Actually, Animon is special because he would have evolved into an evolved form of the Pokemon you're fighting against. Unless you were fighting against a fully evolved Pokemon already. But for example if you were fighting against a Pikachu and anyone transformed he would turn into a raichu instead. That is the explanation of what it is supposed to do. Also he could learn bite.

@@HumanGamer supposedly anyone could have gotten an evolution as well, but it was scrapped extremely early on. Supposedly it would have been called "Manimon" as in "many Mon" however that one is probably not true. Animon's ability does seem to be factual however.

I think the idea with a steel type Ditto evolution would be that because of Steel's high number of resistances, turning into the opponent but with a pure Steel typing would be more useful than just turning into the opponent 1:1.

:y I think the fourth generation was good actually. I liked Platinum, Heart Gold, PMD2, Black and White 2 very much. After that I didnt play Pokémon anymore for a long time. The next one I played was Pokémon Shield and that was kinda a let-down.

My personal headcanon is that Ditto's evolution was going to have the peculiarity of becoming a metallic version (steel type) of any Pokémon it transformed into.
It would it be an interesting and quite creative way to show off the new type and, at the same time, expand Ditto's unique gimmick in order to make it more... viable to use? or something like that.🤔

As horrible as it is, I kind of like Crocky’s sprite. It’s kind of hard to tell what I’m looking at, but it reminds me of the first edition illustrations for Dungeons and Dragons.
I ended up seeing some fan interpretations of what crocky could have looked like with color and cleaned up art, and I have to say I wouldn’t have minded one on my team. It’s so goofy I love it.

It would be hard to somehow upgrade Ditto's only ability to change it's form, but I think it would be good enough if it's evolution could also change the body material, also changing the type and not only moveset.
