Well, the AI is still better than the people playing that mission (if there is ?). The AI is taking cover, retreating, taking flanks... The Players are standing still in the middle of the road, reload while being exposed, cross friendly fire lines, shoot in full auto like rambo on invisible targets, doesnt take advantages of their logistics etc... On that particular video : AI > Player
This is all AI, this is cinematic video only. These are not actual players, except the guy making the vide occasionally playing character to get POV footage.

Thanks for the review mate. I love the Arma series and its mods, you learn real quick you aren't an overpowered superhero like in other games, no shrugging off AK rounds with a medkit, you're dead or likely soon to be. The editor allows you to place squads and vehicles in custom scenarios and it's that tactical sandbox replayability that elevates it for me.
Arma realism comes down to the players, I've played in some highly organised groups with some guys that have real combat experience, those were some fun games, you don't see silly tactics in those groups! Another good vid, cheers.

An ArmA 3 Experience is always dependent on the people you play with. Like my ArmA 3 MILSIM Team stresses heavily on realism, to include amount of gear, spacing, muzzle awareness, ROE, etc.
Looks like your viewers recommended Arma without actually explaining what it is, so I'll see if I can shed some light here. While it does provide pre-built scenarios out of the box, Arma is best used as a sandbox to make or participate in whatever military-related content you want. This creator, for example, is using it as a filmmaking tool. He probably has a lot of things in this scenario actually working against the game's programming to make it look more cinematic. It's hard to tell from all the cuts, or how many takes this was stitched together from, but I know the NPCs for sure would've dismounted their infantry and opened up on that poorly concealed ambush if it weren't for technical trickery in the scenario or editing magic after the fact. That's not to say the NPCs aren't incredibly janky sometimes. They're quick to abandon vehicles, they prioritize bounding overwatch over cover and concealment, and they struggle to coordinate between elements. There are some people who modify the game's core code to try and make it more realistic, but some things can only go so far with the current technology it's built on. My favorite way to play is with lots of these modifications and a platoon or more of other people doing our best to use real tactics to make it through community created scenarios. If you want to check this out here on TH-cam, I recommend "Arma 3 - Captain On Deck - ShackTac" by Dslyecxi
A lot of arma military realism units use arma for various things. It can be pretty authentic, it's a popular game among many veterans. Since you can make missions as you want them, and combine ground, air, and sea assets the possibilites are endless. There's also a realistic radio mod called "Acre" that makes it so you have to use the right radio channels etc to communicate as well.
I used to do real well on the old Operation Flashpoint earlier version of these games. They were really fun to play. I do have a copy of Arma Gold, and Arma 2.

Alright I'm going to say my piece on this. Its just my personal opinion and is based on ~1600 hours playing ArmA 3 and being a member of an ArmA 3 milsim unit!!! First of, everything Jamesons mentioned is absolutely right and makes sense. Really enjoyed watching this video. From the combatants movements, to the convoy having the two better armored vehicles in the front instead of splitting it up (one front one rear), to having air support called in and to how the US troops AI reacted which is not realistic nor professional. In addition, it doesn't make sense for a convoy to go through a town at the same speed going through just a normal road. Lead vic being in a slower version of that town entry, could've had time to spot the IED on the road (which is visible by the way, like so obvious if that would've been a real player driving front vic). Second, watching the original video posted by "TAMGA STUDIO on 24 Sep 2019" shows a better version of infantry movement and utilizing vic -2 for cover while moving. But that also could've been improved and worked on. Third, this is "Takistan" so even if the mission maker (aka ZEUS) wanted this to be perfect, he would've needed at least couple guys helping with each AI stance or movement (time consuming thing to do I might add). Same thing goes for CAS and gun runs on the enemy combatants. Fourth, AI in ArmA is always something that's considered funky. The only way to make this "convoy ambush" look more realistic is to use actual players on both sides. And since its "Takistan", it would've been almost near impossible for 40+ players to be part of this mission scenario and bunched up in that town without having major "frame drops" which would make everything slow and look less realistic/professional. Fifth, stating that frames on this map are almost non existing (if your an ArmA player reading this you'll understand how ArmA works) so I think, that the mission maker of this "convoy ambush" did a damn nice and interesting scenario of a "convoy ambush" with nice camera movement while spectating everything going down. It could've been improved on by adding CAS and better AI movement but again, it would've needed more ZEUS 's helping and controlling some aspects of the mission. But, for the purpose of a cinematic, combat and hectic engagement of a "convoy ambush", I think the video was SPOT ON!!! Finally, I'd like to state again that this is my personal opinion and it does not represent my unit's point of view. However, if anybody is interested in knowing more about the 77th JSOC, you can google for the unit's forum to check out the unit and its members.
That's an Old Arma 2 map, played on it many an hour, trying to take or hold that town. A lot of bots used here, real players are more sneaky and take cover. Nice video.
James I love all your military videos etc I served in the Irish defence forces myself I started out in an infamous infantry unit called the 3rd infantry battalion aka (THE BLOODS) we had A company and b company also known as support company I worked about 10 year in that unit and then went on to become a medic in the medical core working in a military hospital for another 12 year I notice you don't have much to say on the army ranger wing aka rangers they won best international sniper team in 2018 over in America against very well oiled sf snipers from all over the world man
An interesting note on the spacing of the convoy. Arma 3's engine is notoriously terrible when handling convoys so the vehicles will be close together. Sometimes a group of vehicles will not even follow the road together; some will go, some will stay where they are even when a move command is given to all of them. Regardless, this is the game that is the most realistic military shooter, and the company even used the game to make a military training simulator.
Personally I feel for this game to be admire you would have to watch a milsim (military simulation) game play of ARMA 3. This video does not show the real ability and tactics behind this game. Yes this looks cool but in the end doesn't do the game justice. I would say watch a Milsim video or 2 and just see. Then maybe do a review of how well people exacute certain tactics and how the game plays. ARMA is a very buggy game that's why death animation looks weird (because there is none) it's just weird ragdoll physics. So yeah I loved this video but please do a commentary on a propper MilSim video if you find time. Thanks.
Agreed, there is a lot more that can be done with Arma 3 and good milsims with actual utilization of military tactics and realism does work extraordinarily well. This video didn’t do any justice
If you are interested in more arma 3 gameplay with less cinematics I would recommended jester814 if I remember correctly some of the guys in his group are veterans and they teach all other guys proper radio procedures etc
Yea a lot of his guys are prior military, like myself (USMC). I have been a part of his unit for a few years. at the start they make us go through the basic army OSUT course (or similar as to what arma allows us to do)
Great video. I've seen this game put on a pretty high pedestal by people who look for "realistic" games (not sure how a game could ever be called "realistic" though!) and it's good to see someone who knows what real is breaking it down. I'd have never thought of the formation of the convoy as being a mistake but when you break it down like that, it makes perfect sense, and yes, why wouldn't they be using those vehicle mounted .50's? The Taliban reinforcements came in all guns blazing with theirs on the back of that pickup straight away! For more gaming stuff, some of the Battlefield 3 and Battlefield 4 single player missions are incredibly cinematic and may be worth checking out just for the spectacle even if you don't end up doing a video on them.
i play arma alot, have about 1000 hours, although our group leader has about 7000hrs (he's been playing for years) The game itself has some bugs in the way the AI work, so they do strange things sometimes. ArmA itself has a huge modding community for gear vehicles units etc and has a variant called VBS which many militaries around the world use for some training situations. Its most dynamic and fun, also extremely challenging sometimes when playing with a group of about 10-30 other players, usually someone in the group makes a mission every few days, which are usually all of the three fun, dynamic and challenging. The most recent VBS4, includes a module that 3D maps anywhere on the planet to a degree, so you can plan for any scenario you can think of, in any region of the world. But its expensive
I’m a big dcs world player flight sim got currently 4200 hrs and arma 3 is my next with 1200 hrs arma 3 just released through mods a new Vietnam campaign series for free and it is some of the most intense unforgiving milsim.
This game is a sandbox so air support could be called in but only if whoever designed the scenario decided to put it in. There's some issues with the AI as well, with the spacing issue at the beginning I believe they are actually keeping proper spacing but the problem is they are made up of several different groups and the AI only knows how to keep distance from their own group so they could be walking shoulder to shoulder with someone else and not see a problem. The big movements when dying are a problem with the physics simulation, I don't know exactly how it works but the bodies go from being held up to being limp and I guess somewhere there there's something which pushes them out and up. A lot of the time they just drop down when they die however. With arma being a sandbox there are various degrees of realism. If you were to look at a milsim unit their actions make a lot more sense than some people just casually playing the game or someone just trying to get shots that look nice for a video.
Arma 3 can actually be very realistic if you mod it. The base game has limitations but with only a few mods now as a medic you must measure bpm, bp, airway intake, blood types, medicine, overdoses, broken bones, different types of wounds and so fourth.
I would absolutely love to play A3 with you :D. I might not be in the US-Part of military simulation, but I can imagine that a Unit having a guy like you would set standards for the US-Simulators.
I wouldn't be using the standing position with no cover to fire my weapon. I would find cover and use the prone or kneeling position, behind the cover. I would also make use of grenades or a grenade launcher.
most likely the reason there was no air support is because in Arma 3 flying is actually difficult because they tried to make it realistic, so pilots that are good at attacking are few and far between. meaning these people probably didnt have one available when they were doing this.
I play battlefield 2 project reality and similar games, usually see the other problem where troops won't dismount when they should. And the armed vehicles get relied on way too much, needs to be a mix. Of course I get it the way the game works makes the vehicles often a lot better then they are IRL in certain situations.
Ive seen worse convoy set ups in arma 3, one convoy decided too put the truck we needed too protect on the front of the conoy, i was in a heli looking at wtf they were doing, the mission failed pretty quickly
The best thing about ArmA is its modability and the scenario editor, where you can set up any scenario you want. Unfortunately, the AI sucks, so usually it's the multiplayer battles that are realistic.
RIP his right ear haha Nice review, I personaly play Mislim Arma and the most common issue I see when I play with my friends, is that they complain about diying too quickly... when I go on to rescue them... 90% of the time they are in an open area while having at least 3-4 good covers around them... People out there, for friends sake... when you are engaged... 1 - Take cover 2 - Spot ALL the dangers, dont be in an tunnel vision setup 3 - Engage... So we dont have to hear your : F... GAME ! That's not even funny to play ! You get instant kill ! The AI are too strong !!! WTF !!! I was lying down !!! Dude... the AI take covers... you don't... guess what happen next Thats what that guy mainly noticed, too many troops in the open field while having thousands way to cover and keep safe while engaging targets. Reloading standing still in the middle of the road while being ingaged by 30 tango ? Really ? Why not running naked ? at least you'd be running... maybe more chances to stay alive hahaha
Arma 3 has a lot of realism units it’d be cool to see you pick on some of those units because this is just one guy controlling ai units on both sides where as some units play styles are based on squad infantry tactics with radio call outs for support people take on ranked positions and other jobs like medic or machine gunner or AT roles
I love me some Arma 3! Over 3500 hours logged in cooperative milsim operations (MSO's). Please check out some multuplayer versions of this! It is much more realistic
I’m sure you already know that the front vehicle is an MRAP so putting the Humvee at the front could expose it to IEDs if they were expecting mines. Obviously the MRAP didn’t do its job but the point still stands.
the entire video I just talked through brakeing contact cover and concealment movement to contact fire and maneuver flanking where the F...K is the QRF? gunships ac130 tanks even a squad sized mrep stryker or Humvee element to respond
Great video always like to see professionals react to these thing but i also think that the screen with the gameplay should be larger but again great video

4 mods that could have changed this video: Lambs Immers, AramFX, Blastcore, and Incon Effects. AI would move and cover in a more realistic manner and the explosions and hit effects would be less clunky.
Any intentions of doing a Marine Reacts to the movie Outpost on Netflix? Never served, but it was about the battle of Kamdesh which Ty Carter received the Medal of Honor. I was wondering if it did justice to what they went through in such a horribly placed outpost. What I watched and I couldn't imagine. @Jamesons Travels loving the fact you checking out ArmA 3, i play it for 4 years and i can't get enough, don't forget that in ArmA you can be as tactical as you want, the shortcomings you see are down to the people playing it, if you have a military experience you will incorporate that in your game-play, if someone has no tactical background it will show, hence AI standing up while shooting. Like i said it can be as tactical as your skills and experience will allow, you can have CAS, arty and so on. You will be surprised to know how many vets play this game, including me. It's the closest thing you can get to combat, as it is a simulator rather than a simple game. Keep up the good work Soldier.
i think the problem with this is its AI vs Ai so they dont act very tactically. players vs players would be a better depiction. but those sorta ops take hours because its mainly sitting in trenches or driving and communicating over radio.

That's an Old Arma 2 map, played on it many an hour, trying to take or hold that town. A lot of bots used here, real players are more sneaky and take cover. Nice video.
This guy is a badass. He seems like a legit good guy i would bring fishing 😂👌
Hahaha honestly it's funny watching you roast the arma ragdolls and models lmaoo
I'm hooked on your videos Great work
If you are interested in more arma 3 gameplay with less cinematics I would recommended jester814 if I remember correctly some of the guys in his group are veterans and they teach all other guys proper radio procedures etc
Yea a lot of his guys are prior military, like myself (USMC). I have been a part of his unit for a few years. at the start they make us go through the basic army OSUT course (or similar as to what arma allows us to do)
Oh nice Arma 3
Got to love Arma 3 AI
Im playing Arma 3 right now! The editor is best
I was about to type this as a suggestion when I saw the link
Well it is just a fan made machinima. I'm honestly not sure why these TAMGA guys are so popular.
i play arma alot, have about 1000 hours, although our group leader has about 7000hrs (he's been playing for years)
The game itself has some bugs in the way the AI work, so they do strange things sometimes.
Just like a John Rambo movie! Endless automatic 🔥
Actually, I saw the AI doing a good job with controlled pairs here. It's just that guy with the IAR that was suppressing
dude they even got the warning labels inside the vehicle lmao
I love how he looks like
This is better be good
This game is a sandbox so air support could be called in but only if whoever designed the scenario decided to put it in.
I love your content
Nice video keep up the good videos.
I just saw this but there's a guy still on the machine gun of the truck that got blown up at 3:30.
most likely the reason there was no air support is because in Arma 3 flying is actually difficult because they tried to make it realistic, so pilots that are good at attacking are few and far between. meaning these people probably didnt have one available when they were doing this.
I play battlefield 2 project reality and similar games, usually see the other problem where troops won't dismount when they should. And the armed vehicles get relied on way too much, needs to be a mix. Of course I get it the way the game works makes the vehicles often a lot better then they are IRL in certain situations.
Battlefield isnt realistic
Ive seen worse convoy set ups in arma 3, one convoy decided too put the truck we needed too protect on the front of the conoy, i was in a heli looking at wtf they were doing, the mission failed pretty quickly
This game is something else
The best thing about ArmA is its modability and the scenario editor, where you can set up any scenario you want. Unfortunately, the AI sucks, so usually it's the multiplayer battles that are realistic.
RIP his right ear haha
Nice review, I personaly play Mislim Arma and the most common issue I see when I play with my friends, is that they complain about diying too quickly... when I go on to rescue them...
Dude... the AI take covers... you don't... guess what happen next
Thats what that guy mainly noticed, too many troops in the open field while having thousands way to cover and keep safe while engaging targets.
Reloading standing still in the middle of the road while being ingaged by 30 tango ? Really ? Why not running naked ? at least you'd be running... maybe more chances to stay alive hahaha
My man is roasting waypoint systems and the AI in this game.
Aww he could have saw OperatorDrewski
I agree with most this stuff said in the video. "got the 50's use em" especially.
Damn right!
Please do a reaction video of Ross Kemp in Afghanistan
It would be cool to have him-play a game in our clan, he could lead the squad
great vids. thanks.
His face throughout the whole video made me laugh really hard 🤣. He's probably thinking like wtf are these morons doing lol.
the entire video I just talked through brakeing contact cover and concealment movement to contact fire and maneuver flanking where the F...K is the QRF? gunships ac130 tanks even a squad sized mrep stryker or Humvee element to respond
I have to say with a couple mods for ai and immersion, the game feels soooo different and more real. Cant believe I played arma without it
Great video always like to see professionals react to these thing but i also think that the screen with the gameplay should be larger but again great video
I almost forgot you should react to operator drewski gameplay and also squad
im up he sees me im down,5 second rushes like he said your never standing endless advancing love the channel boss happy fourth hooah!
wish there were some reacts to player made zeus missions
I would love that you react to the Swiss Armed Forces! Based on their citizens militia system. I d love to hear your comments on them!
You can find some great videos on YT . The Marine for example makes a video on them every year.
4 mods that could have changed this video: Lambs Immers, AramFX, Blastcore, and Incon Effects. AI would move and cover in a more realistic manner and the explosions and hit effects would be less clunky.
I got a suggestion cod4 remastered death from above mission. also good vid
Thank you for your service and the effort you put into your content/channel.
Raid episode 4 just dropped today. You should do your reaction on that, the choreography is pretty good
The fact of the gameplay being realistic depends on the person who is playing it.
The people in the video thought they were being realistic until they see this video lol.
i dont know why are you reacting to this but i somehow enjoyed XD
i think the problem with this is its AI vs Ai so they dont act very tactically. players vs players would be a better depiction. but those sorta ops take hours because its mainly sitting in trenches or driving and communicating over radio.
