My deepest thanks for including The Edan Trilogy in this lovely video, Brian! It was indeed more than 18 years of writing and tinkering, mostly in the summers. And the climax of Return to Edan happens in the fall, so perfect! 😁
Love, love, love Robin Hobb books. They were not slow for me, I was gripped ❤. Currently reading Return to Edan and loving this trilogy. Great recommendations Brian.
Awesome list Brian, for whatever reason I've been itching to get into Sufficiently Advanced Magic lately! Love your one for the road, and as per usual I strongly relate. I work in the fitness industry primarily doing coaching for strength, muscle growth, and fat loss, and I can 1000% attest to not only the importance of the "why," but also to there being nothing wrong whatsoever with a vanity-based goal. Of course health matters also, but all of us want to feel comfortable and confident in how we look and feel!
Thanks, man! I appreciate that! Yeah, for sure grab Sufficiently Advanced Magic. There are tons of tower fights / puzzles you'll love beyond just the compelling academia story.
These definitely seem like some pretty epic reads! The Edan Trilogy and The Realm of the Elderings are, of course, high in my TBR. I feel like Mistborn kind of gives a fall vibe. That would be my contribution.
I’m reading the Alex Verus series. I’m loving it! I read book three over Labour Day weekend, and am about to start book four; “hidden”. And I found my copy of Seamus Healy’s Beowulf. I’m reading it slowly, but I’m reading it and haven’t even needed the hotline yet 😉😁
I hope to read The Way of Eden and other books from my TBR. As always, I love your video. 👍 PS I hope to publish my book Kirs Fury this month, which is a sequel to the Godeena book. 😄
Currently into Edan myself! And Hobb is coming later this month. What a well thought out list. I’m excited to see the uniqueness of how Phillip put together the trilogies structure by how you described it. I think so far the “sleep” has lended Edan to Fall for me.
I always appreciate your "one for the road." I too have been working on my health. Eating more salad (as much as I don't really want to) and going to yoga twice a week. Which is why I've been missing your Wednesday live streams. Sorry 😢
I really need to read Library at Mount Char sometime soon, and will never get tired of seeing Verus get recommended! That series is nuts. Great one for the road as always, you always give me something interesting to think about! Understanding our motivation behind our goals is not something I've ever even really considered - I usually just set my mind to something, then put my head down and get to work. Awesome video man.
You totally sold me on Sufficiently Advanced Magic! It sounds like something I'd really enjoy. Some books that feel like good fall reads to me I would add are The Witcher books, The Children of Hurin, Kings of the Wyld, Uprooted, and maybe Howl's Moving Castle. I'll have to give some thought to my goals for the near future. I really like your suggestion, especially focusing on the why. Another great One for the Road!
Awesome! Finding the WHY is the most important part in the entire step. Keep me posted on how you like Sufficiently Advanced Magic! Agreed, Kings of the Wyld totally feels like fall!!
«Edan» is indeed an excellent Autumn/Fall choice! Apologies if I repeat some of my response to Johanna on her Fall recommendations video, but with the connection of Halloween to Celtic Myths, Fantasy/S&S/Historical Fiction with some inspiration from Celtic Myths (such as «Edan», «The Chronicles of Prydain» & «The Kingkiller Chronicles») is to my mind very Autumnal in spirit (correspondingly, I feel Norse/Viking inspired stories have a natural Winter theme to them). I have myself been reading some of Rosemary Sutcliffe’s Arthurian Historical Fiction stories which fits that label very well, with the extra bonus of the fall of Roman-Celtic Britain having a “Sunset/Fall of Empires” theme fitting of Autumn/Fall. As for the one for the road: I just got offered for the third time in a row the main role for our local historical play. Even though it is totally voluntary work, I have to admit me being asked to return to the part for a third time, is to me a clear sign of appreciation of my talent, that I can’t help but value very highly!
@@BrianBell7 I can only find a short cellphone recording of our first production from 2019: Unfortunatly it is in Norwegian, but I show up midway in the video, playing a lowly serf just before the Black Plague, who questions "If all humans are equal in the Eyes of God and we all share a divine spark of His making, why do the nobles and the rich treat the poor so bad?" th-cam.com/video/JV7RRgHWKg8/w-d-xo.html
Love this diverse recommendations list! I also associate those more classic fantasy vibes with autumn, so I think Farseer and Edan are great picks. And I really want to try The Library at Mount Char, it has been on my radar for sooo long! Some recs from me would be Renia by Karl Forshaw, Age of Myth by Michael J. Sullivan, Spark of the Divine by Louise Holland, and Nevernight by Jay Kristoff! Also, love the one for the road. Good luck with pursuing your new goals. I am going the complete other way around and try to gain at least 25-30 pounds to get to a healthy weight again... I have been severely slacking on my eating disorder recovery. Thanks for the kick in the butt!
@@BrianBell7 Hugs! I have a feeling you might jive better with Empire of the Vampire (also a great fall read tbh!), but Nevernight has my heart because it got me back into reading after a break in high school :)
Nothing like reading some fantasy on a cool fall day! I agree Realm of the Elderlings is a perfect read for this time of year. Also, I really need to check out Alex Verus sometime!
Could not agree more about the One For The Road! You dont have to wait for new goals and why is super important. Im stealing this rec from Johanna but the Witcher short stories feel like a fall read to me! Also side note on the back pain check out the the mcgill big 3. They look silly but really can help with back pain.
You’ve definitely added some series to my tbr with this video Brian! Also love how you described Farseer, I’m on Assassins Quest now and couldn’t be having a better time!
But I don't wanna go back to school! Solid picks, love the fall vibes grouping. It's a nice change up from just going with Spooky Season picks that others are doing.
For a classic, I'd add Ray Bradbury's "October Country." These were written before Bradbury''s childlike, optimistic humanist image was in place. The Small Assassin, The Emisary, The Man Upstairs, and The Lake have not lost their edge. And although it's not in the collection, his short story "The October Game" will really make your jaw land on the floor. And that black leather jacket was a great choice.
Thanks for the jacket compliment! There have been a few Bradbury selections mentioned here, so I think I'll take your advice and add to TBR Mountain. Thank you!
Your video made me realize that two of my favorite books are "Fall" books based on their titles alone (and I think work well as fall reads). The first is The Thousand Autumns of Jacob de Zoet by David Mitchell (same author as Cloud Atlas). You might appreciate the Japanese setting given your love of Shogun and impressive Duolingo streak. The second is House of Leaves by Mark Danielewski. Hard to explain this one other than to say it's a mindf*** and needs to be read in physical format due to its ergodic style. I'll let you look that word up (or have Philip explain it lol).
ha, nice! Yes, Philip is the human dictionary and it's for sure easier to ask him :) I'll check both those books out and add them! Day 825 Duolingo streak baby!
Where I live in Perth, Western Australia we really don't get a massive autumn and winter. It exists, but is incredibly mild in comparison to many other places in the world. So, for me season doesn't come into it too much from my perspective. I still enjoyed your list, though. The first tetralogy I ever read was The Chronicles of Tenebrak by Shannah Jay (Anna Jacobs) and was when I first learnt what a tetralogy was. That will be my contribution. 😅
For Fall, I plan to read Farewell Summer by Ray Bradbury, which is a sequel to Dandelion Wine. Given how good Dandelion Wine is, I have high expectation for this one...
❤ Library at Mount Char so engrossing. Need Edan 😭 Starting Assassin's Apprentice tomorrow 🙌🏻 Loooove Alex Verus ❤ Ive read the whole series 🤓 Audio is brilliant 🎉 Awaken Online is going on the list 🤔 Fun video 🎉🙌🏻🤓
Great video good job love the positivity! :) I just watched Something Wicked This Way Comes. Now I really want to read the book by Ray Bradbury that has some serious autumnal spooky vibes!
I bought Mt Char over a year ago based on the synopsis alone and never got around to it, so I guess this is the time to read it! Excellent One for the Road as always. If you don't have an intrinsic "why" for accomplishing something, then what's the point of seeing it through? It's something I've been thinking about/struggling with lately so it's nice to see put into clear, actionable terms.
We can get all 4 seasons in a single day here 😂. I've already achieved my weight loss goal for the year, so many more I lose I see as a head start for next year's.
Nice list! This is a good reminder to get to Libraray at Mount Char sometime. I love the One for the Road, though I admit I’m not a goal-oriented person. All that aside, I’m really sorry about your back pain. I hope you find the best strategies to relieve it and feel good! 🤍 Hooray for being on the same theme! I made a video with my fall fantasy recommendations today, and we might have a couple in common. Cheers!
I'm heading to Johanna Reads right now to see it! I haven't watched much YT today but people in the comments mentioned it! Great minds, Johanna! Great minds!

My ears are burning 🔥 😉🤪
Look at you going on for 30 minutes about books you love. I get you my friend I really get you!

Love, love, love Robin Hobb books. They were not slow for me, I was gripped ❤. Currently reading Return to Edan and loving this trilogy. Great recommendations Brian.
