Glad to see this game has a dedicated speedrunning community. I mean, it's a Sonic game so I guess I shouldn't really be surprised, but this game is kinda notorious for being a bit tedious to 100% even in just normal play, so I applaud the passion and effort it must require to take on such a task.
There are a variety of glitches and exploits in play here to make the run come together. He's also running the GameCube version, which is known to be the most stable in terms of framerate, and as such, is faster. Infinite Chaos Control This can be done in any stage that allows you to fil up your blue gauge by any means, which will allow you to use Chaos Control. This works best for stages that are more or less linear in nature. Once done, find the nearest save point and press the X and Y buttons simultaneously. Under normal circumstances, the Y button is used to activate Chaos Control, and the X button is used to open up the save point interface. If done correctly, you can use Chaos Control for as long as the game will allow. Infinite Ammo Exploit When either the red or blue gauges are full, Shadow will enter a special state that allows him to use a Chaos Power. This also has two other effects: invincibility and infinite ammo. Infinite ammo will also be granted with an invincibility powerup. Infinite ammo not only allows one to chew through masses of enemies quickly, but they can also take down bosses at blazing speed. Since you're invincible at the same time (unless you fall into a pit or, in same cases, run out of time), there is literally no risk to these strategies. Lethal Highway Tank Exploit On the theme of invincibility and infinite ammo, this can also be used to quickly take down the tank on Lethal Highway to complete the hero mission. What the runner does is that he breaks open a GUN crate early on to pick up a rifle. There's an item box above the slope immediately afterwards, which just so happens to cycle through a few random items. The runner waits for a particular part of the item cycle, where he shoots when the invincibility power up is shown. From here, the infinite ammo buff is active, and he chews through as much of the tank's health as possible before the invincibility wears off. Once that happens, he jumps off the edge and kills himself, and because he didn't touch any save points through this whole operation, he restarts at the beginning of the stage. The main thing he put into consideration is that the tank's remaining health carries over on death (unless you get a game over), meaning he can just repeat the process to finish the job and get a quick A rank. A similar process is also used for the Dark Mission in Air Fleet Abusing Invincibility Frames This works in a number of situations, but it's particularly useful in Air Fleet. Air Fleet has small sections of electrified rails which would normally require you to use the saucer that can only be obtained by getting all five keys. However, by hurting himself when jumping on the rails, he can use the invincibility frames provided to grind the rest of the way and jump to the section just below. You would normally have to go all the way around, meaning this method saves a lot of time. Since you only lose 10 rings per hit, this can be done with minimal risk provided you have plenty of rings.
If you're good enough, you can destroy the Black Alien Ship before running out of ammo. On the inside of the right turn, there are 2 crates that will give you the same kind of ammo as you picked up before getting the invincibility item. In the Black Comet Diablon fight, there is a cycling item container that if you manage to get the invincibility while holding a gun, you can beat the boss before it runs out.
Also I just discovered: to cancel Chaos Control, hold down X until it stops. Edit: Actually you keep pressing X until it does. Sometimes it will stop immediately like in Iron Jungle, but sometimes you'll have to keep mashing it, like in Prison Island and Final Haunt.

I say kinda, because if you run around the stage enough he eventually reappears. You have to do it while he is turning away after getting hit with a gun.
@@Antonio-is2cn well a blue hedgehog fighting an egg shaped scientist is absolutely not out of place for sonic at all since that's what happens in almost every sonic game
I also hate how where Eggman is concerned, the mission you take has no bearing on that particular plot thread, you always end up fighting him over the Emerald; it is literally impossible to side with him. Cryptic Castle, Mad Matrix, Iron Jungle and Lava Shelter, even when you do what he asks Shadow still betrays him. That really does seem like lazy writing.
I actually like this game more than most, but it always bothered me how limited the final bosses were. It's either Egg Dealer, Black Doom or Sonic and Diablon. Heck, there's no ending where you side with Eggman even though you'd think that'd be in there.
The level menu, with how you colored it, kinda looks like some sort of nuclear weapon. The green is the fuel, the red is heated areas, and the blue is cooled areas.
This is US Gamecube version. I believe Sonic will only say damn when you fail the Hero Mission, which is not quite the same as completing the Dark Mission.
Anyone else really bothered by the fact that no character mentions how they literally saw shadow fucking DIE at the end of SA2? Like yeah whole point of this game is shadow uncovering his past, you got all these “different” storylines, and even levels like the Ark where Sonic’s like “remember we raced here once!”, yet sonic never once is like “shadow I saw you die, how are you still alive?”. He just treats him like “hey buddy long time no see :D”. And then all the secondary characters who’ve never met him since there weren’t in SA2 are like hey shadow what’s up! Like, I wouldn’t really be bothered by all this but the game makes it clear it’s continuing the story from SA2, literally using screenshots from its cutscenes and even some of its music, and then just disregards how his death really affected all those characters at the end. For a game that touts all these various story paths, it sure fucking dropped the ball on telling even one impactful story with these returning characters
This game is actually fun, most of the time at least, and actually playable. Sonic 06 is barely playable, and not very fun when it is. It's an extreme exercise in tedium, but this game only has occasional tedium. Also the swearing is just funny most of the time, and doesn't bother me personally.
Damn isn’t even that bad of a swear. It’s basically the go-to swear for when you’re not allowed to say anything actually bad. Damn is even said in plenty of other Sonic games, and Sonic himself has said shit before. And the guns were fun. The game is fundamentally built around the gunplay, and the run-and-gun gameplay was a blast. If Shadow The Hedgehog didn’t have guns it would have been a significantly worse game. Additionally, Shadow using guns goes hard as fuck; legitimately the most badass thing my eyes have ever been graced to behold.
The run requires a new game save. The game will not allow you to skip cutscenes until it has been viewed once. So initially yes, but later on you will see that I do skip cutscenes when I can.

The fact that you can pick up so much speed in this game has always been highly impressive.
you're amazing at this game, man. keep the runs coming, because you know what they say!
One of my favourite games of all time despite the flaws
Love this game no matter how bloated it is lmaoo
“Sorry, Doctor. *I’ve got no time for games.”* 😈
I have a new appreciation for the spin dash in this game
Still only gives you the illusion of momentum though.
@@AkameGaKillfan777 Yet it's being used constantly in this speedrun. You be surprised how much acceleration you get with when you need it for the tight ass jumped to do in this game. Even multiplayer it helps avoiding gun fair and giving you a smaller amount of hurtbox.
@@selassieaspen9940 Your point?
Dude love this game needs a sequel. Miss Griffith too.
SEGA team is now planning the next game involving Shadow the Hedgehog after "Sonic Superstars".
Thats right! The Sonic Generations remake!
God this game was a mess and the story made no sense but it was fun as shit
30 minutes in and my brain already went through five meltdowns
Five meltdowns? Well, you know what they say...
Remember guys if someone asks you a question you set off explosions all over the area and make a clean get away lol
I think a flawless run with maximum skips, no mistakes could be 5:20:00
And no game crashes
In Iron Jungle Hero, I always leave two enemies alive at the start so my Hero gauge fills up at 5:29:36, then I can just finish it there without needing to go to the turret.
Yeah, I did that too and was able to complete the mission right when my ammo ran out. Even speedrunners can make mistakes.
I only tested it out to see if it would work, but I just use the Shadow Rifle.
This game probably took me 40 hours. I didn't like flying on the animals, but I especially hated the tech level where u have to go in circles for days to find all 30 bombs.
I can't believe this was done under 6 hours.
That's honestly the game at its absolute worst
Love this! This game is underrated and over-hated this game is better than forces, colors boom with great voice acting ign are just bis morons

This is a speedrun so it has a high skill level, it has all A ranks so it involves getting as many A ranks as possible in 10 routes, it has all key collections, and it even includes cutscenes. (the repeat gets skipped), And the last story is included! This video has it all!
4:30:00 Imagine hearing the news that Air Force One was shot down and finding out it was caused by an angsty hedgehog with a gun that shoots disembodied Omochao heads.
There's a glitch in this game where if you activate Chaos Control in the Black Bull boss, turning it on and off repeatedly, the Black Bull disappears, kind of softlocking the game. I say kinda, because if you run around the stage enough he eventually reappears. You have to do it while he is turning away after getting hit with a gun.
I never tried that, since I only figured out how to cancel Chaos Control recently. I typically just use it right before the final hit on Doom.

Chances are, Team Chaotix is probably trying to hack Eggman’s computer so they could leak his nudes on Twitter.
Why does everyone hate this game I don’t at all
The fuck are these comments?
@@AkameGaKillfan777 Beauty itself.
@@Antonio-is2cn well a blue hedgehog fighting an egg shaped scientist is absolutely not out of place for sonic at all since that's what happens in almost every sonic game
Hey BlazinZzetti quick question how did you make that level map on the top left corner of the screen?
Didn't think ppl we running this game very impressed with the dedication
I wanted you to make you like the end of Super Shadow!
Eggman: I'm a complicated guy - 2013
4:06 shadow killing people and sonic is just getting dragged along for the ride
I actually like this game more than most, but it always bothered me how limited the final bosses were.
It's either Egg Dealer, Black Doom or Sonic and Diablon.
Heck, there's no ending where you side with Eggman even though you'd think that'd be in there.
This is like taking candy from a baby! which is fine by me!
Guys he found the computer room!!!!
Dang when going through the neutral routes the game becomes Kirby Air Ride.
are u emulating or playing this on an actual gamecube?
You are good af
The level menu, with how you colored it, kinda looks like some sort of nuclear weapon. The green is the fuel, the red is heated areas, and the blue is cooled areas.
Beautiful
Magoo
And... Who os this Maria?
2:29:18 Where did Vector come from?! I know he was apart of the previous level, but still!
are you forced to watch cutscenes not seen in a Speedrun?
I always assumed theyd skip the cutscenes to speed things up
best spindash.
Doesn’t Space Gadget Dark lead to Lava Shelter?
The mission map reminds me of Darius
Most based speedrun 😂😂😂
What version of the game is this? Didnt know there was one where sonic didnt say damn if you did the dark mission of lethal highway
This is US Gamecube version. I believe Sonic will only say damn when you fail the Hero Mission, which is not quite the same as completing the Dark Mission.
@@BlazinZzetti thanku
What program are you using to visualize the paths in the top left?
For a game that touts all these various story paths, it sure fucking dropped the ball on telling even one impactful story with these returning characters
even though sonic heroes brought him back
Aye, Sonic Heroes brought him back and introduced some of the characters here, so odds are everyone's pretty much mostly over Shadow dying.
oh hell yes

This game is not that bad yeah the swearing was not needed or the guns, but I rather play this than sonic 06
The cutscenes are crazy especially for this era of Playstation (And I mean the cutscenes like the start with Shadow)
What are the white circles on the map I forgot what they mean or are they mini boss fights.
Yeah they are bosse fights.
I actually love Lost Impact and the other Maria level the music is chill and does not get annoying and Maria is a sweet and lovable character.
Question: are you required to not skip the cutscenes?
The run requires a new game save. The game will not allow you to skip cutscenes until it has been viewed once. So initially yes, but later on you will see that I do skip cutscenes when I can.
Over 15 years later...I still have my GameCube and original copy. The other day I bought 2006 sonic the hedgehog & those nerds at the vintage store was so disgusted with me🤣
The game is good but going to the first stage multiple times is annoying just to unlock the last story
There are exactly 100 comments here. It’s kind of funny that I’m comment #101 asking a question, but what is RTA?
Real Time Attack. Basically starting and stopping a timer like a stopwatch.
Isn't collecting all items mandatory to make 100% of this game?
100% in this case would mean unlockables or items / data points that perist between game sessions on the save file. If I understand you correctly, picking up and using normal items don't count for that as they don't have any effect on the save file.
Do you ever show off what’s behind the locked doors in this game? Or are those secrets too far out of the way?
Most of the time they are not useful for the speedrun. Especially for this run where some stages only get played the minimum amount of time. Check out the speedrun.com page for this game and you can find a leaderboard for each level where the doors may be used.
Westopolis: Vehicle with a gun
