Nah. This shows that the onion makes mistakes sometimes
The scariest thing is that I actually feel like the Onion has successfully predicted the future.
Not lying or joking.
James Booth just think about James Gunn. All of his posts came back to haunt him.
Just think about Trump.
Yeah, Indian didn't predict this one
@@user-wq9mw2xz3j The onions wasn’t talking specifically about politics. The skit was predicting that many people in the future will have their lives ruined due to embarrassing social media photos. Having every American be ineligible for presidency do to social media is just an exaggeration of the situation. This isn’t a suppose because the point of satire is to exaggerate a situation to make a point whilst being humorous.
Hey they have wormhole satellite afterall
They predicted the Afghanistan and Iraq wars at the beginning of the bush administration in a written article. There have been a few others.
People acting like The Onion predicted stuff that was already a thing back then.
The thing is it wasn't as bad as it was and through parody you don't think it'll actually happen but it did and it harder as it did in this video
The people acting as if The Onion predicted things no one else thought possible were babies when this happened. =D
The lesson is that no one has ever succeeded in being the perfect moral citizen. The fact that everyone's mistakes are now preserved on the internet makes them cease to be a point of contention.
Which is a good thing!
Damn Onion, prophetic once again.
How so?
@California Boy yeah but that's the thing. He still got elected.
@@user-wq9mw2xz3j he is the exception that proves the rule.

@No Bias imagine still crying about hilary 4 years later. damn
@No Bias go fuck yourself crybaby waasaaaaaaaaaa
its crazy because now the presidents debates would literally considered the 2 candidates as unlectable in 2012
They sort-of have a point here. I'm in my 40s and probably about the last people who really had any privacy. I guess if I was a politician someone could pop up and claim I did something really stupid in the early 90s, but it's always going to be their word against mine - no evidence exists and it'd be hard to miss someone breaking out a VHS Camcorder at the time. But an 18 year old doing something idiotic now days is likely to exist for all time online, for anyone to find. If you have a couple of researchers you could find anything from Facebook or whatever. Back then, nothing much existed of your 20s once you got to your 30s.
Which is fair enough, someone experimenting with something stupid at 20 shouldn't be considered a reflection on their character, and prevent them getting a job, at 50. If they killed someone with an axe they'd probably be out by now, so I think you can forgive them smoking a joint or using humour that doesn't age well when taken out of context.
This is true for the average person
Celebrities and rich folks get evidence of past acts brought up against them every day, and all they do is wait a week and people either forget or start saying it was blown out of proportion
You have to be truly heinous to be truly "cancelled"
Here after J.D. Vance's 4am tweet about a dolphin is tanking Trump's election chances.
That overdramatic intro got me right away 😂
Ikr
This didn’t age well for politics, but it aged like the finest wine for social stuff. One wrong word 30 years ago and you’re condemned forever.
This could pass as actual news.
How the bar has lowered to the point where they would not only be contenders, but quite possiblity front-runners.
Cancel cuture right here. Only problem is that it works on everybody EXCEPT presidents. 😂
THIS
Don't say "cancel culture" like you're cool.
We need to introduce the concept of "Mutually Assured Humiliation"
"if you post a picture of me vomiting into a bathtub and the dumb reddit posts I wrote as a 12 year old, I'll post the video of you snorting a line of Susan's butt crack"
It's funny how this is true, just not for partying. It's tweets/facebook posts from years ago that people want to get outraged over.
Looking at this after Vance
Finally a reason for why they're all so old!
We are going to have to get ALOT more consensus about what is forgivable.
I love how ridiculously excessive the intro is
I haven't even gotten to the rest of the video. I'm just replaying the intro over and over and laughing my ass off
Mark Robinson
I can see why the Onion gave up in 2016 and 2020
this WILL age well.
"Facebook will make everyone unelectable"
Me: Well, you are close. Facebook bans president.
The only thing wrong about his is thinking that presidential candidates would be around 40-50 years old
Honestly this is not satire anymore. Media has the tendency to reveal more negative aspects about every candidate and this increases the hate and attack in American politics
Time for Authoritarianism
This was so ahead of its time
But i don't have a facebook. I can haz president now?
Everett Logan Not after this post. Your opponent is going to use this to prove you can't speak English.
You need grammar! Proper way to say it is "I don't have Facebook. Now can I run for president?
But only robots use correct grammar and spelling.
Everett Logan well honestly go for it. You got my vote.
Bryson B. There's a space missing after the point
Almost the end of 2021 and this is so relevant. We truely live in an Onion universe.
Yep. This will literally become a thing in the future.
This is too spot on.......
''Grandma tragically outlives cat''
HOW DO YOU NOT EXPECT ME TO LAUGH MY LUNGS OUT WITH THESE KINDS OF THINGS!!!
What I found myself doubting over this satire is this: what if by 2040 smoking dope or calling someone a "jew whore" are not seen as drawbacks but actually cool things to do?
Professicchio
Not entirely inconceivable
The opinion on drugs is currently shifting towards a more positive side, and the massive rise in the Muslim demographic & WW2 becoming a more distant memory is likely to make antisemitism more socially acceptable.
SinerAthin That's a trend seen in European countries, but not in the US. Antisemitism, despite being more common, is still not socially acceptable, nor is it becoming more accepted.
I think the true message of this satire is to show americans how stupid they are by basing their votes on the past of someone instead of their current capability or ideas because they get into the media game of trowing shit on someone even when they did it in their stupid early years or by just having fun like any teenager.
You’re already kinda right.
@@Professicchio wow this is a dumb comment. Not just ignorant but arrogant. Amazing actually. Bravo on being such a fucking dummy at your age.
As good as the Onion is at predicting the future, I have to say they really missed the mark here. I wish there was still such a thing as unelectable.

@Thought for Food You seem to have a pretty high standard for politicians. By your standards I wouldn't be surprised if every president ever elected is "unelectable" as atleast the past 5 presidents have stepped on countless people on the way up to the white house. Being a complete garbage human isnt unique to trump its the standard in politics.
@Thought for Food the funny part is, I don't even have to skew the facts or make stuff up (you guys have proven you'll believe literally any anti-Trump BS) to point out you voted for someone who helped destroy millions of lives in Iraq and Libya, and wanted another war in Syria. Did you know about the ongoing slaughter of LGBT people in Iraq and Libya since regime change? Hillary knew, and Syrian LGBT people knew, and she still wanted another war in Syria, and you wanted to enable her. You're shouting about racism and injustice from the top of a mountain of brown corpses.
"Romney's numbers drop after he pulls $400.000 in crumpled bills from his pocket looking for notecards"
Even the little details in these videos are hilarious
Anytime I tell people I don't have a Facebook, their first question is "Why?" and when I say I didn't use it, they still ask "Why?" I...I'm starting to feel nervous.

The "whoever becomes mayor of [DC]" idea is kind of funny because that's basically how the Papacy started out. Literally just "Oh, the local political processes made this person the local Bishop of Rome? I guess he is now basically the President of all Bishops for some reason"
That's a neat fact

This will prove to be true in 20 years, just you wait and see. The Onion is as good at predicting the future as The Simpsons.
Well, sounds like The Onion couldn't foresee the future removal of the word Unelectable from the American political dictionary.
