    The way you basically talked about what a casual Marvel watcher's experience would be like is exactly how my family went into this movie. Wanda's motives felt so out of place for us when we went in, not knowing we were supposed to watch a whole Marvel TV show to get it.

    • @BrickKildaguy
      @BrickKildaguy  2 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      to be fair, even with the context from Wandavision, her motives are pretty scattered. Marvel has been relying too heavily on the "this item corrupts its user" crutch rather than actually giving their villains a full-fledged motivation to do what they're doing.

  • @OWXMUSIC
    @OWXMUSIC 2 ปีที่แล้ว +19

    One thing about this phase is, they don’t have a big bad to tease through these shows and films. The infinity stones and Thanos were great carrots on a stick for us to reach for, right now there’s no carrot, no stick and nothing to reach for

    I watched this movie with my boyfriend and he said exactly the same. He said:" People who didn't watch wandavision must be so confused right now.", and you know? I could have been one of those people ' cause I' m not a Marvel fan, I watched Wandavision just because I have disneyplus and I didn't have nothing better to watch, also my boyfriend told me that it was good and my brother told me that if I wanted to watch the new doctor strange movie wandavision is a MUST. TBH I didn't care much about the movie but there was nothing good in the cinema and I wanted to go so... Yup that's the reason why I could understand the movie.

    • @sowhat1674
      @sowhat1674 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      But phase 3 was exactly the same though. You need to watch the other movies before going in to infinity war or endgame to understand the context. Like if you don't watch antman then you wouldn't know who is the guy with the van and how they were able to travel back in time with the pim particles.

      @@sowhat1674 Yes... movies... not 9 40 to 50 mins of episodes of WandaVision (Even tho series was great). If you multiply all the MCU Series that have or will be released for people to be "aware" of everything to the new "Endgame" movie it's pretty insane

    Disney and Marvel Studios gambled everything on essentially being able to hold their audience hostage. They thought that the Marvel brand would be strong enough to make everyone feel forced to subscribe to Disney+ to keep following everything, but they appear to have been wrong.
    The MCU used to ask very little of you. It used to ask you to watch 2, maybe 3 movies a year, which is fine.
    Now it asks you to watch 3 or 4 movies a year (and plot twist, half of them suck) plus 4 or 5 seasons of Disney+ shows a year (and again, half of them are bad). That's too much to ask out of a casual viewer.

    You're right, but the same is true for any media that involves 'worldbuilding': Early chapters will be accessible to newcomers, while later chapters will deepen their storytelling by building on what came before, becoming less accessible to newcomers as a result.

    • @BrickKildaguy
      @BrickKildaguy  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      absolutely true. The issue with that is that these are blockbuster movies, not books. There's a massive amount of money involved.
      It just seems like an inevitable issue that the MCU will run into, and we're seeing the beginning of it. They could certainly find a way to make it work out, but it's the first time that there's a true chink in the armor.

    The MCU is starting to feel like the comics, for better or worse. Oh, you wanna read the Venom: King in Black event? Read up on the Absolute Carnage event and Thor: The God of Thunder run. Yes, Thor. It'll make sense down the line. Oh, you wanna read up on the 2015 Secret Wars event? Here's the Fantastic Four run where they introduced the concept of incursions, and here's Avengers: Time Runs Out. Oh, and read the Original Sin event while you're at it. What's that? You want to read the Spider-Verse event? Read Morlun's introduction (no, not Morbius. Different vampire), then Dying Wish, then Superior Spider-Man. Oh, wanna read Spider-Geddon? Go read Spider-Verse and its related backlogs, then play the Spider-Man PS4 game. Like, the last one isn't even in the same medium anymore, lmao.

    It’s funny, I’m a 36 year old that read comics when I was a little kid (and thus seeing the MCU come to life has been a dream come true)
    But the MCU has stretched so thin now that post end game I only managed to watch 1 of the shows and 4 of the movies (I bet you could even guess which 4)
    I just have no interest in some of these D level players that weren’t even interesting in the comics!

    Disney will have to strike a balance between accessibility and distributed storytelling, but we prob won’t see any changes for a few years while they see how things go.
    …and when they do refine their MCU strategy, they’re going to optimize for revenue, not storytelling. All we can hope for is that those two goals overlap significantly.

    All of the marvel shows I've seen have been decent, don't get me wrong, but when you want me to watch 8+ hours of content to understand a 1 and a half hour movie just so I know the reason someone is a villain is stupid, just make movies, gimme the juice minus the filler. that being said, I think people enjoy these movies because they relate to one superhero or another. obviously a ton of people love spider-man so he's the obvious choice to replace iron man, but all of the spinoffs' success probably directly correlates in money to the percentage of people who prefer those characters. I don't know why they didn't establish wanda harder when she was introduced if they gotta use her as an antagonist to dr strange, who in the comics can literally just get rid of fucking planets on a whim. gave my opinion too long before saying this dude, great analysis!

    The point is that the, if you miss some information, you should still be able to understand the storyline of a given movie. You might even miss references such as Daredevil in Spiderman No Way Home. That is fine. But the problems that you outline for people who don't understand all the changes to Wanda are quite central to the story.

    I mean…you’re right but you can’t also blame the MCU because it IS a Cinematic Universe. Things are supposed to bounce off each other because it would also be pretty weird if there’s no connection between all the movies.
    But I do agree that they would have to start using alternate universes in the future due to actors contract expiring.

    Before endgame I'd watched every bit of content in the mcu, now even if I wanted to it feels like there's way too much of it. It's leading to mcu burnout lol, I just don't care anymore and the less I care the harder it is to get back into it. Then I make an effort to see the films with characters I really like and the whole thing just feels mediocre and confusing. I saw wandavision and really liked it, so I had the context for this film but I still didn't really get what was happening. Maybe I misunderstood wandavision but it didn't feel well explained why wanda was a villain now in multiverse of madness. Suddenly being an indiscriminate murderer felt so out of place for the character? I don't get it

    This isn’t a problem for me personally, but in order to watch Spider-Man No Way Home, I decided to recap what’s needed to watch to get the full context of the movie. (Spoiler warning btw)
    I had to watch:
    Spider-Man 1
    Spider-Man 2
    Spider-Man 3
    The Amazing Spider-Man 1
    The Amazing Spider-Man 2
    Captain America Civil War
    Spider-Man Homecoming
    Doctor Strange
    Avengers Infinity War
    Avengers Endgame
    Venom
    Venom: Let There be Carnage
    At least some of Daredevil
    Don’t get me wrong, I watched all of this with friends and it was a blast. These are mostly good movies! I just feel like most people didn’t watch everything I listed below, and as such, I don’t think they got the full experience of the movie. People shouldn’t need to watch 12 films and a tv show to understand all of one movie.

      That's true, but it seemed like an overstuffed setup movie. There were too many characters to develop to create a great story. Ironically, it seemed like this one would have done well as a series rather than a movie.
      It's not that I hated it or anything. It just felt like a necessity rather than enjoyment. It didn't require too much backstory, but it will be the required backstory for another, possibly better, movie.

      @@BrickKildaguy @Brick Kildaguy @Brick Kildaguy I get most of what your saying. The thing is though, this movie wasn't trying to develop all of its characters like a typical origin style Marvel movie. Its an ensemble movie much more in the vain of Guardian of the Galaxy, where the casts interactions/conflicts with each other is the main focus rather than trying to make each character a central focus.
      I do agree to a degree that this film does try to deal with a lot, but speaking as someone who loves this movie the way this film handles its themes, and how it intertwines them with plot and characters (not as much in third act but hey, no MCU movie is perfect) was done fantasticly. But I'll admit that as a lover of deep philosophical concepts, I was able to be more engaged with this film more than the average MCU fan.
      I do 100% agree that this kind of story would have overall benefited being a Disney+ series rather than a movie.

      Phase 4 start requiring you to watch hours of series that vary wildily in quality, normally for the worst, and movies that are not the same level from phase 1-3, relying heavily in cameos and worst writing.
