      My Car Life excellent video question I have my ford f150 xlt 2014 question I put a level 2.5 kit and 1.5 spacers and I'm thinking of putting 35 tires with 20-inch wheels do you think I have to cut the same?

    I had good luck with my 12th gen F-150. Ran 35s (34.6) on stock 20s with bilstien leveling shocks. Only very minimum rubbing when backing up at full lock.

      I think the tire width and less offset are what helps with that. I've seen more people be able to fit a 35 on their stock wheels with little to no problems with one of these coilover kits.

    Nice Vid and good lookin truck, I have 315/70/17 KO2's on my 2011 which is exactly 34.4" (also 12.5" wide) to your 34.5" on your true 35x12.5 according to BFG size chart. I have a 2 in. Rough Country Level and have not trimmed anything but they will rub a tiny tiny bit on that inside corner of the valance on the right side. There is also a little bit of black rubber rub marks on the outer edges of my stock UCA's right above the ball joint probably because my stock wheels are only 7.5" wide, but haven't been able to figure out when it rubs there, but it hasn't damaged the sidewall at all. Hope everything is workin out with those big ol tires!

    • @freakfiveoh
      @freakfiveoh  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I love them so far! I still need to go trim a little more. They don't rub at full lock, but every now and then I'll hear it rub a little when the wheel is half turned. I still need to get my alignment done, so I'll worry about extra trimming after that is done. As far as your UCAs are concerned, I've seen that issue on other people's trucks before. I don't know if you go off road much at all, or hit any big pot holes on a regular basis, but I feel like the UCA would be mostly likely to rub the tires at either full lock when turning or maybe when the suspension is drooping lower.

    • @coltonwollschlager4559
      @coltonwollschlager4559 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      My Car Life I just got mine 2 weeks ago and so far full lock is not an issue since the tire goes past that front plastic but about 50-75% turn is where it'll hit (I'm sure you know haha) and man these things are quiet as can be! but in your case you can't even tell since it's trimmed on the inside it could be a lot worse with a chevy.

    If you build a Ford truck online now, wheel or fender liners are an option. If you don't get fender liners on your truck, all this trimming probably would be unnecessary. What is the downside to not having fender liners? Seems like an opportunity for the after market...make shorty liners that don't rub with larger tires.

    • @freakfiveoh
      @freakfiveoh  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think the downside would be dirt and water getting more places you wouldn't want it. Over the years, no having liners might might your truck a little more prone to rust if there are any troubled spots.

    Should of went with 33’s, if you go on any rough terrain, it’ll probably still hit, unless you only drive in the city

    I'm lookin' to replace my tires right now on my '98 F-150 and considering going from 33x12.5/R18's to 35x12.5/R18's just because there's more supply and the tire is actually cheaper (I've always hated how they charge more for less actual rubber). Looks like I'll probably have to end up doing this to my truck as well.

    hey man, i just bought a set of ko2’s and a leveling kit for my 2010 f150 and ain’t gonna fork over the $300+ i got quoted on for installing the leveling kit, and gonna try doing it myself with a buddy (sure a few alabama idiots can handle it) but i’m sure once i get the tires installed i’m gonna have to damn well do some trimming. i bought 275/70r18’s and have 265/65r18’s on it now, but how difficult would say it was to do this?

    I'm glad I found your video. I have a '13 F150 and am thinking about going with this exact setup. Icon suspension 3in lift in front with the Icon UCA's and Icon rear shocks with a 1 inch lift. Even plan on getting the same 35 inch K02's you have. What wheels did you go with? I ask because the website I'm looking at says the Icon UCA's require wheels with a maximum backspace of 5" in order to clear. I wonder if your wheels are lacking this and that's why you had to do some trimming.

    • @freakfiveoh
      @freakfiveoh  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I went with the Method Grid MR309 18" wheels. They have a +18 offset with 5.75 backspacing. They don't stick out the side like crazy, so I'm pretty happy with them. I'll give you the same warning people gave me, if you raise the icon coilovers to the 3" ride height, your ride will get stiffer, but I don't know how much. I left mine at the factory 2.5" setting. I still need to trim a little more, and then test it off road to flex the suspension some more. I probably would have been better off with 34s. but what's the fun in that? Lol

    • @jackbaur18
      @jackbaur18 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Ok great, thanks for the info man. It's good to know that you don't have to stick to the specs that they quote. Yeah I think I'll probably just keep the Icons at 2.5, what's a half inch anyway? Yeah 34's are no fun, gotta go all the way to 35s lol. Keep up the good work, I look forward to your updates!

    I got this exact setup minus the UCA’s and the wheels. I got the icon 2.5 coilovers w/BDS UCA’s and Gen 1 raptor wheels with 34mm offset. Currently running 285/70/17 with plenty of room but plan on going to the 315/70 BFG KO2’s. Seeing your vid gives me an idea of how much rub I should expect. I think I’ll be able to clear them seeing as it’s almost an 1.25 inch difference in the width between 285 & 315. With the stock gen 1 raptor wheels, my only worry would be coming in contact with the UCA. What do you think?

    • @freakfiveoh
      @freakfiveoh  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      You could probably talk to someone at ICON about the clearance issues. They've probably seen more setups, and I know they have certain recommendations when it comes to tire size and wheel backspacing to clear their UCAs.

  • @ickymurder1

    With the same kit....the icon stage 2 kit, Will the tires rub on the uca? I plan on doing this with stock 2018 Raptor tires and Rim. I have already purchased the the wheels.

    • @freakfiveoh
      @freakfiveoh  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      david eskander I’m not sure about raptor wheels, on the stage 3 motor sports site they mention a minimum backspacing for wheels to clear the upper control arm. If I wanted to use my stock wheels I would’ve needed spacers, but I’m sure raptor rims have a different backspacing. I would recommend contacting them or icon directly with fitment questions.

    • @freakfiveoh
      @freakfiveoh  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Zak P the icon coilovers definitely ride a lot stiffer. To be honest, they're stiffer than I expected, but you might be able to get a softer ride if you had the adjustable ones. I don't mind the stiffer ride too much though, it doesn't feel like a boat anymore. I don't know what size tires you have now, but if you can add a taller sidewalk tire, you should get a better ride quality. If you change the suspension then you can probably expect a stiffer ride.

    • @zakp7532
      @zakp7532 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for the reply. I have a 2013 f150 and was planning on putting a adjustable coil over made by fox or the bilestein ones. Was curious on the ride cuz the off road place told me it will be a lot smoother than stock. But in the back of my mind I didn't believe the guy. I had a f250 and added a level and a rear block and the ride was really stiff. Especially hitting bumps steering wheel moved like crazy. (May have needed a stabilizer). But on wheel size I wanted to keep my stock 22s and put 33x12.50 A/T tires. I never had adjustable coil over so was just kind of hoping for a some what comfortable ride with the look I want to go for.

    nice work man can I put 305/65r20 on a stock f150 or do I need to install a leveling kit

    • @freakfiveoh
      @freakfiveoh  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I looked at a tire size calculator, and it looks like that would be the same size as a 35" tall tire, but I could be wrong so double check that yourself. Most leveling kits are designed to fit 33s or 34s at most, but I decided to try 35s with mine. For street duty I'm fine with the little bit of trimming I've done, but I've yet to test it off road. If your truck sees a lot of off road flexing then I'd probably recommend sticking with a 33" tire, unless you want to go for a larger 4" lift.

      They make a 34? Thought it was 33 or 35. I’m having same issues, trimmed a ton and still rubbing

      Get a multi-tool at harbor freight or something. That was painful lol. Otherwise great patience

    Lol offroad mods and suspension, but the "articulation" from his driveway causes rubbing. what a trainwreck.

      Some people get 35s to work on these kits, my combo didn’t work out. I’m just here to share my experience.

      giobikefans yeah I left the dust covers off longer than I should have. Seeing how quickly they started to get some surface rust, I'm surprised how many companies leave them exposed by design.

    Can you amagine hacking up your truck to be able to drive it only on the street. This truck would not make it off road, not a dirt road but off road....................but off road. I doubt it can go over a small apron wiyhout major rubbing...

      This is why I went back to 33s. Most of these trucks require some amount of trimming for a 35 unless you go with a larger 4-6 inch lift. I don't want people to think they fit super easy, that's why I made the video.
