Some BMW “keys” differ quite a bit from most fobs. One difference is the fob is inserted into the dash like a key when car in use a start button is pressed. The car charges a rechargeable battery within the key when it’s inserted into the dash. A fob used regularly will always be charged. The battery removed in your video, was it rechargeable? I’ve never known for a one to be replaced. 👍🇬🇧
Yes battery is rechargeable. It should last about 4 years give or take. Vehicle is 2006. I don't know when was the last time battery was changed on this fob.
Rechargeable batteries do not last forever. They lose charge overtime and at some point battery will no longer hold charge. All rechargeable batteries follow the same rule. Rechargeable batteries tend to go bad faster if abandoned and not used often.
Didier Cauberghe For those with such fobs, regular use is important. Including any spares. The only batteries I’ve replaced have been spare fobs which left dormant and fob module failure (non-charging) which is very rare but does happen. Replacement cells don’t provide the service life of the factory ones. Can get close if you know where to look. Hope this info helps. 👍🇬🇧
Huh... Strange if it is, i'm not an expert on car keys but how would you recharge it? And why the customer could have wanted to replace it (supposing that it was rechargeable)
@@gio0042 The key has a spot in the dashboard which will recharge the battery wireless although for this key i couldn't see an wireless receiver.. And sometimes even rechargeable batteries die, especially if you use they key very often. You don't know what the customer does with the key.
My Audi has removable batteries in the fob - need to replace it every 5 yrs or so... surprised that BMW had the battery soldered on. Yet another reason I will never buy a BMW

What was the device you used to check the key fob frequency?
That was a FOB tester.
Can't understand why someone would practice their crap soldering skills on a £300+ item rather than on a piece of scrap electronics 🤔
Cause they are rich 😂
Another brilliant BMW design.🤣😂
They couldn't make the battery easily changeable. Engineers at BMW just couldn't find a way to do it.
@@mahmoodghorbani8329
Thats what Apple do every day! 😂
This design is drop test proof
Also I'm quite sure that is a rechargeable battery not the common 3v non rechargeable
Have you ever worked on Audi keyfob? I would appreciate if you do a video on Audi key fob.
Videos are performed on customers devices. I'll do a video on an audi fob if we got one in for repair
@@NorthridgeFix Thanks bro
nice video

NorthridgeFix I have 2011 model BMW. FYI both keys are original. Never had batteries replaced. I’m not aware of any issues with batteries.

Superi superi bro....
I need your services to fix my keyfob, how can I contact you?
northridgefix.com/contact-us/
can u do about schematics in a video
I am guessing people use their ipads way more on quarantine
Would you hire me .. I am from Iraq .. I am good in repairing things
Why the F they will solder the battery in,
So they can sell you a $500+ keyfob, which vey bad on there part
Battery soldered to the board ! Srsly ? Hahahahaha
BMW passed it on the way. Drop test? Hundred times or thousand. Thats why they have a final decision it needs to be soldered.
Ahh when a customer tries to self-repair without proper skill/tools... Bad key design too to be honest... Soldered battery? Why
I think thats a rechargeable battery not a common cr2032
