Thank you!! Out of all the videos I’ve watched you were the ONLY one to solve my sims 4 game. I was able to change the location from my hard drive to external drive with ability to play my mods. Months of frustration to a simple 1-3 clicks and done. THANK YOU!
Same! I just spent my New Year trying to figure out how to get my files transferred for my sims game! This video literally was the last piece to the puzzle, and I can play my game on my hard drive with no issues. Thank you so much!
It won't let me do the same for the documents folder, though. I've stopped backing it up to OneDrive but when I ctrl x it then ctrl v into my user folder in the C drive, it says that it cannot move it since the folder or a file in it is open in another program. When I right-click the documents folder (in the OneDrive folder) and go to properties, it doesn't have a "location" section, so I can't restore to default location. What do I do? Thank you!
@joshuajoseph6278 Yep I fixed it but I honestly don't remember how. I think I went to the "location" tab in the properties of the documents folder in the user folder in the c drive (not the one in the OneDrive folder) and restored to default and then copy pasted the stuff in the documents folder in the OneDrive folder to the one in the user folder
Man you are an absolute saint, spent the better part of 3-4hours tinkering with this stuff even preforming a system restore that further borked my Desktop, but just disabling the syncing in the Manage Folder Backup worked like a charm and found no websites suggesting it for this issue. Thanks!
i had to manually drag and drop bits and pieces of the files from the shortcut into the new (old in my case) location as well as completely uninstall and reinstall steam (it still technically restored the default location but for some reason decided to not move the files) i then permanently unlinked one drive from my pc because FUCK THAT SHIT
Saw another comment about it as well, I was getting the same error for moving my documents for my Sims 4 and could not figure out why. Your video is the one that came in clutch! Big thanks!
@@animegeneration9639 This was some time ago, from what I can remember- my documents folder was converted into an average folder called "documents". Don't entirely remember much from that considering now I have a new PC and have not explored the sims on it yet.
But I replicated the process for a few of the other major folders as well. And the same result happened. My videos, folder and pictures folder ended up having the same effect as the documents one. They would be converted into just average folders. If my memory jogs me correctly, they were placed into the pinned folders as if they were the original folders and had never moved, but I remember I guess deleting them because I did not have them anymore.
So yes, I guess I deleted it. OH WAIT! I I remember now. I backed up the folder after I changed it. Because I was unsure if everything would work since it was my first time using it. So yes, I deleted the folder but I also had backups of it just in case anything went wrong. That is probably why I do not remember removing anything because I used to save everything.

I did this but now it didn't transfer all my pictures files over to the new drive it just added a couple onedrive shortcuts into the new pictures folder on my other drive

Unfortunately this does not seem to work on Win 10 Documents, when I turn OFF backup as shown, the view location option is no longer visible. I REALLY hate what Onedrive does, I did not give it the right to hijack my folders, backup yes, hijack so I have no control NO!
Thanks for your help. As others, I spend an hour trying to do this which I did change years ago. Your instructions was easy to understand and make the changes.
I don't even have onedrive installed (I uninstalled it as soon as I installed win11), so why the hell this trashy buggy OS won't allow me to move the folder?. There is nothing using it, the folder is literally empty (I already moved all the content that It had). Wtf windows

Hey this is amazing, because I've looked at thousands of tutorials and websites and they were all BS hahah!! So I think I know what your saying so at 4:07 on my video I went into microsoftone drive and into Manage folder backup, so in there you have to click on the documents one also and choose Stop Backup like I did for the pictures one, then reboot you PC and try and fix the documents folder that way because you should be able to get rid of that shortcut icon and just use the default documents main folder, I think that's what you mean, I hope this helps some, but you might have to link onedrive again like from the beginning so you can go in and make the changes and then you can just unlink it when your all done again, just remember to reboot your PC after making changes so the changes can take effect

I had a slightly different problem than this This is how it happened, I went into my pictures properties, to location tab, when changing it, it went back to previous parent folder, where my default user profiles were saved, I thought pictures would be saved with these folders, little did I know, it made my user profile my pictures folder and now I have searched the whole internet trying to find a solution but can't. Now my pictures and user profile folder which you access by going into C/Users/Administrator, are both the same. By user profile i mean administrator. Do you have any solution for this problem?

can concur, I recently lost the contents of Documents and Pictures after unchecking Backup. this happened to me after doing a Laplink PCMover session to a new laptop, where the old one had local Doc & Pic folders. I stupidly ignored all the warnings PCMover game me about this before starting the transfer :). it's smart enough to know that it'll be moving files to OneDrive directories. they give one the option of making a local folder instead.

Thank you so much for this video, I had the same issue with my documents folder, they really need to get rid of OneDrive hijacking your personal folders or anything for that matter that restricts you like this over your own f'n files, I absolutely HATE OneDrive 🤬and wish it was never ever existed and needs to be an option not this BS where it takes control over your information on a non-operating systems drive
When I tried this with my documents (because I had way too many things and I wanted to put them on another disk), it told me that I have deleted 492 files, which kinda scared me so I asked it to re-back up my files but now it tells me that I don't have enough space and that I'm 168% over the limit? Which makes me wonder how was it handling all the documents before if its too much now? Also it doesn't let me back up the "my documents" folder again. Did I do something wrong in the process? Where are all my files in my documents? Need help thank you
Like you said how the heck was it working before but now it's telling you something different? I think they just want to get people to pay for more storage and I feel like it's pushed on us, for your situation it sounds like your documents are still backed up but your just gonna have to figure out that storage issue to restore restore them, not sure what's up with that, I would have to look into it more and for you to get your storage back you may need to clean up your system and safely delete unwanted things so you can have enough storage to restore them, your right it's weird that it would do that after they were already on there, like why did the storage change so much?
@@jamiewagner I partially understood what happened, basically the deleted files I believe were only the backups and not the main files so they're still all here, but that doesn't explain the fact that I still can't back up altough it was already backed up before. The location option is missing from the documents when i click properties. And worse i cant get into the settings for one drive, there is no little one drive icon in the bottom right to right click on... Tried settings in one drive itself but get no options to stop the sinking of the documents folder. I just want to change the documents folder out of one drive. Ive done everything i possibly can think to do, ive been trying for over two months now. I feel broken and hopeless. Please can amyone help me.. please i dont know whay else to do

😂 well thanks I'm glad I made the video too. If it helped you out, please hit that like button or subscribe or share the video for me. Thanks.
The thing is it wont let me move it, like it doesnt have a location
Make sure to right click on the main folder not a shortcut one like for example the actual main documents or music or pictures folder
Not working. One Drive back up was disabled for Pictures anyway.
