage.
Rewatching now I heardbyou say it's a waste of life and it really hit me how families lose loved ones for what?? For a tv?? Smh..
Yep… we got better ways to spend our precious time 🥰🥰🥰💖💫
Many years ago it was a tradition and back then it was fun. If I found a good sale, great but it was more about family and the start of holiday shopping. Never had problems, but the atmosphere is so different now. 😔 Though I never found anything I needed to get up early for...I do agree 💯 with what they do with the pricing, it's so deceptive.
Had my eye on a blouse I want at a major department store. Original price was $145. Two weeks ago the price dropped to $108.50. Checked the “Black Friday” price & it was the same. Cyber Monday price is $108.75!🙄
Duh, they raise the prices for an item a few weeks before the sales and put a "discount" on it so itll sell for the same price.
FOMO: priceless
The only places I have never seen this scammy behavior is believe it or not dollar tree or other dollar stores
What you are saying makes a lot of sense. Thanks Dacob.
Plus all buy one get one free is a scam they double price so you think your getting a deal but your paying for 2
In this footage both prices are sale prices and it appears the store are using red and green sale signs because other products only had red sale signs.
Amen so true I wait for after Christmas to get my chrristmas gifts
I’m french, living in France… I’ve never heard of this new “law”… clearly they’re not advertising it…
I just am not able to get an Insta account, for me, for turtle, or other babies. So, how did the videos go where you brought something out from your archives? I ended up getting a vintage bag because of something you showed/talked about? Or, how about a few "teaching"videos, like when you explained about shoe sizes and leather (if there was a seam on the inside of the shoe). Maybe some of those would get lots of thumbs up. I really (really) think you are in your own niche. You are not sponsored and you mix truth with being kind to your watchers. These are three things that not everyone else does.

Very well said Dacob!
Such contempt for their customers. Glad this was exposed.
Wiser words were never spoken!
Every year I’m getting prepared for Black
Friday, …for the thighs that I think to buy
Today everything is online I make a list a month or so before of what I want and check the prices and when we get to Black Friday I check again different stores which one has the best price. Everything online
Pick up in store or delivery🤪if the price the same it waits for next time
I don’t do crazy people line, nothing is worth that
I work at target 🎉so…
The discount starts before Most of the stores let you buy before if you are a member
And few days before for everyone else
Actually I really like this year discount in the clothing department 😉
BF is worth it for electronics or big appliances, for fashion unless you really know your prices not so much.
Target example may not be a good one since it was on SALE before BF and so the could argue that they kept it on sale for BFriday. Would be good to see somenof their other items that were not on sale beforehand.
No excuse. Still very sus and deceiving in my opinion.
“We will raise the pension age by five years but we are holistic and green so go fix your $32 amazon shoes at the repair shop babes 😘” - macaroon’s government
Agree!
The real deals happen Jan. 1st- March at the outlet malls.
