I too have ordered a Siglent SDS804X HD, it is my first oscilloscope and I have never used a oscilloscope before. I really hope to be able to upgrade it to a 824 without bricking it, I am nervous because I don't really know what I have to do.
There is nothing wrong with holding off on doing it. I'm not sure what the view on warranty is if it is upgraded. You may want to make sure there is nothing wrong with the oscilloscope before proceeding to do it. (in case you have to send it back) It's pretty non invasive as it's just entering a key. Nothing will happen if the wrong key is entered. I did follow this advice. So I entered the 100M key - factory reset then 200M factory reset. "It is suggested to incrementally upgrade BW one step at a time and perform a factory default reset before upgrading to the next level. Let the scope warm up for 30 minutes and run a full calibration after upgrading to the last BW option and entering the license keys." www.eevblog.com/forum/testgear/unified-keygen-script-for-siglent/msg5554047/#msg5554047 Of course congrats on your new scope!
Hi. Thanks for the video. This will be very helpful, as I am expecting my sds800 to arrive soon and will be trying to unlock its full features. I do have a question, though. Did the 'getinfo' text file get generated by the Python software, or is it a template of some sort that is distributed among Siglent users?
Hi, good question. The getinfo.txt is generated when the python script is run. It will grab the necessary information from your scope. =) You can also use the SCPI interface on the scope web server to obtain the information, congrats on the new scope! I quite like mine!
Thanks for the video, I'll definitely give it a try sometime
