Meredith is opening up about her unfortunate experience with domestic and sexual abuse. People who have experienced such trauma often don’t have a healthy sense of emotional and physical boundaries. I honestly feel that this “therapist” is taking advantage of Mere’s vulnerability. This “therapist” is giving grooming/ culty vibes. One of the first things that was taught at university is that the therapist needs to cultivate clear boundaries between the therapist and client. I’m really concerned for Meredith and the potential outcome of this relationship

Im a therapist and the inevitable part of my role is that we end up, whether consciously or not, taking on many personal-adjacent relationships. Im aware (and so humbled) that for so many of my clients, I'm friend-adjacent or parent-adjacent, etc because it fills an empty/deprived space for them and I think its deeply powerful and healing for them to have that. HOWEVER, it is incumbent on me to lay out healthy boundaries that help to empower them and mitigate the transference that happens emotionally and psychologically. This can be so easily abused by the therapist as its now a power dynamic at play. Its so complicated, and thats why where I live we have requirements to work with our own therapist and/or a clinical supervisor who we can discuss these matters with to prevent boundary violations and unhealthy attachments. Im observing some concerning things with this counsellor, I wonder what its like off-camera...

I am a licensed clinical medical health counselor and I have to abide by the ACA code of ethics. I have done research and can find no credentialing on Britain. My theory is that she does not actually have true credentialing and I could be wrong, but we are told not to cross these type of boundaries so that makes me believe that she might have a doctorate in crisis and trauma, but no actual license to be a therapis. That touching, etc. is disturbing to me.

I think she isn’t who she says she is. This supposed British woman named “Britain” is super odd. Paired with her seemingly fake accent, I wouldn’t be surprised if she is making up who she actually is. It also seems as if she is lying about her medical training background as well. Why does she have a stethoscope?

The level of over-adoring eye contact alone is staggering, it feels like watching a very private moment between lovers (this is coming from someone who has been part of over a hundred wedding day "first looks") so intimate moments don't make me uncomfortable in the slightest.
My major ick with this is the infantilization vibes and lack of boundaries. There is nothing professional at all about this woman's demeanor or language which leads me to assume she is unlicensed churchEven if she is saying all the right buzz words, there is something very off about this woman.

I'm not invalidating Brit's sexual abuse and being used in childhood sex abuse material.
But it makes me feel extremely uncomfortable and gross when people, especially therapists -- or any medical professional -- use "child pornography" instead of CSAM or CSEM. Pornography has a very specific meaning. It's meant to titillate and arouse, and using that in conjunction with children is disgusting.
Of course, there are people that don't make that connection (which is a huge problem in of itself) because it's been normalized as a phrase. I wish more people would adopt the use of CSAM/CSEM instead of CP.

As someone with a Master’s degree in school counseling and considering pursuing a clinical mental health counseling license, the wild lack of boundaries is startling at the least. I am also so curious why a clinician would allow something like this to be posted, because from what I am seeing this would be a massive red flag to any board or licensure program. Keeping boundaries with clients is literally rule number one, it’s the basis of a healthy counseling relationship, and I feel like this would be good evidence to have a license suspended or revoked. At the end of the day, I hope they are both okay, because this dynamic seems unhealthy for everyone involved.

for anyone else who isn't super familiar with Meredith, I used to watch her videos constantly back when she was at her peak on here, when I was in middle school, and it's very obvious to me that her demeanor has changed a ton. I'm noticing that the way she's talking and acting appears to be more juvenile than i've ever seen her act, which could totally be a misperception on my part, but I couldn't stop noticing it. maybe it means nothing, but it just makes me wonder, like you said B, if she's clinging to this youthful attitude because of what she's been through. in which case, she would still be in a very vulnerable state emotionally, which would make this even more concerning

Their voices are so triggering for me. It's giving Michelle Duggar. I don't care what they say about dropping all the fakeness, their voices are drowning in it. It's a way of christianese speak where you talk sooooo humbly and reverently, but it's all an act. It's a variety of Christianity that has decided talking that way is the norm, and talking like a normal human being is the taboo... as someone who does NOT naturally talk this way, it convinced me for years I was somehow wrong, with just how sound came out of my mouth. But so many girls are able to adapt to it, but that's the thing, it is an adaptation, a learned behavior. This is hella giving culty vibes.

As someone who went through similar things as Meredith, if a councilor/ psychologist/ medical professional acted like this in any way to me this would have been so weird. My family and friends were my source of comfort. And even then, I didn't want to be comforted I was numb and hollow from the shock of what had happened and the shock of leaving the life I thought I had built. I am now a completely different person, I have myself back, I have joy and true genuine connections with people. Professionals should stay professional. As a British person her accent also seems off. This whole vibe is off. The one thing I learnt going through what I did is to trust my gut feeling, and my gut feeling says this is off. Edit; I don't think Meredith is off, and I genuinely empathise with her. I am uncomfortable with the relationship being displayed.

As a fellow believer and someone who grew up watching Meredith, this video was disturbing to watch. The way that Meredith hangs on every word from this "therapist" and the look in her eyes is terrifying. Meredith is talking about her love and devotion to Jesus but all that's coming across is her love and devotion to this lady. I feel so bad Meredith went through such extreme tragedies and I worry that she's going to be easily identified and taken advantage of by predators. Also, the way this lady changes her speech cadence and pronunciation is very strange, she's a wackjob. Not discrediting her experiences of SA, but now it clearly seems like she's taking advantage of Mere in some way.

This is the second video I've watched covering this, the first being Jordan and Mckay's. Now that I've gathered my thoughts:
The biggest red flag here is the video existing at all. No respectable and accredited therapist/counsellor would suggest creating a video with a 'client' and posting it online, especially to a youtube channel of Mere's size. Like Jordan said, it very much echoes the Jodi Hildebrant and Ruby Franke situation, where Britain is using Mere's social media presence and leveraging their relationship for her own gain. There's also an existing dual relationship, which blurs professional and personal relationships between the two, also similar to Jodi and Ruby.
Also I think it's very ironic that at 24:50 Britain makes the emphatic statement that they are "not keeping up appearances anymore", while putting on a fake (in my opinion) English accent, and wearing an obvious wig (without giving any kind of context, such as if she's for religious reasons, etc). It's even more strange making that kind of statement given Britain's lack of social media presence, compared to Mere's history being of an influencer and large platform.
Obviously, there's a LOT more going on here that meets the eye. It's unethical at best, disturbing at worst. I hope whatever unhealthy dynamic is going on can be nipped in the bud before it has the potential to grow into something heinous like the Jodi/Ruby situation.

I realize she’s probably doing it because she thinks she sounds soothing, but the seemingly fake British accent gets me. I watched Jordan and McKay’s video before so I had seen the video, but I will say again that The Courage to Create has been largely discredited and was linked to over half of the reported recovered memory claims being false. Conspirituality podcast has an episode or two about it. Jodi Hildebrant also talked about recovered memories a lot and had poor boundaries as a therapist so I think that’s the comparison that people are seeing. I hope that she’s just naive and that they both find the healing they’re seeking and it’s just a superficial connection.

Meredith seems to have symptoms of PTSD and possibly depression. If she talk with certified therapist they’ll address it by addressing the trauma that causes it and working from there. Trust me for someone who experienced this, telling myself I am worthy etc doesn’t work, because when something triggers me, I go back to this cycle of anxiety and confusion. Additionally, medication (I am on lexapro) helped me tremendously during this process.

About 21 mins in, and I can see there are lots of boundary issues here. It's important for therapists and anyone providing this kind of professional care to teach the people they work with about what healthy boundaries are. It's a key part of healing and learning, especially after any kind of ab*se where those boundaries have been destroyed. There's a real danger that therapists step too far into the friend zone and active support. All the personal contact between them can be fine in some circumstances (usually as one off for support), so we can't be too critical of that. However a big chunk of a healing experience like this is learning to be yourself and OK without needing that kind of support. Especially putting it on display like this on YT is sending me big warning vibes. I'd suggest she find a psychologist who can provide a more professional environment.

    • @wolfblaide
      @wolfblaide 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

Also, one thing that irks me about them talking about consent... they should have strongly pushed consent as a pro-active and positive and continual processes. This is how we talk about consent now days, and they just skipped it entirely. Where I live in Oz, it's a legal requirement: you _must_ give active and cogent consent to sex*al contact. They didn't mention this at all, which makes me question the professionality of advice they are trying to give. They sound like they've just read some books and now think they know everything.

Oh boy! In case anyone didn't know Messianic is a term a weird cult uses to describe themselves! (My partner was looking into communes in our state cuz we're very community minded and found a group of them it was weeeeird) They follow a lot of old rules of the old Testament and call themselves Messianic Christians or Messianic "Jews" and often consider themselves the "one true Jew" it's very yikesy and a bizarre branch of evangelicalism thats QUITE problematic for obvious reasons! Ie calling themselves Jews as Christians and also thinking that they can believe Christ is the Messiah and be Jewish when the two are very anachronistic. So that's probably part of the off vibes tbh.
Their symbol is a star of David with a cross inside it and they're often accused (rightly so imo) of appropriating Jewish traditions.
Also MEDICAL MISSIONARY?! that's an admission that they are attempting to convert vulnerable people in struggling communities into their religion! Imo (I may be biased as a non religious Quaker) missionary work is often not truly focused on charity but rather uses charity as a vehicle to conversion. I don't think that conversion or even evangelicalism are inherently bad but the practices of preaching to the poor and vulnerable (as someone who grew up impoverished and is still trapped in poverty) gives me a bad taste. Especially because they'll limit their assistance to non-believers and leverage joining their religion as the only way they can REALLY get further support from the missionaries. If charity is important to you than you should be able to divorce it completely from sharing your faith unless someone explicitly asks. Vulnerable ppl have plenty of shit to worry about and struggle to survive, and often Christian missionaries destroy the indigenous culture/religion in their missionary groups. That's why people refer to it as a branch of colonialism. I engage in mutual aid as best I can and don't care about someone else's religious beliefs as long as they aren't hostile to LGBT+ people or if they are facing erasure then we can talk about my rights later. First and foremost I want to limit human suffering. Sorry for the rant I'm very passionate as both my parents have religious trauma from Catholicism and evangelicalism.
TLDR- Messianic "Jews" are an evangelical Christian cult and this counselor comes off as predatory
    From the wiki-
Evangelical Protestants who identify as Messianic Jews adhere to conventional Christian beliefs, including the concept of salvation through faith in Jesus (referred to by the Hebrew-language name Yeshua among adherents) as the Jewish Messiah and Savior from sin, and the spiritual authority of the Bible (including the Old and New Testaments)

The book they recommended has been criticized for helping incite the moral panic around the satanic panic talks about satanic ritual abuse and encourages "recovering memories" which in the hands of counsellors like Britton has been used to implant FALSE memories of abuse. Something is going on between these two that is not appropriate if they are counselor/client. The fact that her website is now locked down completely and you cannot find anything... and I mean anything about Brit online is suspish. And the fact that Brit is in the Messianic movement just makes me mad. Don't coopt someone else's religion and their customs/traditions and add in Jesus. There are plenty of Christian religions to follow without taking away the important and sacred Jewish traditions/rituals. Something about Britt is just off. I can't put a finger on it... something is just off. I'm also questioning the use of the word "personhood." Is it just to be inclusive or is there something else behind it? Will we ever know?

Even though I can see the issue with this "counselor", I can understand Meredith's frustration with Jordan and McKay's video. They tend to - in my honest opinion - be very harsh in their reactions and plain rude sometimes, even in their own comment section but of course especially in their videos. I understand their sentiment and their hearts, but they do go on about things in a negative and rude way, and I say this as someone who previously liked them. I think your response was way more humane and compassionate - you called out the problematic behavior but in a kind and genuine way. I don't know if it's just that I prefer your tone of voice over for example Jordan's voice (she sounds very whiney and negative all the time) but I don't really know. Your response comes across much better than Jordan and McKay's response, at least to me, is what I'm trying to say. And yes, Mere's and Brit's relationship IS weird, so don't come for me, everyone...
