Always loved the little moment Arthas had with the flower petal. Nowadays, I've always thought it was a small moment the he was hearing the remaining echos of his humanity, but like the petal, he easily and carelessly tossed it aside to be forever forgotten.
Sgtnolisten If you've read the novel by Christie Golden, Arthas: Rise of the Lich King, you'll see why that little scene is so significant. Hint: It has something to do with a promise made to him by Jaina Proudmoore when they were officially set to be the King and Queen of Lordaeron.
Mordin Solus I wouldn't read too much into that book. It was written around the time of Wrath of the Lich King, as something that would add more depth and, of course, would go hand-in-hand with the expansion for profit. And after reading the book myself, I found many inconsistencies between book-Arthas and game-Arthas. Generally, in the games' storyline, he was ruthless, determined, and never hesitated, which is a part of what made him such an indomitable adversary. In the book, however, he's always doubting himself, always full of weakness. And when it gets to Northrend (when he goes to save the Lich King), it's such a different depiction in comparison to the game, it would take me a big wall of text to name everything. It skips things like him facing a Forgotten One, and sometimes completely alters the dialogue that was had in game. I really liked in-game Arthas. I heavily disliked book-Arthas. To sum up, you could say that the Arthas that was shown in the book would never have beaten Illidan.
Ovidiu Diumea I really hated the fact that book says that somehow Arthas managed to beat Nerzhul in some stupid mental battle, which makes zero sense. I mean, Arthas was Nerzhul slave for the lack of better word. I was more happy with the fact that both their souls emerged or something, not any "And so atrhas banished nerz becuz he was lol"
***** Totally agree there! Was quite upset about that too. Eventually I got over it and understood that they just messed the story up completely with WoW...
"This kingdom shall fall and from the ashes shall rise a new order that will shake the very foundations of the world..." (i chills and sometime goosebumps to that quote) thus one of the greatest game villains was born.
I don't know about The King but when Arthas decided to slam that huge door off of it's hinges... that was a sign to get the fuck out of there. but that's just me. Still, this is #1 on my list of awesome game moments.
Arthas throwing open the doors and thundering down the hallway has to be one of the best cinematic entrances ever. You know instantly that someone's going to get hurt.
"Ah, my studio, I knew you... -You, no longer need to sacrifice for your customers, you no longer need to bear the weight of your IP, I have taken care of everything. -What is this? What are you doing blizzard! -Reforging you, Warcraft. [...] -This client shall fall and from the ashes shall arise a new server that will shake the very foundations of e-sport!"
this cutscene is about 10 years old right now (game will be 10 years old July 3rd) and yet I have never seen better video game cutscenes than this. Ten years... WoW... just wow...
Even today, these cutscenes look amazing. Back in 2002, when they were first released, this was revolutionary. I can't wait to see what Starcraft 2 brings...
This was one of my favorite clip from W3. I mean it felt so cool seeing him walking under the pedals. Arthas was a bad ass, no one can argue against that :P
i lvoe how the bridge and the palce with the pedels when arthas grabs them and the throne room OH and also the bells is all at udner city and each spot has its own whispers as you can ehre thebells ring still people cheering or screaming and the speech arthas gave to his father so awesome
Yes, the orc ending is by far the best because it touches our inner self. Bravery, self-giving, redemption, brotherhood, ... I wasn't too shocked for what Arthas did to his father. Keep in mind though, Arthas was already doing some nasty stuffs at the end of the human campaign.
The quick change to Arthas nature was a neccessary shock that added depth to his story, and unfortunately his ascension to lich king is were his story was pretty much discarded when implemented to wow...
Not that quick if you think about it... it's developed since we first meet him, and then Andoraal, and Stratholme, and all of his story brings to this... Warcraft3 ROC and TFT were masterpieces, and WoW WotLK was a glorious ending to such an epic story... Ant it's a pity they're now milking the WoW cow regardless of the artistic brightness they had achieved.
That is kind of quick, warcraft 3 and that's it, three campaigns. WotLK exploited this popularity for success, and they saved every penny for the voice actors, storyline (Lich king idling in his citadel?) and cheap cutscenes aswell, meaning no CGI for the so called glorious ending... Lots of potential down the drain.
akatsukicloak I partially agree. Sure they could use more care on the cinematics (and I'm very disappointed by the cheap ending GCG too), but it's really the only big flaw I see in WotLK, if you take for granted that WoW is a MMORPG and so it has the typical MMORPGs flaws in the storytelling. The Lich king being in his city is precisely the theme of WotLK, and he isn't idle, as you can see in many quest-lines. He becomes powerful, he becomes afraid to lose his power if the situation isn't optimal for him ("Tyrion, next time we meet it won't be on holy ground" *leaves*), he now has dragons at his doorsteps (they weren't there before) and he has many servants ready to his biddings, so he becomes less of a champion of evil - as he is in TFT - and more of a dark lord using others. All-in-all: yes, they could use the big potential better, you are right. But they did a pretty good job nonethless (even if they REALLY needed to cast a real cinematic for the end-scene, I can't agree more on that). Our opinion may differ, ofc; this is just my perception of things.
These cinematics still look godaamm amazing. To this day i don't think i've ever seen cutscenes with the detail the Warcraft III ones have. I always thought this is how they should have made a Warcraft movie, not that live action nonsense where Alliance just look like a bunch of cosplayers.
If you google "warcraft 3 soundtrack cinematic suite", you should find what you are looking for. The track of the human ending starts at ~1:55 of Cinematic Suite.
Patrick Seitz. In WotLK he was offered the chance to voice The Lich King, but due to the embarrassing amount of money Blizzard were willing to pay him his agent advised him against it.
Asad muhcytr No, Patrick Seitz is the guy who voices Arthas during the Cavern of Time instance in WoW. Justin Gross was Arthas's Warcraft 3 voice actor.
I've always loved theese vids, they are so perfect!! perfect voice acting, sounds, graphics, music = feeling Like in the "Wrath of the Lich king" vid there is a short part when we can hear the music from the outro of the WC3 Frozen Throne... Perfect!!
It will always hurt me how much for worse did Blizzard change across the years. WoW beeing such success and gold mine changed them for worse, money can corrupt even best. Just one example, when Justin Gross, voice actor of Arthas was offered to dub Lich King he refused because of how little they offered. It's insane when you think about that, what was Blizzards funds pre WC3 and after Classic and TBC and embarass actors with their offers? Greedy, greedy Acti-Blizz
@Eddie 'JaggSauce' Gluskin think it was a reference to a Warcraft II cutscene when the orcs killed an Alterac mage's guards For The Lulz, even tho Alterac was allied with the Horde.
They should've made a warcraft 4 RTS instead of going to WoW. Warcraft 3 was just too epic, especially in the story telling. Blizzards best story telling came in parts of TBC and WotLK most everything has been crap for years and this new stuff is a just a bit... far off from the old direction.
Events of this video can actually be heard within the ruins of Lordaeron which now serves as the capital of the damned forsaken. That is somewhat eery every time I am there.
Blizzard always makes such great games. Few games have moved me as much as Warcraft and Starcraft. I still love to play these games both online and the single player. Arthas is so cool.
This cinematic alone blows the entirety of Starcraft 2 out of the water. Real emotions are stirred by the actions a character whom we have followed throughout the campaign and whose eventual downfall has led to this tragic conclusion. Nothing even resembling the same degree of pathos is experienced anywhere in WoL.
This is the game I return to every time I get bored with the other ones. I have played it propably for thousands or even 10k+ of hours. I have met many great friends I know IRL now through this game. Oh yes. Worth buying. Worth buying indeed.
if u stand in this area (ruins of lordaeron) in WoW and turn up ur speakers u can hear the crowds cheering for the return of Arthas and in the throne room the entrance to undercity u can hear king Terenas's voice
if you stand in the hall before the throne room, mute the music, and turn ambiance up all the way you can hear cheering and whispers, and in the throne room you can hear what he says when he kills his father.
@SovietLenin1 well. You got so much lore in Warcraft its really amazing and its easy to make a movie with it. Like the war of the ancients or the second war or even the first war with medivh etc.
@trilingeskolen You hear the bell sound while standing in the room with the bell on the floor, cheering in the yard before the throne room and then the talking and killing of his dad in that room. I think, to be sure I'll have to listen to them places again.
Dat graphic.
Seriously, this cinematic graphic is way too darn good, even by nowadays standard
I know right. It still looks amazing

Ovidiu Diumea They did more than screw a story. They killed a damned good RTS series too. All to focus on their MMO instead of it's lore's source.
"This kingdom shall fall and from the ashes shall rise a new order that will shake the very foundations of the world..." (i chills and sometime goosebumps to that quote)
thus one of the greatest game villains was born.
+Irwan Haziq This quote alone alongside with the music made this my favorite blizzard cinematic by FAR!
Except nothing ever really happened cuz Sylvanis lol
Arthas is one of video games most tragic and memorable heroes. His story is the easily best part of Warcraft 3 events.
World of warcraft ruined this though

The opening music gives me chills 20 years later...
this cinematic is so good that even memers leave it alone.

True...
What about the skulls in his knee armor? Lol
King loved his son and missed him. He didn't expect Arthas, his own blood, would kill him.
2019:
King = Blizzard
Arthas = Activison
no king rules forever
:(
For the Lich Dollar!
Arthas throwing open the doors and thundering down the hallway has to be one of the best cinematic entrances ever.
You know instantly that someone's going to get hurt.
The music, especially early in the video, gives me goose bumps every single time.
I love it!
Time for my monthly watch of this masterpiece :)
Definitely one of the best cinematics in video game history....as good as it was when I first watched it back in 2002.
Can't stop watching...

I agree Jaxson Jillix
This game came out before episode 2 and 3.
you made a star wars quote and replaced anakin with arthas, of course it "sounds like its from star wars"
"This kingdom shall fall, and from the ashes shall arise a new order that will shake the very foundations of the world." - Arthas
absouteley epic!
RIP to this Blizzard.
One of the greatest endings of all time
King LK the frozen throne ending is way better
My favourite gaming cinematic EVER! It gives shivvers every time!
This is definitely the best ending cinematic of WRC3. Arthas rocks.
0:48 to 1:00 is so heartbreaking... how Arthas remembers what was it like to be human

He kept his word.
Love how Froustmourne whispers to him before he starts speaking. The Lich King is manipulating him through it.
Master Menethil , there are too many of them what are we going to do?
The music of this video its BRILLIANT its always making me cry 5 starts to all blizzard games and movies.
They couldn't do much. They were simple palace guards; Arthas had the powers of Frostmourne, and had the two death knights Falric and Marwyn with him.
At least Warcraft III: Refunded can't take this away.
This brings back SO MANY MEMORIES! I WANT WARCRAFT 3 HD

The track from the soundtrack is called "Cinematic Suite", and this is only a part of the track.

I fucking love the music in this game.
