Trailer is alright, one question-why Primaris marines are so short, aren't they suppose to be even higher then normal Space Marines? Please correct me if i am wrong
@@yokai1235 They are (mostly) unaugmented women so they would only be taller than the guardsman due to the armour. Since regular Space Marines have larger armour as well as being so much bigger than unaugmented humans the Sisters of Battle should barely be up to a Space Marines chest, let alone a Primaris Marine. Might just be bad sizing or shot framing.
@@GUnit40W I'm pretty sure only genetic-freaks(biologically not augmented) become fighting Battle Sisters, so they're probably a lot larger than average women or even men.
I'm pretty sure the reason for that cinematic was to flex Storyforges ability. That skeleton on the shield is not a space marine, their ribcages fuse into a layered sheet of interlocking bones.
I loved the reversed homage to the original sister codex art with her mirroring the old model, with the leg up on a mountain of skulls, now climbing back up, not fighting downhill to the left. I'm probably interpreting way too much into this
Idk if anyone mentioned this yet, but the part of the video you pointed out that you called a "chainsword trickshot" was actually a reverse stab. It's done, but the hilt being shifted in the palm to face the sword in a backwards stab. Or rather a stab behind you. If you watch his hand carefully you can also see he re-reverses the chainsword to have it back in it's normal position. People who actually practice bladework can indeed do this with training, but it takes awhile to get really good to be equally as fast as he did it.
I love the classic sisters pose when she enters and stands on the pile if skulls. Also I noticed that the newest models are featured in this trailer, so now I wonder if that means actual female guard models.
"And in our darkest hour, a spiteful universe awakens forgotten evils to break us. The galaxy burns. Yet still we stand, the last bulwark against the terror. And while we draw breath we will fight." I think GW has been reading some of the quotes about their universe, because that sounds suspiciously like a description of the Imperium that I read on a forum once: "The IoM is kinda what you get when you cross the Dark Ages, Religious Fanaticism, Xenophobia, the ability to defy physics, a arsenal that makes the most advanced firearms of our reality look like pop-guns (The kind that use those little red plastic caps) and finally slather it all with heaping helpings of general badassness and the attitude that if the Universe is out to kill you, your going to goddamn kill it first. Which in all its twisted Fu*ked-upness, it is awesome."
Biggest problem with the trailer for me is that I feel it's creating a Good vs Evil now. Imperium Good and Everything else bad which is crappy because Good and evil in 40k is a matter of perspective.
@@abrilverde6415 I may have not explained my point well but I agree with what you're saying. Nobody in 40k is good, each race considers themselves good and everyone else evil. However I feel this trailer is stamping good on the Imperium.

11:22 - " I thought something was going to burst through the window and 'Oh Yeeeaaaa" and purge everything" - Sooo you were expecting the Koolaid Man to rescue the Sisters of Battle?
I think they intentionally made it as cartoony as this was; just grimdark enough to be honest to the setting but cartoony enough to be marketable and look more like the physical models. Anybody newish to the game would think, "Oh, these slightly wacky evil skeleton thingies kill stuff, and these cool armor people are the good guys, probably; wow, if these were models, I'd totally buy some of them and fight my friends with them." It also has enough within it to get fans of the game excited; new units? Sweet! It's a commercial, not a film; it's supposed to be just good enough to attract new audiences and get people hyped for the next edition, in which it arguably succeeds.
@@johnfraire6931 dow3 had the same idea to be more cartoonish and this way appeal to wider audience, but it turned out to be a failure so I'm not sure they know what they are doing
Hey mate, I'll send you this first part on Twitter so I can try to get it in front of your eyes. I agree that they (GW) missed the mark by doing Ultra instead of Templars, especially since its common to see Sisters participating in Templar Crusades. As for them (GW) doing this for all major events or even a show, a friend of mine who does this type of work told me earlier in the year when the league cinematic came out that video projects like these are easily pushing to 7 figures. Would I like to see more of this? Yes. My little sister and brother (17 and 14 respectively where I'm turning 35 this year) were iffy on wanting to play, but after they saw this trailer they're looking at armies on their phones/comps and asking me to teach them how to paint. So the trailer did it's job right, even if she is looking Eldar and he's wanting Demons...year Until the new vid comes out, I wish you good health and fortune.
I like 3 things in this... 1) The guardsmen getting disintegrated and the survivor's reaction 2) The speed and agility the Sister has with her Power Armour (Just the way she dashes away from the necron after she lost her helmet) and her firing a Boltgun one-handed. 3) The moment she prays to the Emperor to heal her wound. The detail and animation in this are just beautiful =)
Getting real sick of people blasting every 40K animation for not being like Astartes. Astartes was amazing, but it has a particular style that lenda itself to the type of vibe the creator was going for. It would not work for long features like Helsreach and Death of Hope, remember it took him almost 3 years to make less than 15 minutes worth of content. How long do you think it would take to animate an hour and a half of content that doesn't have just animation, but acting mixed in as well? Besides, even if time constraints weren't an issue not everything has to look like Astartes, I'm personally much more interested in Angels of Death than I was for Astartes, as the art style and animation quirks Richard Boylan developed for Helsreach are, in my opnion, some of the best 3D animated works around, and not just between fan projects. Talking specifically about this trailer I thought the art style was excelent, If you look closely the shapes, textures and colors all greatly resemblethe table top minis, even the scenery looks like table top scenery. For a commercial announcing a major event in the table top making the video look like a piece of the game that came to life is very ingenious on their part. Otherwise It would kind of feel like those outstanding CGI game trailers that look or feel nothing like the gameplay.
I disagree. They had a whole team and did this, and it's only 3m26s long. The guy behind Astartes was one man and on top of that he decided to go all in when making his 5 min warhammer cinematic. They should definetly been able to create something like Astartes with a whole team. Question is why they chose to do this level of animation and style instead. We all have different taste so I can't really argue when you say you prefer the style of Angels of Death over Astartes. In my own opinion Astartes animation is some of the best ever done in any scifi. It portrays 40k perfectly. I and many others don't like the new 9th ed cinematic at all, it's way too cartonish and silly. I really hope that GW will change it's direction and stop wasting the grimdark potential that the 40k universe has. Less Marvel and DC and more grimdark. Compare 40k codex and rulebooks from 3rd ed and now.... It was way more dark back then, now it's all bright and shiny.
@@carstr9547 >I hope GW will stop wasting grimdark potential > actually supports the guy who repeatedly called grimdark sides of 40k bullshit and conciders it just a dark sci-fi instead of the actual case of it being a hi-tech fantasy, hence the clean art style of all the Astartes series Really, dude? That is besides the fact that the quality of effects and facial animation are miles higher than Astartes could ever hope to be. The only thing they could borrow from Astartes is the overall armor proportions of the Space Marines, and the reason why that is not the case is fairly simple since these are clearly based on their tabletop counterparts, because it's a bloody new edition trailer for it.
@@theovoldjopus4272 Alex Wald Hey I've never heard a word from the creator on what he thinks of 40k etc. And tbh what does it matter? Well sure he might define 40k like you say. But it's a way better definition than what I saw in the GW cinematic. My interpretation of his vision/creation of 40k is just how I myself imagine the grimdark of the 40k universe. Even if he doesnt consider his style grimdark. It may be somewhat clean and sharp, but it is still very dark, brooding and ominous. It got brutal unapologetic violence with no care for who might be watching. The atmosphere is loaded with threat and a good dose of mystery of what's really going on. That is 40k to me. I saw none of that in GW's trailer. My point is that I really fear GW is taking us down a road where 40k get more and more kids friendly and cartonish. Where Space Marines are good guys, action heroes, just bulky dudes in cool blue shiny armour saving the day. Just like Marvel and DC. That is what I saw in the 9th ed cinematic. That is NOT what I saw depicted in Astartes. But hey, what you prefer and what I prefer might differ like hot and cold. We just got different tastebuds. If I don't like what 40k is becoming I'm still happy I can just play 3rd (saved all books) and enjoy Astartes and whatever else he releases. However I think the need/want for more 40k just like he imagines it will grow. :) cheers mate
@@leonardomarquesbellini ofc not, however I and many others who love 40k dont think that GW is on the right path if they intend to make 40k this cartonish as in the trailer for 9th.
I love the animation style detailed enough to look brilliant but not cartoony to the point where u can’t capture the grim dark of 40k I would be more than happy if they ever made an imperial guard movie slash series in this style no excuse with funding because the prices are doing nothing but rising but that won’t stop me from feeding my plastic crack addiction also thanks for the constant uploads Valrak seriously keep grafting
I wish they would make a proper PC game. This looks so friggin amazing. I love how the male voice actor manages to sound really offended, that the universe dares to send this filth at him.
I'm pretty sure the female voice actor is Emma Gregory - she's the one who does the voice of old (General) Jenit Sulla in the Ciaphas Cain audiobooks (well For the Emperor anyway). Sounds very similar to me anyway. Always thought old Sulla sounded like a Sister of Battle (despite being Imperial Guard) personally, so the voice use makes sense
My quick summary: 1. I love that guardwomens reaction when her friends get disintegrated. She's just like " holy shit I didn't even know that could happen!" 2. The first half of the trailer (sister focused part) is good in pretty much all respects. Good atmosphere, grimdark and some good cinematography. 3. The space marine charge is awesome and that little solo fight scene that the sergeant has reminds me of the church fight scene in Kingsman. 4. When the space marine sergeant and sister fight back to back its super cheesy and the cheese increases even more right at the end when they give each other a stare and charge the huge necron. Overall I really liked the trailer but certain moments are a little ruined by unnecessary cheese. Also of course I would of liked to see something like Blood Angels or Templars but it doesn't bother me too much because this isn't a short film but a trailer for the new models and edition and Ultramarines are and have always been the poster boys (someone has to be) so I understand why they went the Ultra route
This video is proof that the internet likes to tear everything down. There's a comment on the Gamespot or something's facebook share talking about how terrible this is. I think the dude called it something like "cheap looking" and "amateur." He railed against how it didn't have a storyline. My take is this the closest thing to Astartes that anyone has produced, and a giant leap in quality for GW. The internet and negativity are way too closely aligned.
No matter what people are going to whine and complain, some people just have this driving desire to nitpick anything that's been made with some talent.
"the closest thing to Astartes" - you proved your opponents right with this one phrase, it might be better than anything else produced by GW, but nowhere near Astartes level of quality, so shouldn't we hold a multi-million corporation to at least the same level of standard as a single dude in a basement is able to achieve?
It's no wonder Cain is horrified by gauss weapons. I mean the description of what happened was good but by the Emperor actually seeing the effect is just horrifying
I see equality in this trailer. 1st half women, 2nd half men, both are together in the end, everything balanced as all things should be. This is how you make a trailer, not blatantly pandering to any modern PC nonsense, just show the essence of the game world.
Chapter Master Valrak I get that but as you can see in almost every other animated 40k short the space marines have notable recoil. They are firing 75. shells, after all. The fact that the sister has a dialled down version of the power armour and can fire a bolter one-handed with no kick at all is bullshit, in my opinion.
Chapter Master Valrak they haven’t applied that to animations in the past but eh, could be. Only other reason I can think of is that the lad who did the animations doesn’t know the calibre of the gun they’re firing and by extension general 40k.
I thought (unless they've changed things) that bolters have no (or very little) recoil, as they the powder in the casing is just enough to get the projectile out of the gun before a rocket ignites.
Really agree with what you said about other animations comparisons against 'Astartes'. Glad you brought it up and I hope our other brothers think along the same lines!
The new trailer is my favorite animation to come out so far! The Gothic scenery, the Guardsmen, the gauss weapons, seeing the Sororitas in action, a miracle, the Necrons, Assault Primaris (I need these for my Space Wolves!), and lots of action! This is so much of what I've wanted to see for awhile and M2 Animation delivered! I'm feeling hyped for 9th Edition and really looking forward to what Boylan has been up to with Angels of Death. Just a great time to be a fan of 40K.
From a real world perspective, the female guardsman's reactions to her teammates getting killed is perfect. In her mind "Holy shit my friend" not yet embracing reality that this is real in her world. Epic.

What a great action scene. Man, that Sister of Battle was so amazing looking. I'm glad they chose the Necrons for this sequence. Love those villains. Was the creature at the end a tomb lord?

But I get that it's a trailer for new products and on every bit of box art since the beginning of Rogue Trader it's always been Ultramarines. I just wish they give my beloved Iron Hands and Salamanders some love
I agree with you that it should of been Black Templars instead of Ultra Marines but with that it would have been nice to have a different Order for the Sisters too (instead of Martyred Lady yet again). Ie; it would have been better as Black Templar marines and Order of Sacred Rose Sisters.
Seeing that Gauss Flayer disintegrate those poor Guardsmen was really awesome. Getting to see how quickly a Necron weapon destroys something is amazing. It's also nice to see some Sororitas action alongside the Primaris. And that Chainsword, Mmm. So good.
when the sister is introduced she kind of reminds me of members of the afgan national army, coalition forces were taking cover in a ditch and their afgan allies were just stood up right, shooting at the enemy lol they believed that if god determines they die then they die lol faith was their shield and i think they show that wonderfully in this cinematic with the sister
The female voice actress in the cinematic is Emma Gregory, I believe this specific performance was Saint Celestine, a character Emma has been portraying quite a lot recently, especially with the new Adepta Sororitas stuff
I enjoyed this. Think they’re trying to be a bit more inclusive now with Sororitas. But awesome to see them fleshed out more. I think with your comment or comparing this to Astartes. I believe that one day GW may have some cgi on par with Astartes but I do believe this is a bit cartoony. Not saying it’s bad it’s just a the style. I think that the proportions of the space marines are just a bit off. But definitely good I believe.
redsimonDE Marxist propaganda? Haven’t a clue what you’re talking about. You seen how fast political correctness is going? Give them an inch and they’ll take a mile. Get ready man. It won’t be long till 40k gets cancelled for toxic masculinity
Still think they could have done more than just Ultramarines in for the reveal, as said by some the Black Templars would have been more fitting because we all know the first ones who are going to get the new models are Ultramarines anyway and the hype should be focused on others besides the poster chapter.

The voice actress is Emma Gregory , brilliant voice !
I didn't know her name but I recognise her voice from Warhammer 40k audiobooks.

I feel like story scarabs are way scarier than gamewise scarabs.

The new logo could have been great... if they had just placed at least one skull on it.
Khorne took all the skulls
And a few rivets maybe, everything 40k is better with rivets
I love the classic sisters pose when she enters and stands on the pile if skulls.
Also I noticed that the newest models are featured in this trailer, so now I wonder if that means actual female guard models.

Nice to see Sisters of Battle not getting fodderized for a change.
"And in our darkest hour, a spiteful universe awakens forgotten evils to break us. The galaxy burns. Yet still we stand, the last bulwark against the terror. And while we draw breath we will fight."
I think GW has been reading some of the quotes about their universe, because that sounds suspiciously like a description of the Imperium that I read on a forum once:
"The IoM is kinda what you get when you cross the Dark Ages, Religious Fanaticism, Xenophobia, the ability to defy physics, a arsenal that makes the most advanced firearms of our reality look like pop-guns (The kind that use those little red plastic caps) and finally slather it all with heaping helpings of general badassness and the attitude that if the Universe is out to kill you, your going to goddamn kill it first.
Which in all its twisted Fu*ked-upness, it is awesome."
Biggest problem with the trailer for me is that I feel it's creating a Good vs Evil now. Imperium Good and Everything else bad which is crappy because Good and evil in 40k is a matter of perspective.
I disagree with you, I think no matterwhat perspective you take, everyone is evil, because evil is the first condition of survival in this universe
@@abrilverde6415 I may have not explained my point well but I agree with what you're saying. Nobody in 40k is good, each race considers themselves good and everyone else evil. However I feel this trailer is stamping good on the Imperium.

@@davosazizora4611 didn't they hire the helsreach guy to work on the new Angels of Death series?

So the trailer did it's job right, even if she is looking Eldar and he's wanting Demons...year
Until the new vid comes out, I wish you good health and fortune.

One of my favourite things about this trailer is the music. Especially the piece played when the Sister is praying for strength. It’s incredible.
I like 3 things in this...
1) The guardsmen getting disintegrated and the survivor's reaction
2) The speed and agility the Sister has with her Power Armour (Just the way she dashes away from the necron after she lost her helmet) and her firing a Boltgun one-handed.
3) The moment she prays to the Emperor to heal her wound.
The detail and animation in this are just beautiful =)
The Wound-Heal was bullshit

@@carstr9547 NOT EVERYTHING HAS TO LOOK LIKE ASTARTES
@@carstr9547 >I hope GW will stop wasting grimdark potential
> actually supports the guy who repeatedly called grimdark sides of 40k bullshit and conciders it just a dark sci-fi instead of the actual case of it being a hi-tech fantasy, hence the clean art style of all the Astartes series
Really, dude?
2 years later, and the same studio is making a series on it lol
Now I need to find that music that played on the background of the trailer.
What I loved: all of it!
What I hated: there isn't more of it!
A wonderful animation and good to see the Sisters getting in on the action.
My quick summary:
1. I love that guardwomens reaction when her friends get disintegrated. She's just like " holy shit I didn't even know that could happen!"
Loved your reaction and breakdown of the trailer Chapter Master! As a Black Templar, I agree the smurfs stole our spot in this fight!!
And also one of the reason dow3 is dead now but I can't blame though, relic should've listen and give the game more time before release.
"the closest thing to Astartes" - you proved your opponents right with this one phrase, it might be better than anything else produced by GW, but nowhere near Astartes level of quality, so shouldn't we hold a multi-million corporation to at least the same level of standard as a single dude in a basement is able to achieve?
@@HarmKaban that doesn't make it bad
I LOVE the ULTRAMARINES "i'm blue double the double that" jajajajajaja
It's no wonder Cain is horrified by gauss weapons. I mean the description of what happened was good but by the Emperor actually seeing the effect is just horrifying
I see equality in this trailer. 1st half women, 2nd half men, both are together in the end, everything balanced as all things should be. This is how you make a trailer, not blatantly pandering to any modern PC nonsense, just show the essence of the game world.
There should’ve been more recoil on the bolters
The power armour negates that.
@@Ziflin Maybe just for the rule of cool?
Chapter Master Valrak they haven’t applied that to animations in the past but eh, could be. Only other reason I can think of is that the lad who did the animations doesn’t know the calibre of the gun they’re firing and by extension general 40k.
I thought (unless they've changed things) that bolters have no (or very little) recoil, as they the powder in the casing is just enough to get the projectile out of the gun before a rocket ignites.
The primaris guy look like a toy. Not bulky enough
When I first saw this, I thought GW were about to announce a FPS with playable space marines and sisters of battle.
That first Primaris Marine should have been the Emperor’s Champion with the Black Sword
Really agree with what you said about other animations comparisons against 'Astartes'. Glad you brought it up and I hope our other brothers think along the same lines!
I loved the trailer, wanted more of the guard to feature. would have been nice to see some people in the background with their flashlights.
16:14 How did you miss that marine using his bolter to shield himself from the gauss? that was a nice detail
Using a command pint to re-roll the save at 11:38.
I think the explosive impact of bolter rounds isn't quite expresed enough, and the marines look a little short for primaris
Epic.

Ultramarines best marines!
What a great action scene. Man, that Sister of Battle was so amazing looking. I'm glad they chose the Necrons for this sequence. Love those villains. Was the creature at the end a tomb lord?
Completely agree brother, they should have rendered the Marines as either Black Templar or Salamanders. But I get that it's a trailer for new products and on every bit of box art since the beginning of Rogue Trader it's always been Ultramarines. I just wish they give my beloved Iron Hands and Salamanders some love
They make that into a tv show, i would immediately sign up to that ever streaming service it’s on
I agree with you that it should of been Black Templars instead of Ultra Marines but with that it would have been nice to have a different Order for the Sisters too (instead of Martyred Lady yet again).
Ie; it would have been better as Black Templar marines and Order of Sacred Rose Sisters.
one thing they show us a lot of regular sisters with chainsaws, is that a indicative of a regular battle sister assault squad??
Thanks for video Valrak!
If only that Necromunda lord at the end will be truly that tall to the Primaris marines on the tabletop
The female voice actress in the cinematic is Emma Gregory, I believe this specific performance was Saint Celestine, a character Emma has been portraying quite a lot recently, especially with the new Adepta Sororitas stuff
