I am in the process of doing this. Idk if it was covered but you make sure your countershaft speed sensor is receiving a 5v refrance signal like it was designed, simply splicing the countershaft speed sensor plug on is incorrect because the differential driven speed sensor receives 12v

Awd ep3 here. I understand the wiring on the inside, as explained in this video. On the transmission plug side, I need to shave the plug to fit and cut the middle wire at the plug and run it to the MAP sensor for 5v power? Leaving the wire from the harness taped back into the harness
If you are going from the stock VSS to the Element's AWD transmission CSS, then you need to replace the plug. The only wire you will reuse is the signal wire. The other two wires, 5V power and logic ground, come from tapping into the MAP sensor.
Finally got around to getting it wired up. I wired the CSS plug as follows to no avail. Signal on plug to vss signal wire. Left the other two wires at the plug taped up. Wired the CSS 5v and ground to the map sensors 5v and ground. Changed to CSS in Kpro and have no luck. Any ideas what I'm doing wrong? Thanks again for your time.
@@TreadShredders Did you try running the CSS with the 12v first? That will kill it. Recheck the position of the wires. The information for the position is holding the plug with the clip up with the wires facing you.
I didn't. I'll check the wires when I get home. I also used a spacer for the sensor as I screwed it in, it would make contact with the gear and the trans wouldn't move. Maybe it's too far away now. I'll check wires and sensor position
I wanted to see is you can enlighten me lol. I’m having an issue with the speedometer not working in my car, I’m on a css and everything up to k pro works, like the sensor itself, the mph on k pro reads but my car isn’t, output on k pro is set on b11 and to the c101 plug .The thing is from b11 I’m not getting any volts. I am on a v4 hondata

Just finished my k24a2 swap into my rsx type s everything works fine speedo ready properly but it is still throwing a VSS malfunction code and won’t allow my vtec to engage. Any ideas of what is causing this? A connection issue or a physical issue with the actual Speed sensor. I am using the stock 02 rsx type s transmission. Please help vtec academy 😭 I miss vtec.

I recently did this to my k24a2 with a type s rsx harness from an 02 and it doesn't read the speed at all. When I went into Kmanager I switched from the recommended choice which is css driven to the non vss option and it pegs the speedometer at 50mph. When I go and switch it back to css speed sensor on k manager it doesn't read neither on the ecu or the cluster and it doesn't throw a code.

Also, brian don’t tell you this.. they just feed you enough information to fuck your shit up.. you must run the wires individually to the speed sensor, or you can do like I did and do it at the ecu plugs and feed your alternator 5v and jump through a pile of hoops trying to figure out why your shit isn’t charging! Man bout to give up on the speedo. Followed instructions on video to depin 101 and add wire from b11 to c101. Also have rewired css sensor from 12v to 5v from map power and wired ground to signal ground on map sensor. I have a k20z3 engine/trans swap going into an mr2. Everything will be run on the 02-04 rsx type s engine harness. The speedometer on the mr2 is ran on the abs system. As far as the hondata k pro. Does it need this signal for the engine and trans to function correctly outside of the use of the speedometer or can I run it without this working correctly??

i dont see the difference from hondata doing the install vs. a dealer ALL components in the kit are used so why does only a hondata installed ecu do this please explain technically or its not true if you cannot

If you have a vss harness and a css trans and I change the plug on the trans side would the wiring be the same for each plug or would the pins need to be moved around?
If you use the VSS wires, you will burn up the CSS. The VSS uses 12V and the CSS uses 5V. You need to use the 5V signal and sensor ground wires from the TPS (wired in parallel) with the Signal wire from A18 on the ECU.
So in this case, after depinning the wire from the c101 plug, would I still be able to just wire b11 to the orange wire at b10?!? I did this as per your last instructions, sans the depinning of the c101 plug wire and my speedo “worked” but it just pinned as soon as I rolled the tires and then when I slow down again to a near stop it goes backwards again...
You are giving the speedo the CSS signal which is many times faster than the VSS signal. You need to adjust the percentage output of the speedo to reduce the signal speed. Try starting with 10% and see where that gets you.
I’m going to try this because I have the same problem.. the rpm works so does the gas gauge ... the mph don’t work .... also I have a quick question if I plug in my transmission plug I can’t use reverse I have to leave it unplugged... can that be the reason I don’t have the mph working?

I'm not sure if I missed anything, but if i follow this video and change those wires from the c101 plug and linked it to the b plug as followed. do I have to alter the rsx plug wires to suit the css senor???? sounds like me finding this vedio may have saved my life
I have a K20z3 k swap in my 2000 ek with a RSX type S harness, everything on my OE cluster work except the RPM and the speedometer, If I do that harness rewiring would It work with the set up I have? Even though the civic si speed sensor signal (frequency) is different from the d16 Speedo sensor to the cluster. I’m running KTUNER ECU.
You can use the NEP for the tachometer. You'll need to wire that to the Speedo. On the CSS, check out the video on Speedometer correction in the quick tips.
@@BrianGillespie_brianathasport Thanks Brian I’m not sure what the NEP is and as for the Six speed gear box most guys I see on TH-cam modify the gear box housing so it can run a CSS in the rear that has the ⚙️ operated sensor rather that the magnetic pulse sensor at the front of the gear box. I think I’m at the point where I’m just going to by a HUD ( Heads Up Display ) and run it from the data link or get a digital clock from a S2000 for it to work. Is NEP a speedo frequency converter?
Can I do the same thing with my k24z7 swap? Have it running off the stock 2012 si computer and fuse box. Got the tach wired but haven’t sorted out the Speedo yet.
Hey guys - love the technical info! I’ve searched and searched, but is there a way to correct inaccurate speedo reading from vss in k20a2 EK? The speedo correction in parameters doesn’t seem to affect the speedometer reading while driving. It reads too fast ~ about 10mph off at 70mph when actually going 60mph.
Would this be the same for a 2007 Accord transmission? Also, would I need to repin the wires where the sensor plugs into the transmission, If I am using a 2002-2004 k20 type engine harness?
Yeah should be the same for accord transmission as it uses a css as well. Yeah you'll have to repin for the css because it needs a different voltage than vss but you can use the same signal wire

Run a speedometer conversion module like the one from Dakota Digital. Use the NEP on the E Plug to drive the tachometer. Add a the EM1 single wire temperature sensor to fee that info to the dash.

Question is the 96-2000 speedo pcb the same as the crv i swapped the gauge face to my 96 board and put it in the crv cluster when i plug it all in with the lens off to calibrate speedo needle it reads 0 but pass radar says im 15 under thanks

I know this video is old, but will this also work for swapping complete 02-04 JDM K20R into 05-06 RSX type S? We’re having trouble with getting the vehicle running. It’s almost in limp mode due to the Speedo not working properly. Thanks.
Basically 05-05 onward its CSS high frequecny signal your ecu is looking but that JDM tranny has VSS which operates on 12v and outputs a low frequency signal. So need to convert that low to high frequency using a converted like Dakota. But you can get car out of limp mode. There is an option in Flashpro about percentage adjustment to dash and ecu. just put 5000% there and the VTEC etc will work but speedo will still show very little speed. You will need a converted to get that speedo work.

It’s not really 50-50. The problem most people are having, is that their Kpro was not installed by Hondata. And that means this doesn’t work.

It sounds like the sensor is bad, or not powered. Did you wire the CSS with the 5 volt MAP voltage or the 12 volt VSS voltage?

You get the power and ground from the TPS wiring.

There may be a percentage of value written in for the speedometer output.

I have a Ep3 harness on a K20z4 tranny. Would this work on my setup as I have kpro v4? I've dropped the motor in to the es2 (similar to Em2) with a ktuned conversion harness?

How does this work? If you disconnect the wire going to the ecu from the vss and A plug, how does the ecu get a signal from the vss?
Maybe you haven't realize that both css and vss are speed sensors but in different location. CSS now gives that info to the ecu

@@VTECAcademy k20z4! The fn2 type R! 07-11 im pretty sure its the same as k20z3! As far as ecu! Any kind of ecu since i havent bought any yet! And transmission is the K20z4 5.063 gearbox transmission! I got a complete swap that i want to drop in a civic ek coupe! I wanna know what to purchase and watch out for before wasting any money! I can also however rebuild the transmission so it will be opened!

Check out my youtube channel videos of my civic si em1 i’m also selling the car also i already sold all my other nice cars… but had everything Complete to drop in.. its sad news but I wasn’t able to the swap even though i had thousands and thousands of dollars worth of parts i was gonna restore the entire setup on the civic si em1…. But due to certain circumstances i had to sell everything due to specific reasons sadly, i am possibly moving out of country international or i’m moving down south to florida from the eastcoast so i am not able to have such nice things and a lot of stuff otherwise its very costly and more shit i gotta think about and carry with me 😅😪
If you have a vss harness and a css trans and I change the plug on the trans side would the wiring be the same for each plug or would the pins need to be moved around?
If you use the VSS wires, you will burn up the CSS. The VSS uses 12V and the CSS uses 5V. You need to use the 5V signal and sensor ground wires from the TPS (wired in parallel) with the Signal wire from A18 on the ECU.
So in this case, after depinning the wire from the c101 plug, would I still be able to just wire b11 to the orange wire at b10?!?
I did this as per your last instructions, sans the depinning of the c101 plug wire and my speedo “worked” but it just pinned as soon as I rolled the tires and then when I slow down again to a near stop it goes backwards again...
You are giving the speedo the CSS signal which is many times faster than the VSS signal. You need to adjust the percentage output of the speedo to reduce the signal speed. Try starting with 10% and see where that gets you.
Did you end up depinning c101 and splicing in b10 abstrahere or did u just pin into b11

This works with rsx 02-04 harness on a 05-06 rsx transmission to make my speed work?
I’m going to try this because I have the same problem.. the rpm works so does the gas gauge ... the mph don’t work .... also I have a quick question if I plug in my transmission plug I can’t use reverse I have to leave it unplugged... can that be the reason I don’t have the mph working?
It's possible. If your ECU is set up to show a constant speed it may be activating the reverse lockout.
I know this is years later but im running a 03 accord apg6 honda accord transmission with a rsx type s harness on kpro on my 95 coupe will i have to modify my harness for my speedo to work?
Yes you will.
i got an 05 to 06 kpro with jumper on 05 honda element i get vss speed on the hondats when logging but speedo does not move at all now do i need to repin somthing to fix it
I'm running a css speed sensor on my gearbox and using a rsx 02-04 engine harness with a kpro v4 ecu. I'm not sure if I missed anything, but if i follow this video and change those wires from the c101 plug and linked it to the b plug as followed. do I have to alter the rsx plug wires to suit the css senor???? sounds like me finding this vedio may have saved my life
Dont run the CSS on the 12 volts from the VSS.
So what would you recommend?

I have a K20z3 k swap in my 2000 ek with a RSX type S harness, everything on my OE cluster work except the RPM and the speedometer, If I do that harness rewiring would It work with the set up I have? Even though the civic si speed sensor signal (frequency) is different from the d16 Speedo sensor to the cluster. I’m running KTUNER ECU.
You can use the NEP for the tachometer. You'll need to wire that to the Speedo. On the CSS, check out the video on Speedometer correction in the quick tips.
@@BrianGillespie_brianathasport Thanks Brian I’m not sure what the NEP is and as for the Six speed gear box most guys I see on TH-cam modify the gear box housing so it can run a CSS in the rear that has the ⚙️ operated sensor rather that the magnetic pulse sensor at the front of the gear box. I think I’m at the point where I’m just going to by a HUD ( Heads Up Display ) and run it from the data link or get a digital clock from a S2000 for it to work. Is NEP a speedo frequency converter?

No, you will need to use a speedometer signal converter like the one sold by Dakota Digital or Healtech.

I’ve searched and searched, but is there a way to correct inaccurate speedo reading from vss in k20a2 EK? The speedo correction in parameters doesn’t seem to affect the speedometer reading while driving. It reads too fast ~ about 10mph off at 70mph when actually going 60mph.

Yeah should be the same for accord transmission as it uses a css as well. Yeah you'll have to repin for the css because it needs a different voltage than vss but you can use the same signal wire

Hey Brian! I'm using a 2005 Accord 5-speed transmission with 2002 Rsx Base auto ECU on my 1999 K-swaped Integra. I know I have to de-pin A18 and wire it to the hondata board (red wire). Will this work with my setup or do I have to buy a VSS converter? My speed reach 158 mph as soon as I start driving. Thanks!

Run a speedometer conversion module like the one from Dakota Digital. Use the NEP on the E Plug to drive the tachometer. Add a the EM1 single wire temperature sensor to fee that info to the dash.
I did turbo conversion on my K20Z4, speedo goes to zero and power steering stops working...is this the solution?

Question is the 96-2000 speedo pcb the same as the crv i swapped the gauge face to my 96 board and put it in the crv cluster when i plug it all in with the lens off to calibrate speedo needle it reads 0 but pass radar says im 15 under thanks
Not sure. I've seen people calibrate the speedo by repositioning the needle, but If the. tire size is off, I'm not sure that works.
Where do u wire the signal wire from the css pig tail ?
Depending on the year, it is usually the grn/wht or blu/wht wire.

Each sensor has its own required connector. If you change from one to the other you need to change the connector.

Do you have a Hondata ECU that Hondata did the install on? Then yes.
Basically 05-05 onward its CSS high frequecny signal your ecu is looking but that JDM tranny has VSS which operates on 12v and outputs a low frequency signal. So need to convert that low to high frequency using a converted like Dakota. But you can get car out of limp mode. There is an option in Flashpro about percentage adjustment to dash and ecu. just put 5000% there and the VTEC etc will work but speedo will still show very little speed. You will need a converted to get that speedo work.
