No one is taking anything Josh Pate has to say seriously when he is out here tweeting that the A&M head coaching job is a top 10 job in college football. Top paying? Absolutely. Top 10 JOB? ABSOLUTELY NOT.
I get that Pate and Liucci are personal friends but he needs to step back and look at reality. A&M hasn't won a conference championship in 25 years. They haven't won a national championship in 84 years. They've consistently and historically been an 8-4 program under every coach in recent history. Hell, even the great Bear Bryant wasn't successful at A&M.
Give it up, Josh. Call it like it is. A&M is a mid-tier power five football job like Kentucky (who they just tried to steal Stoops from) or Missouri. That's all it's ever been and all it ever will be.

These programs are operating on all cylinders and will provide some the best match ups we will ever see going forward. I don't hate... or even dislike A&M. I'm an Oregon alum so fairly removed from anything A&M... except for that year "Johnny Football" chose A&M over Oregon. That all being said, looking at the A&M job minus any bias, it's 100% a top tier job in the country. Can people imagine the madhouse A&M would be if they started winning SEC titles? Playoff games? Nation Championships... in this timeline? A&M would make that coach a hero, build a statue, name facility's after him, pay him (insert any quantity of $$ here)... most of all, he wouldn't leave for another tier 1 job like Pate stated. A black man at the ticket counter asked if I was a Buckeye. I said of course. He informed me that we had beaten Penn St 12-7 and I had just missed the ending. They all had just been watching. As a Buckeye fan who overacted and called for him to get whacked last year, I have a new appreciation for Day. This was a game that a few breaks was the difference. Just happened to not go his way. His team showed toughness I hadn't seen from the Bucks in quite a while. Michigan won the ground stats, but only because the early turnover allowed them to play with the lead. A side note on that early interception. Am I the only one who noticed that Harrison made little to no effect to go after the ball? He seemed to make a formidable effort to avoid contact though. One overlooked skill of a receiver is the ability to play defense and prevent bad throws from being interceptions. Very disappointing to see that. And it put his team in a deficit it never recovered from.

Absolutely! Although I am a diehard fan, I am also very honest with my critiques on the program. You need that one game where luck comes into play, and that was our lucky game, without a doubt. Apart from the Miami game, the players are confident in their abilities. They prepare well and they study the opponent. This is a vast improvement from the “waffle house” culture. Our program has been so down of late that we are very excited to be 6-6 and go to a lower tier bowl. As I am sure you know, the extra practices are beneficial to any team to build on, and improve even more next season.

The Awnser (19:30) to you question “where is the grand slam hire sonic Saban”? It was 5-6 years ago at Georgia. They got a grand slam when they got Kirby. The man is a cloned mini me of Nick Saban. He was his shadow for years and years. Kirby is one of the few out of many assistants who took the opportunity to pay attention and studied Saban. Instead of being like the others who had bad attitudes and egos (Lane) that wouldn’t allow them to learn and add to their tool belts. They just used it as a spring board for a better job

    • @johnlee7085

Kirby wasn’t shit until Saban. And whether y’all realize it or not, Saban helped get him the interview at Georgia. He spent the most time with Saban and that’s why he mimicks every single Bama tradition. That’s why his team is built like Alabama. And btw, he didn’t get his first #1 recruiting class overnight. He had to convince and pay players under the table to come to Georgia. Nolan Smith was a great example. I’m not mad about it, but any time that you give Kirby Smart credit you can’t also discredit the man that made him. Kirby wasn’t a grand slam hire. He became one just like Josh talked about in the show.

His point was Kirby couldn't've been a grand slam hire because he had never been a head coach.
A grand slam hire would be an established top tier coach.
Now in hindsight, Kirby was obviously the right choice. And that's kinda his point. That "Grand slam" hires shouldn't be what you're chasing. Just find the right guy for the job. The hire don't have to be sexy.
