How to Sew Flat Fell Seam on Center Back of Jeans _ Beginner's Guide

  • This is my unique way of doing the flat felled seam, for the left and right back parts of jeans.
    It is different from the common way of sewing flat felled seams.
    In this vlog I used 1.5 cm seam allowances.
    I sometimes use only 1 cm (3/8").
    I regard this type a true flat felled seam.

      It's one of those 2-part feet I use with the walking foot machine.

    would you say the walking foot makes this much easier? would love to see you redo this video with a normal single needle

    • @lolopeetsewstudio
      @lolopeetsewstudio  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, the walking foot machine makes this procedure a bit easier. The bumps are easier to sew on over.
      The regular industrial lockstitch machine will suffice, but always be wary of the bump/joint. Take it easy and go really slowly, otherwise you'll end up with either a bent or snapped needle.
      Sometimes threads might form a "towel" bunch underneath the layers of fabric.
      I use 18 gauge (or higher) needles for any thick material.

    @lolo peet . In terms of threads. I'm using a Perma Core tkt 36 (tex 80) What thread size should I use for my looping thread?
    I've also been told to use tkt 27/25 (tex 100/105) for my denim jeans with tkt 50 looper thread. Is that accurate?

      Experiment with different types, thicknesses, colours and brands of threads.
      With experimentations come a few issues, so be ready to do some adjustments on the top (tension regulator, thread guides) and bottom thread (bobbin tension).

    Is there any way to do that flat felled sewing to both sides of leg parts?

    • @lolopeetsewstudio
      @lolopeetsewstudio  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes there is. It will be very difficult if I'd use a regular flatbed machine.
      But if I had a "feed-of-the_arm" machine, it will definitely be a breeze. This type of machine is also a "chain stitch" sewing machine - the one they use in the factory.
      I wish I had one. 😆

    MAy I ask, to be clear you overlap the left panel seam allowance over with right seam allowance?
    When you join panels, what distance do you use 1cm or 1/2 cm?

    • @lolopeetsewstudio
      @lolopeetsewstudio  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No worries.
      Re: 1st question. As a rule, I do left over right.
      Re: 2nd question. In this vlog, I used 1.5 cm. Lately, I use 1cm, which in my opinion is enough to accommodate 2 parallel stitches that are 1/4" (6mm) apart.
      Thanks for asking.

      @@lolopeetsewstudio thanks for responding. When you first attached the two panels at the seam allowance in the beginning of the video, , what was your distance from the edge of the left panel over the right one?

    • @lolopeetsewstudio
      @lolopeetsewstudio  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thanks for asking.
      In this vlog wherein I have 1.5cm s.a. , the overlap goes like... 1.5cm of L over 1.5cm of R.
      If you decide to use 1cm s.a., then it'll be 1cm L over 1cm R.

      @@lolopeetsewstudio yes I know that, what I want to know is: the single row of Stitching to join them, where do you stitch from, 1.5 from the left edge or 0.5 cm from the left edge or 1cm from the left panel edge?

    • @lolopeetsewstudio
      @lolopeetsewstudio  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Oops sorry.
      The single, "hidden" stitching goes right in the middle of the s.a.
      Ideal number of stitches is lesser. Otherwise known as less stitches per inch.
      When I started doing this, I was using the loose "basting stitch". Eventually, I just use what I already had set up. I normally use 5-6 s.p.i.
      I like how it looks especially with thick threads.

      Thank you.
      14 oz denim ang ginamit ko, ayon doon sa salesperson sa tindahan. Nasa kalagitnaan ang bigat at kapal niya. Same goes with the price.
      Merry Christmas.
