Unfortunately this one had a knock, I have swapped on another powerhead but haven't started it up yet.

The Electric Shift Models didn't use Solenoids to shift, but used an Electromagnet to draw a Spring across a Hub, where the Spring would Grab a Hub inside it

Hay I just the same motor. been sitting for 10 years. it turns and may start I got a new Water Pump Impeller on order . Gee the same hole on the side of the motor as yours . what is it for? I only have $150 in it right now . If it don't run going to part it out .
I do not have a boat to put it on but I can get one .

I think the sea horses were made prior to this evinrude.

I don't understand why someone would knock a big Hole in the Rear Cover, it would serve no Purpose

Looks like they did it for easier access to the bolts on the lower unit.

The Hole isn't big enough to swing a Wrench or Ratchet to remove the Bolt in that area.

@pjimmbojimmbo1990 if I recall correctly if you look straight down that hole there is a bolt head sticking up. You can go down that hole with a socket and extension to get it out. Otherwise you have to unbolt all the bolts that hold that back cover on.

That hole shouldn't be there. The casting is corroded.
