This video is beautifully put together. At last here is a composite of selective pieces of his interviews that Vilayat Khan deserved. It is not enough to listen only to his music and say that that is enough. No sir, you have to listen to him speak to understand the linguistic and musical culture that brought him into being in the first place. If there had been justice and fairplay, he would have been declared a Bharat Ratna in the prime of his life, long before others had even heard of words like Padma Shri and Padma Bhushan etc. Instead he was told to drag behind lesser artists and be thankful that he was even asked to line up for lesser awards. It is amazing that he kept his dignity and self respect, and never wavered from his singular passion and dedication in the service of music. He is a giant of Indian Classical music without whom there would be no Sitar today. Period.

He was perhaps one of the greatest human personalities to be ever born
He taught us what self respect was
Outwardly so strong but inside was a innocent child
Vilayat was an image of God

It would be wonderful if the original could be re-output with the correct screen ratio and with the correct line order. This is historically important and it should be preserved and presented properly.

Excuse me, artists should stick to what they do best: perform.
It is dignified when their WORK speaks (instead of them)!
We respect their feelings, sentiments. We empathise with their disappointments, frustrations.
But, pardon me, their craft is their identity. They are what their creative output is.

Each individual has a right to make comments. So to ask that to be curtailed is asking a little too much.

@@2004musiciansguild Comments are welcome. Always. My remarks are not about listeners' comments.
My reference is to artists' interviews where they make/are "enticed" to make statements which do not enrich the experience/enhance the respect, especially for legends whom one holds in high esteem.
      Examples abound.
For ME at least, their image in MY mind is sacrosanct.

@@AnshumanVora Even an artist is human and has a right to his/her opinion, therefore has an equal right to comment. How right or wrong again each to their own.

    • @AnshumanVora
      @AnshumanVora 2 ปีที่แล้ว

@@2004musiciansguild Sure. Right to comment applies to anyone.
My perspective is about a dignified distance which some evolved artists maintain. That strengthens their aura. FOR ME.

Lecturing Vilayat Khan Sahab about what to do and what not is really unthinkable By the way if anybody listens to each of his words one would appreciate how true every single alphabet is and no other so called evolved artists can speak out because that requires a spinal cord and may be some awards will be missed
