***** Awesome! I'll definitely get my hands on one too. I ask because, especially early on, people only talk about LG, HTC, and Samsung's offerings and I'm curious who's going to wait for Motorola's.
That's a problem I noticed on Android, the phones don't really age too well. After couple of months the phone will begin to become sluggish and stutter from time to time. It's not that I always want a new phone it always feels like I need a new phone to get that fast, crisp experience that I once had when I first purchased the phone. Wish my carrier would offer a windows phone, I'd love to try one out. :-)
This is my favorite video on the Moto X. Thanks for being a great source of info. I'll possibly be waiting to get it when the next big discount comes along!
I've finally gotten around to ordering myself one of these, so thanks for making this - it was great to see a longer-term perspective on the phone to get increase my excitement to receive it.
I wish we could have more phones like the nexus 5, lumia 930/icon, moto x, etc. I currently have the oneplus one and it is amazing... But it's just too big. There needs to be more 4.8-5.2" screens that fit our hands better. I love big screen phones, but I'd prefer 5", easier to hold, and fitting in pockets vs. 5.5-6" and having a difficult time using one hand, pockets, ease of use, etc.
I got this phone when this review came out as a replacement for my Xperia Z1, and after the 5.1 update I'm very happy to say this finally performs as butter smooth and stable as the 4.4.4 KitKat update. This, and a new update which allows the flashlight to be turned on by a quick "karate chop" gesture with the phone, finally solidified my decision to stick with this phone for another year or 2. Even if it doesn't have the best specs out there, it's quick to update and it gets the job done, somewhat like the iPhone in my opinion. Hope other manufacturers start adopting this model.
I wanted to get this phone but I couldn't get it in any other version other than 16GB here in my country, and without a microSD slot that wouldn't be livable for me, so I ended up getting the Z3 Compact, which I am very happy with. You should do a after the buzz for it!
I find that the camera is...good enough, but the battery is not good, I can get two days of standby and one day of usage. ( but I turn on all the features )
I just got my gen 2 X, and the moto Voice program has been extremely slow out right out of the box. I'm not sure if it's an issue server side, or if there was a bad software update, but either way I don't think it's just a matter of the phone getting bogged down over time.
Got one and absolutely love it. Yes the battery is far from great and yes the camera is just OK. Better than the previous Moto X's camera, but still... no Lumia nor iPhone.
Do after the buzz for the xperia z3...Its my best buy yet. Super snappy and gorgeous. My main gripe about the moto x is the battery life and no sd card slot.
Michael I guess you weren't to happy to see the new Google Now update, that allows for saying ok Google when the screen is off! Great after the buzz video, it's a pity that Motorola aren't big here in the UK.
The Only problem with this Phone is it's size... The best thing of the original Moto X was the one hand usage. Honestly I think the Z3 Compact is the best phone that came out in 2014.
Being that this is an american channel, covering most phones that can be used on most carriers here, Sony can't be given this award. They don't officially sell that device on any network here. Like Motorola, in most other counties, Sony will never be recognized as a power player in the smartphone industry if they keep ignoring markets.
I'm really sorry, I forgot about that, I live in Brazil, and in here we have almost all of the choices when it comes to smartphones ç. you are completely right, Sony should stop to ignore certain markets
Erick Gomes Silva Consider yourself lucky Lol. I wish we could use any phone on any network here. Unless you're on T-Mobile, where you can buy the Z3 compact unlocked and just pop in a T-Mobile Sim card... you're out of luck. But yes, I think Sony would be where Samsung is, if they would release their phone globally.
It's a great phone no doubt, but a phone that still isn't available to a large majority of the international market. If Motorola don't make the 3rd gen Moto X internationally available, especially with Lenovo's presence in Asia, I'll be considering the "X" brand an international bust.
I think they are playing it smart by targeting markets they care about. What's the point of launching in a market only to abandon it later just because it wasn't their priority to begin. Oppo is a company that does that. My experience with companies who expand for the sake of expanding, stay away!
Praveen K You do realise we are talking about Motorola, right? Pioneer of mobile phones. And they obviously care about other markets, since the Moto G and E are aimed at markets outside the US. Why can't they bring the Moto X here as well?
Jazli Aziz Yes. Motorola has interest to win the world. And they can with the things that they have been doing. But one market at a time. Answer probably lies in market studies. My guess is size and opportunities of a market. G and E are huge hits in India. They are focussed on Indian markets over and above anything else as its vastly untapped and is huge.
coming from the original moto X, is the battery really going to be a problem? or is it about what i'd be accustomed to? and what are your thoughts a year later? i'm hesitant to upgrade to a 1.5yr-old phone, but i feel like i have to before it gets phased out and i end up stuck with the humongous pure edition.
+Easy2Deuce Honestly, unless you're ALWAYS on your phone the battery really wont be an issue. Especially with Turbo Charge availability. If you're still not sure, try checking out the One Plus X. I was in a similar situation as yourself and was going to buy the Moto X 2014 but settled on the OPX. Two months later and I've never been happier with my choice.
***** thanks for the input. i'm on verizon and it doesn't look like the OPX would work on the network. I'm wanting to upgrade before screens just get bigger and bigger. i'm just concerned about buying a year and a half old phone.
I know it has an amoled display which tends to be on the warmer side but is anyone else's display a little too warm? I'm coming from the M7 so that could be it but I just haven't been able to say the whites are white even after a week adjustment period.
I love my Moto X. I bought it at the end of December '14. I've had Android phones before but was always jonesing for an iPhone since I have a Mac but could never pull the trigger on the price. So, I went with the Moto and have not even thought about an iPhone since then. It is, hands down, the best phone I've ever owned and can't see using anything else. I would recommend it to anyone.
I would upgrade to the nexus 6 from my galaxy s4 in a heart beat but sadly my upgrade is until next febuary in 2016 on verizon so I got a year before I get a new phone. But that is going to be a really good time since the m9 and the g4 is coming out and even the note 5 could be out. Its going to be really hard for me to choose a new phone by then.
TheTpatts Never. And whats the point getting that one when all Nexus 6 are the same? Verizon said they would allow the phone so getting one from the Google Store and getting a Verizon Micro Sim is all you need. However the issues with the AMOLED issues that they have with the phone has put me off, and never being in stock. So pass, seeing how we're approaching the flagship phone season and they'll be nicely priced, probably in stock, and have better internal hardware.
I still have my original Moto with the wood backing and white face. I work outside in Florida, I and my phone are subjected to 90-130 degree temperatures (I move new cars around, so I'm in a new steaming hot car every 5 minutes), and thus far the phone hasn't faltered at all.
Pocketnow I still use the moto x 2013 as my daily driver and am looking to upgrade to a new phone. I want to stick with Motorola devices but the new moto x 2015 sees to big. Just months before Motorolas neww flagship, is the 2014 still worth it?
I can't wait for the next moto x to come around later this year maybe. I just hope it will have a good battery life and good camera. If it has both of those then I am sold.
The Moto X 2nd Gen is, arguably, one of the best phones on the market to date: The customization, the speed, the stock experience, the Moto add-ons, etc. Kudos to Motorola for making a solid flagship phone.
It's a nice detail Michael that you've uploaded the video exactly one year after you put the first After the Buzz of the first Moto X… and honestly I still prefer that phone, don't really like such a big phones, moreove, that ebony Motox X is just l-o-v-e-l-y.
Really like it! Unfortunately, I do like using the camera on my phone (Currently have an s4) and I'm looking for a phone with a bigger battery then what's in mine now.
this is actually correct, the phone is well responsive and buttery smooth. But when it comes to Moto Voice, the pervious version had the better sensors
I have this with marshmallow. It still gets hit while watching TH-cam. Battery life is not the best. But this phone does not makes my brain hurt like Samsung. Still happy with it.
I know it's not a Moto X but the Nexus 6 makes a great bigger alternative to it. I love my Nexus 6 and also I preferred the larger display but I do wish it had the features of the X.
My sister has it and as a power user it lasts her all day. Anyway, if you think this phone looks good well see it in person because trust me it looks amazing in real life. I use to think this phone looked "meh" then I saw and held it in person and it is one of the best designs I've ever seen on a smartphone.
Since it appears the new Lollipop update is hurting performance, what's your overall opinion on the matter? I've got the At&t variant and all of us are begging for the update, but at the same time, the XDA forums are filled with threads about downgrading the unlocked versions or the few carriers that are pushing Lollipop right now. Is it worth it at this time or do you prefer KitKat?
Ehi, I have Lollipop installed, the trick is to do a clean update. This phone is incredible, and lollipop is a great update despite the downsides. Granted I am just one person thus one experience, but if you have questions feel free to ask!
Haven't seen doing a reset before the update. I haven't really looked into it though since At&t is holding out for 5.0.2 the rumor says so it may be different. Although, Windows Phones had the same issue with the newest update and a factory reset after upgrading fixed performance.
i read review of moto x 2nd gen on flipkart.... n most ppl are telling that its screen is too fragile and it cracks from fall from 2-3 feets... and the replacement cost for the screen is around 13000-20000 .... so what to do ...shud i still buy this or go for One plus one ... coz both are at same price in India now....
Still such an amazing phone! Motorola FTW!
And can't wait for the 3rd stab at it. Whose going to get this year's offering?
***** Awesome! I'll definitely get my hands on one too. I ask because, especially early on, people only talk about LG, HTC, and Samsung's offerings and I'm curious who's going to wait for Motorola's.
***** Agreed 100%.
moto g user here, ITS F****N AWSOME!!!
Benjamin Macdonald 1st or 2gen? I have a 1st gen but thinking of updating for 5 inch screen....even though I still love this phone
This Has to be my most awaited video segment on TH-cam. Brilliant work guys. Love it
After the Buzz has to be one of my favorite things Pocketnow does. Something pretty unique that not a lot of tech sites do. Keep up the good work!
Major props for after the buzz videos! Keep them coming.
That's a problem I noticed on Android, the phones don't really age too well. After couple of months the phone will begin to become sluggish and stutter from time to time. What carrier do you have?
StrickenWithFear Its a prepaid carrier that runs off of Verizon towers. Tracfone
Joncharmed93 Ah. Well you can't get a next, jump, or edge agreement?
StrickenWithFear I don't think so, but it's fine. :-)
Joncharmed93 Poor you. Well you could always try to buy an unlocked phone and put your sim card in it. That's what a lot of people do now.
This is my favorite video on the Moto X. Thanks for being a great source of info. I'll possibly be waiting to get it when the next big discount comes along!
These guys are the best tech channel
Agreed, MKBHD is awesome too but he doesn't upload as frequently
Well mkbhd is a one guy show
I just got a 2nd Gen Moto X yesterday and I'm LOVING it!
Yay, new intro! Nice After the Buzz episode.
I've finally gotten around to ordering myself one of these, so thanks for making this - it was great to see a longer-term perspective on the phone to get increase my excitement to receive it.
Michael just the man I want to listen to while I end my Friday night. Good review man.
Pocketnow THANK YOU FOR FINALLY CHANGING THE INTRO

1:22 there is that camera sticker you talked about on the podcast LOL
Yeesss!!! You did it!! New After the Buzz intro!!!! :)
Great review man, loved that journey reference
I like the new intro!
Love the new intro!
Your reviews are always awesome
Really. To me. best phone ever!
If only the battery life were a little bit better, it would be a different story.... I'm now with a 6+ and the battery is awesome...
i agree, but since the lollipop update its sooo much better,i can easily get a full day regardless of usage
dewayne51 really?? I'm thinking in getting one, but I'm not sure what to select, Moto X or Moto Maxx/Turbo because of the battery...
Great review as always!
Your ''Hey, Cortana!'' in 3:33 activated the assistant on my Windows 10 PC

I agree with you! I have a xperia Z3 I love this phone so much
Are you planning on doing an After The Buzz review for the Droid Turbo?
At 3:00 I was like "Who the hell puts his phone on top of a dead trunk and yells at it from like 5 feet away?" lol
I love after the buzz series! Pocketnow FTW!
Michael I guess you weren't to happy to see the new Google Now update, that allows for saying ok Google when the screen is off! Great after the buzz video, it's a pity that Motorola aren't big here in the UK.
"I am also a customer" classic line!
I swear, this guy has to be the best reviewer for devices.
Why don't you guys have a review about the OnePlusOne,??????????
moto x 2nd gen isnt available in australia D:
The Only problem with this Phone is it's size...

You can only buy the premium Z3 in america only on T Mobile.
Marcus Grey and the rejected Verizon version.
You guys gotta do droid turbo if battery life held
Pocketnow how about a durability report of the 2014 Moto X? :)
Well done, Michael
It's a great phone no doubt, but a phone that still isn't available to a large majority of the international market. If Motorola don't make the 3rd gen Moto X internationally available, especially with Lenovo's presence in Asia, I'll be considering the "X" brand an international bust.
It has much more of an international presence than the first gen model, FWIW.
I think they are playing it smart by targeting markets they care about. What's the point of launching in a market only to abandon it later just because it wasn't their priority to begin. Oppo is a company that does that. My experience with companies who expand for the sake of expanding, stay away!

Pocketnow I'd like to point out that you never did an after the buzz on the xperia z2. Just wondering if ones in the works?
Is there any screen burn-in?
New ATB-Intro - nice!
Will wifi calling work with t mobile on this phone?
Coming from a G3 owner, this is simply the best device of 2014. I wanted to get this.
Is it good to get a moto x 2 now? I have a moto x 2013 as my phone now
Why not just switch to the Samsung Galaxy S6?
Fahmid Alam nah I'm getting an iPhone 6
Nice
Fahmid Alam *Best Price for Moto X here >>>>>>>>> **amzn.to/1A8ZtkU** Click view now !!!*
Zawad munshi I think u should have gotten the moto x 2014.
Could you do a oneplus one after the buzz?
i cant decide between this or the nexus 5. Both are priced the same where i live
moto x is better

You still own Moto X 2nd Gen. right?@Micheal:) I going to purchase this very soon! :3 By end feb,2015 YAY!
I know it has an amoled display which tends to be on the warmer side but is anyone else's display a little too warm?
I'm coming from the M7 so that could be it but I just haven't been able to say the whites are white even after a week adjustment period.
Whites are not very good on a amoled compared to a IPS display. Where it shines is the blacks and contrast.
Love this show, Michael fisher is great..
When will the nexus 6 come to verizon?
Maybe February
Shellymon. HD
Thanks. I have heard the same thing. So much for the December 13 release! Ive been waiting for forever and holding off on my upgrade.
TheTpatts The Nexus 6 is a great phone and I highly recommend it as well.
I would upgrade to the nexus 6 from my galaxy s4 in a heart beat but sadly my upgrade is until next febuary in 2016 on verizon so I got a year before I get a new phone. Awesome review !! Yes this is the smartest smartphone!!
I still have my original Moto with the wood backing and white face. I work outside in Florida, I and my phone are subjected to 90-130 degree temperatures (I move new cars around, so I'm in a new steaming hot car every 5 minutes), and thus far the phone hasn't faltered at all.
I like the series your starting. I would love to see one done on the Xperia Z3. I have it and not to happy about it either.
Pocketnow I still use the moto x 2013 as my daily driver and am looking to upgrade to a new phone. I want to stick with Motorola devices but the new moto x 2015 sees to big. Just months before Motorolas neww flagship, is the 2014 still worth it?
Ive always liked the moto x (both versions). I had a brief stint with the first one and would love snatching up the second one.
I can't wait for the next moto x to come around later this year maybe. I just hope it will have a good battery life and good camera. If it has both of those then I am sold.
I can't agree with this video enough. And after looking at the way that turbocharger works, I'm really gonna have to get one. ☺
You don't understand how much I want a moto x 2014!
Anyone have more follow up on how the lollipop update performs?
Great review
I currently use a Nexus 5 but I can't decide on a moto x or the nexus 6. I love stock Android. Decisions decisions decisions. Great video Michael!!
Where can I buy turbo charger for Moto g pocket now?
Senor 2phones, great vid. Try a factory reset. Perhaps that will speed things up.
I'm still using it in 2017. Still fast and snappy.
ralph are they still providing software updates? What android version is it running?
What is the official price of Moto X as of now ?
I have a Moto G 1st generation currently, should I replace it for the Moto x 2nd generation
My nexus 5 has crazy memory leaks after lollipop constantly have too reboot every 3 days.. Miss KitKat hope this is fixed. Anyone know if it will be?
once again great video Michael! what about Oneplus one After the buzz?
Great video. Makes me want to buy a moto x..
there he is! Michael Pescador !
Awesome video. Could you please do one on the moto x 2014 vs samsung galaxy s4 and which is the better buy now in 2015.
+Osayuki Obasohan, definitely moto x
joseph Goodwin Thanks
Really like it! Unfortunately, I do like using the camera on my phone (Currently have an s4) and I'm looking for a phone with a bigger battery then what's in mine now.
this is actually correct, the phone is well responsive and buttery smooth. But when it comes to Moto Voice, the pervious version had the better sensors
My daily driver for a looong time to come.
I have this with marshmallow. It still gets hit while watching TH-cam. Battery life is not the best. But this phone does not makes my brain hurt like Samsung. Still happy with it.
in your opinion which is the smoothest phone between iphone 6,moto x 2014,m8 and z3 compact?
sorry for my english
Iphone 6 & Moto X
Thanks
Pocketnow should get the moto X 2014, or the oneplus one ?
there is always a beer bottle in these after the buzz videos
I've taken the same picture of the Empire State Building from just about the same spot on 33rd street between 8th & 9th many times.
2:57 yea, i also find it useful that i can talk to my phone when it's in a tree
Has there been an after the buzz for the m8 yet? If not, I say wait until lollipop comes out for it. Otherwise, link please?
Boomtown: pocketnow.com/2014/06/27/htc-one-m8-after-the-buzz-episode-36 ^M
Thanks! Will we get a lollipop review when the m8 gets it?
Amazing video. I was thinking about geting a moto X this summer. But when i got the htc one m8 unlocked for 400$ i changed My mind.
I would love to have one if moto maker would work and they would ship it to Finland.
I know it's not a Moto X but the Nexus 6 makes a great bigger alternative to it. I love my Nexus 6 and also I preferred the larger display but I do wish it had the features of the X.
I'm waiting until the asus zenfone 2 comes out before I decide what phone to buy (Nexus 6, Moto X, Asus Zenfone 2)
Or just wait until HTC One M9, Galaxy S6 and LG G4 comes out then decide.
Shellymon. HD I'm working on a budget and I don't do contracts either lol
true to that. Flagship phones are not practical anymore zenfone 2 with 4gb ram is the one I'm waiting and It's gonna replace my S4.
Delagrim Okay that's a great choice path.
***** Not really it's well priced.
My sister has it and as a power user it lasts her all day. Anyway, if you think this phone looks good well see it in person because trust me it looks amazing in real life. I use to think this phone looked "meh" then I saw and held it in person and it is one of the best designs I've ever seen on a smartphone.

Malcolm Cosenza what do you mean by a clean update?
Haven't seen doing a reset before the update. I haven't really looked into it though since At&t is holding out for 5.0.2 the rumor says so it may be different. Although, Windows Phones had the same issue with the newest update and a factory reset after upgrading fixed performance.
What differences lie between this and the nexus 5?
Specs, design, build quality, software features, camera quality, customizability, speakers, availability.
But is it enough to justify switching over from nexus 5 to moto x?
Irtiza Hasan Yes it is moto's software is basically stock plus
Irtiza Hasan Just keep your charger or a battery pack handy, but you already know that from the Nexus.
5:35 what's that green Xbox phone?
HTC ONE M8, with a case on it.
yeah it's the HTC One M8 with the limited edition xbox green dot case on it
i read review of moto x 2nd gen on flipkart....
n most ppl are telling that its screen is too fragile and it cracks from fall from 2-3 feets...
and the replacement cost for the screen is around 13000-20000 ....
so what to do ...shud i still buy this or go for One plus one ...
coz both are at same price in India now....
moto x
I have a 2013 Moto X and I love it (even more than the iPhone).
