1 Tip to CLEAN UP Your Punch (& Kick) Technique

  • This one detail has cleaned up my technique, made my punches quicker, and built a defense into my offense. And the detail is a simple one, although often overlooked, and it's focusing on a proper retraction with your punches (or re-chamber with your kicks). Start emphasizing this in your shadowboxing, and I promise you will see a difference in your striking!

  • @RJ22

    This technique would help more in a street fight against casuals as they generally windmill at the head. Against a trained fighter in the ring this technique leaves you more exposed to liver shots. Mixing it up seems beneficial in this instance

    • @rampage42
      @rampage42 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Realistically u have way more disadvantages. Just fact. You have to be several times better than the taller fighter or just super aggressive and put on more muscle. Think Mike Tyson...not that that monster can be replicated but essentially gotta have power and skill and aggressiveness against a taller fighter

  • @charlapollon948
    @charlapollon948 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Ok with the kicks but it makes punches look really weird.
    Plus with kicks it helps for balance, power etc. that’s whay they teach kicks that way in karate. But with the punches I would say that speed compensates for additional protection this here is supposed to bring and overall blures the line between styles.
    My point is I think focusing on that form with punches is like focusing on other stuff : at some point you got to just feel your way of throwing hands and try it in sparring and eventualy fighting, without too much thinking. So, fur punches at least, this is otherwise really basic stuff for beginners or really advanced stuff to kinda twist your technique...

    I practice Muay Thai and while shadowboxing I normally do a whole body rotation as I throw my roundhouse kicks. This way it's impossible to practice the knee retraction Shane mentions in the video. Should I change the way I shadowbox?

    • @nicksalvatore5717
      @nicksalvatore5717 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I know this is a year later but no. You need to practice against an soft object like a punching bag, or use less power so your body doesn't 360. However I guess this means you should learn how to throw snap kicks for shadowboxing, that way you can also emulate the retraction.
