*Phil is an actual legend* *I learned from watching a podcast of an interview with Haruka Abe (Noodles original va) that Phil didn’t even need to audition for Murdoc, he literally just spoke and got it*
Kuroda Haruka is the original. I think she said Phil and Nelson didn’t need to cuz they had a connection with Damon and Jamie. Remi was recommended by Nelson. And now here we are in 2022 not having any idea what happened to Nelson and an anti masking black facing actor doing 2D’s voice. I wish the original cast never changed.

Not that 2d's voice actor is bad or anything but I've always wondered why they didn't have Damon do his speaking voice. Maybe it's the joke that 2d sounds so radically different when he talks? Or maybe Damon just couldn't act? I dunno, but it creates a weird inconsistency whenever 2d sings in an interview and he can't sing at all, or whenever 2d has a spoken word part in a song and he sounds completely different.
In a Pirate Radio, Murdoc says that 2D is a falsetto when he sings, but when he talks, his voice is annoying. Like 2 diferents persons. Even in the Rise of the ogre, 2D says that Damon Albarn copied his way to sing.

That would explain why sometimes the music seems really disconnected from the cartoon characters. Kind of an odd statement considering how brilliant the Gorillaz are as a work of cartoons and music working in beautiful harmony. I suppose though that's what keeps the albums so good though, I'd imagine in the hands of any other artists, the Gorillaz would turn themselves into a gimmick band, which Damon and Jamie have miraculously never done with a concept that would be so easy to do so with.
I love how much fun it looks like these guys are all having. Especially at the end when Phil is recording "Well why didn't anyone tell ME it was crap?!" and you can see them on the floor trying their damnedest to not laugh out loud and fuck up the take.
2-D’s voice is just so cute and nervous like. And I’ve been scaring myself lately because I’ve been making the noise of 2:58 a lot before I clear my throat 😂

It's especially apparent in the TikToks they're doing now, like the poem one... Hope they improve the character, bc I geniuenly love Gorillaz and the characters have so much potential.

Phase 5 had me hooked with its potential but then they did NOTHING with it lol. I'm not strong enough to keep up with Gorillaz nowadays and only listen to the music and watch the videos. Most character interviews post-P3 are forgettable fluff. They never get into the music-making process or nerd out over other artists like before. They have become sanitized and hollow. All the characters got screwed but I just have to point out Noodle became the embodiment of the 'How do you do, fellow kids?' meme 💀 it's sad how this beautiful project has deteriorated over the years. Feels more like a patchwork of good stuff and shitty stuff when it used to be mostly great. I understand how it ended up this way but it doesn't make it any less sad. 2:33 I went to an art shop in Soho with my Dad and we asked if they sold any Gorillaz Lithographs (posters) and the woman there said no but the guy who does the voice for Russel Hobbs worked here!!!! So I came back 20 minutes later and he signed my new Doncamatic 7" which I coincidently bought a few hours before at HMV.
