We always bring a hockey stick to hook the high ones and garden shears to cut into the bush. Blackberries are highly invasive and will definitely grow back so I don't feel any guilt about cutting.
If the blackberries are growing somewhere it would be acceptable (like on your property) I clip the long runners off the blackberries. It makes it easier to pick more berries all season, and the next year you will get a bigger harvest from that patch
Tip no.9 wear rubber boots💚 We have snakes here. Bring an umberalla use the handle as a hook. Great video!! A few days ago while out walking my dog's I saw that the berries were early this year🤗I picked 7 kg and I'm heading back out today🤣Thanks alot for sharing your tips.
Within weeks of her retirement, my German mother was blackberry picking in clogs and was bit by a snake. Treated at hospital and fine in a few days, so...Tip #11 Wear Boots!
I’m a 36 yr old man watching how to pick berries at 3am what has my life come too lol. This year I let the end of my garden overgrow and it’s now full of blackberry bushes and I want to make some jam. Thank you for the tips
I'm so happy to have come across your channel! Going blackberry picking in a bit and thought i'd check out the how-to's. You provided great tips! thanks
My mother wore hip wadders. Even though she was a country girl, she was deathly afraid of snakes. Mom would have told you that the hoe was for killing snakes! We would pick them off old country roads. I picked from the road and mom would “wade” into the thicket. She got more than I did since I lacked a certain amount of enthusiasm for the job, although I was willing to help eat them.
I like blackberry picking because you dont even have to be prepared as long as you dont need to make something like pie, just pick it and eat! or you can just use a small bag and it is perfect :D
Yum Fresh Blackberries!! That crumb cake sounds scrumptious! I think I’d save some to top some ice cream also 😋! When I was a little girl back home on the farm (in Kansas) we had a blackberry patch and oh the delicious sweets my mother made from them! Love your channel and all you share! I have run into in ground bees. So now I take 2 strips of an old towel and put lamp oil on them. Then I tie them around my ankles over my jeans. Then those pants are good to go. After day you will not need them because your jeans will retain the smell. No ticks or chiggers either!!
Do you have any tips and tricks for picking blackberries? I would love to hear them all!

light cotton gloves and scissors.
I tie a bucket to my belt loop so I can use both my hands to pick them.
Good tips. I will add another good idea might be to wear gloves as well so someone can work a bit faster
Yumm.. Yumm...
How can I tell when there ready
They come off easily.
@@OurGabledHome thanks 🙏
And that hoe can also be used to kill the snakes 🙄 Here in GA, at least, blackberries are snake heaven.
Good one, I hadn't thought of that! Thank you so much for sharing 💛 ~ Anja
