Simple Minds have been musical pioneers for 40 glittering years. Catching the mood of the post-punk era, when the angry sounds of 1977 were splintering into a thousand different shapes, they emerged with a style rooted in the art-rock of David Bowie and the electronic dance of Donna Summer. They went on to become one of the great bands of their generation, deploying rousing choruses and booming atmospherics to provide a soundtrack that has endured. They topped the American chart with Don't You (Forget About Me) and followed suit in the UK with the Ballad Of The Streets EP (featuring Belfast Child). In selling over 60 million records, they have seen three of their 20 studio albums reach number one in the UK - Sparkle In The Rain, Once Upon A Time and Street Fighting Years - a chart-topping feat equalled by their live album Live In The City Of Light and the compilation Glittering Prize. A spellbinding touring band, they have graced the world's biggest stadiums. They starred at Live Aid and played three momentous London shows in honour of Nelson Mandela. The past decade has also seen a remarkable resurgence, their world-class credentials acknowledged by a Q magazine Inspiration award in 2014 and an Ivor Novello in 2016. They are now marking their 40th anniversary with a world tour, live album and career-spanning compilation.

I love how this band continues to reinvent themselves. A big part has been the new talent they have added. Cherisse has a great drum sound and style of play which is an amazing progression onwards from Mel (Gaynor), who was such an important part of the original sound. Come back again SM!
Cherisse is an awesome drummer. I didn’t know she was handling percussion for the band and was ready to throw some shade until I saw her doing her thing. What a serious injection of life she brings. The band sounds fresh again.
Saw you in Melbourne. So pleased that you’ve still got the sound and feel of the Simple Minds I grew up with.
I was at the 2nd Sydney Show & Simple Minds were incredible full of energy which definitely bounced off to the audience, it really was an exchange of energy. I still have wonderful memories seeing the band for the 1st time in 1986. Wishing Simple Minds all the best with the upcoming world tour 😃

Loved you at Bribie but wish we could have gotten tickets for Gold Coast as that was own show and you always give 100%. First saw you in 1986 and it was the first show we saw together. We've seen you so many times since and never have you not given everything at the show. Looking forward to next time.

I don't know. I want to like what Simple Minds is doing, but the newer songs are unavoidably bland-uptempo, yes, but bland and stationary-and it's a rather sad thing to see all these talented backing musicians trotted out to do a nostalgia show when literally there isn't a Simple Minds fan on the planet who ever thought the band became great because of the partnership between Jim and Charlie alone. It became great because of the inimitable chemistry between Jim, Charlie, Mick, Derek/John and Brian/Mel. In fact, it's really sad to see Jim and Charlie claiming to be Simple Minds without those guys, and while they might say, "Well, what were we supposed to do when all those other guys left the band," they probably ought to appreciate that a band of, say, Mick, Derek and Brian touring as Simple Minds with a replacement lead singer and a replacement guitarist would be just as disappointing. And while it might be unrealistic to expect a reunion of any "classic" lineup, it's definitely not unrealistic to expect the surviving members to avoid making a mockery of the brand. I'm tired of saying all this, but Jim and Charlie insist on claiming to be Simple Minds. They are not. That's it. Just stop it.
I hope the Robin Clark isn't singing with them! Her voice dominated the whole show, making it the worst concert I ever attened! Maybe it was the sound men who ruined it but was just aweful sounding, could barely hear Jim Kerr's vocals over hers.
Just returned from Manchester gig 16/03/24. How underwhelming Jim Kerr was. An utter faded shadow vocally. Might as well have been Bob Dylan "singing." Depressingly poor. Poor guy didn't get within even 10% of what he belted out all those years ago. Honestly got nowhere even near the range that made that catalogue the diamond that it is. Gutted. Ruined the decent performances by the drummer & supporting musicians. Awful gig.
