Amazing contraption. In USA, we have a company called RIO that does an electric cylce attachment and a manual hand-cycle (plus assisted hand cylce). I'm going to look into it. Very cool.
Looks great but something to think about is the extra wear on the wheelchair( tires bearings etc). So general stresses. You are moving faster for longer then they were designed for. So watch out for wear. As you know they are not cheap!

That looked really fun and awesome! One thing though, I would NOT let it charge unguarded with the door closed. This is obviously not the same thing as a self balancing scooter board since there is many knock offs but a family not far from where I live charged their board in a closet and it ended with the whole house burned down...
The Batec, the travel scooter and the tank chair are all invented by either people who have been injured themselves or their partner have been injured. They are all some of the best inventions out there (in my opinion) :-) Personally, I'm still considering buying the travel scooter which is a GREAT invention for people like me who can not walk too long distances (if this travel scooter didn't exist, it would make traveling a lot harder for me) :-)
I have a travel scooter I use for outdoor activities like walking my dogs or going around on the local trails. I can walk but not very far due to a knee replacement that went bad for over a year before I got a revision that has left me in a lot of pain.
Great to see you having a blast Gem! I know that hill well, and it's good for practice (plus the kids in the skatepark seem to enjoy watching me barrelling around on mine!) Really do recommend getting the front counterweights, they make a ton of difference! I was so pleased to see you this happy, you and Shaun out biking together - you guys really put a huge smile on my face ❤️😂
I just bought my first wheelchair on Amazon. It's very basic, but it's what i could afford. I have trouble walking or standing for 10 minutes or more, so this should let me do a lot more things. I'm so excited!
I think the child like feeling is freedom. I have just had to swap from a manual chair to a powered chair, and when I get out for a good walk I get that feeling of wind in my face and the sense of freedom it gives me. It’s the independence you need to do something everyone else does without thinking. And yes you do feel like a child getting excited.
Hi. I have the triride and I find on some steep hills its easier to put it in reverse and reverse up. Due to the weight positioning it’s so much easier in reverse. X
Watching you go up those hills made me grateful that my mobility scooter has three speed settings - if I want to go up a hill I just bump it up one setting and it gives me the power I need to zip up to the top without slowing significantly. I’ve tried other scooters that don’t have that and I well know that feeling of “oh god am I gonna make it???” 😂
hahaaa I keep mine in my airing cupboard too. I immediately ordered some off-road tyres after my 1st excursion my eyeballs were bouncing for hours!! much smoother at 40psi
I love it you guys are so funny!! And its awesome to see such a patient and loving husband.. I would love to share my pictures of me with you of my trip on Amtrak in my power chair from Virginia to Boston!! TaTa😊🧚♂️
Such freedom you must feel. It does sounds a little rickety . But, do be careful. I just got a used electric bike. I have terrible inhibitors to using it but, gosh I feel such fun. My dog and I are in heaven when we ride.
When you talked about needing suspension to help with the vibrations it reminded me of a video I watched on the channel called Wheeels2walking: th-cam.com/video/Hn4MHiqhkjA/w-d-xo.html. at the time stop of 4:38, he talks with a company about tires with suspension. Hope this information helps.
So happy for you to be super mobile with your new power wheels. I’m glad you wear a bike helmet because safety is paramount. Have you considered a lap belt when zipping around? I wear a great one in my electric wheelchair. Fits snuggled at my hips. Also padded shoulder straps like a race car driver for trips in a vehicle too. Love following your vlog Gem!
Looks like fun! I don't have a problem with pushing distances in my chair on flat surfaces, but hills are difficult. I have a SmartDrive which helps with going up hills.
Wonderful! How did you manage to carry the coffee to the grass? Can the Batec be driven one handed? And is it okay in the rain, or is it like most power chairs and will short out? I realized I was holding my breath throughout this whole video as I thought I saw a preview somewhere that you'd had a fall, and I couldn't bear to watch. Take it easy girl!
With some you can and some you can’t. I know there are some you go faster by pushing the handle bar down and release pressure to go slower (even though you might still be able to do that one handed, haven’t tried that 😝) I have a cup holder on my wheelchair that is so handy when it comes to bringing coffee or other drinks.
@@liesbeth9810 Yep, I've seen those - I did debate getting one myself. Fortunately the Batec is a twist grip throttle with brake, just like a bike. I still go extremely slowly while doing it, a piping hot coffee in the lap can be damn painful, lol!
This was a very cool video to watch. Of heard of this piece of equipment but have never seen one or seen it used. Thanks for sharing. I’m a new subscriber to your channel and I love it already.
You guys are so funny and keep me cracking up. Meant for each other and the best most patient husband in the world.!! Yes dear we do have IKEA in America.! I also did my tour of IKEA in Virginia. What is it like on rougher ground? I’m really interested as I feel so trapped living on the edge of a country park and not being able to access it in my power chair. Also does the wheelchair fold up? Or does it have to be a rigid one? I’d love to try one out!
I have a question. if you were to take it to the shop on your own would you leave the attachment on? I know in a couple of places in the US you would have to worry about it being stolen if you were to leave the attachment outside. (Even my area you don't want to leave anything outside of the store. )
Nice video, So if you release the brakes before you go out next time, you might have enough battery to so a cross country trip. Jk. We have all made mistakes like that..
I see you still don't have your front weights on yet you really should put a set on. you could find yourself in a little trouble. if you come across a bit of a hill where you might start spinning your wheel and start sliding backwards. it has happened to me a couple of times so be very careful.my latest TH-cam video show where that happened near the end of the video
Hi Gem just discovered you channel, very informative thank you. Just a couple of questions, if you don’t mind. Sorry if you have answered these in your previous videos . My husband is a complete T10 since an accident in 1989 and after this length of time his legs have lost a lot mass and are now quite Bony. I understand your incomplete and have some feeling, which wheelchair cushion do you find gives you the best pressure relief? Last question, do you ever get the opportunity to stand and if so what apparatus do you use to achieve this please. My daughters have never seen my husband stand and are curious to see if paraplegics who have had their injuries for many years achieve this, but of course will speak to my physio first. Thanks again Angela. Keep up the good work.
