Had a think about this one today. My thought is that you are temporarily in survival mode (business wise) and that the first priority is to keep in the game and keep your chin up. This is what you appear to be doing anyway. You need invoices coming in paid and cashflow to ride out your present crisis until you can figure out your next moves. “The two most powerful warriors are patience and time” - Leo Tolstoy. Important as well I think is stress relief. I personally found in times of not being able to see the wood for the trees walking worked....it can be anything....simplistic/repetitive which focuses the mind on that and that alone......something related to Zen pricinciples I suspect... Autumn is around the corner when traditionally work picks up. Best of luck

Hi Shaun. I'm currently sitting in my dialysis bed so I can give your comment the attention that it deserves.
Your analysis of being in business survival mode is not only accurate but a really concise way of describing my current situation, which I wouldn't have thought about expressing in the same way.
The way that I describe it is that I am going through a transitional period, primarily due to my physical health condition. I don't know what the future will be like but I desperately want to retain the aspects that are currently working well for me. One of those aspects is the nature of this job, which is such an ideal way.to earn a living for someone with my background and personality. For the first time I genuinely feel that I understand the phrase. "If you love your job you won't work a day in your life.". For me I absolutely love this lifestyle and I am going to do everything in my power to keep doing it for as long as possible. I know that there will be a day when (for whatever reason) I won't be able to work as a same day courier and I know that at that point I will look back to these years with envy.
I am prepared to make sacrifices to survive in this moment that wouldn't necessarily make logical business sense. I have never pretended to be giving sound business advice through this channel, it has and remains just my small imprint on the world. Imperfect, messy but authentically myself.
I understand the natural response from very experienced couriers is to rail against what I do that they wouldn't do, but I am not them and they are not me.
I hope that over time these people can see and accept the differences between us, however I am not going to worry about it in the meantime (other than my natural inbuilt concerns about pleasing people. But this is just part of my initial response to any perceived criticisms both offline as well as online.).
I do find it strange how some people always seem to want others to conform to their way of seeing the world. But maybe as you previously described it's simple for some a clumsy way of communicating an important message to a wider audience. However I don't believe that this positive intention is the motivation for everyone and it's those other people that I am and will continue to challenge.
I have a simple philosophy which covers a lot of how my mind works.
      "Live and let live."
Look after yourself as well as those around you.
      Cheers ❤

Morning DM, could I mention the figures you mentioned for “standing still” not knocking you’ve done the sums
you’ve broken them down over a working week (5 days) now, I’m not going to say your van repairs will be cheaper because your only doing 3 days but there will be less wear and tear on your van, less fuel, less mileage covered, hell even less postage.😂
I personally think if you aim for those numbers you will end up stressed out or depressed.
Maybe you could re-evaluate to take some pressure off

      Hi Craig.
Thank you for another thoughtful comment. I hope that you are well my friend.
In terms of the figures, I'm very much using them as rough ballpark figures just to give me effectively the outermost costing and income needed. I feel that publishing these figures gives a reasonable expectation for new entrants of the costs that they will incur. Also it highlights just how much it does cost to run as a self employed same day courier. While I accept that other people will have variation in their own experience in terms of the costs, this isn't meant to be completely comprehensive, but I feel that the figures have some value and there's not a lot of alternative voices focusing on the financials.
To address your point directly I don't think that I can necessarily achieve the weekly target, but I want to be open and transparent. I may need to reduce my personal expenditure further or be more flexible with my working patterns or maybe just be better at bidding the best price. I feel that there are still some elastic criteria that I can amend. One example is seeing if I can earn more after the School Summer holidays are over in September. Another is trying to get regular work from local shippers. Another is fitting in local work before my dialysis. It's all a challenge that I actually enjoy.
Thank you for your concern about the pressure I am potentially putting on myself, however I don't currently see my 'target' as anything other than helpful.
I'm lying in my dialysis bed at the moment which is giving me time to write a fuller response than I would usually be able to do.
So - glass half full 😁
      Best wishes ❤

Just a quick work on Business Bank Accounts - not all business bank accounts charge fees. For example, I have a Starling Business Account which charges no fees and I am very happy with it.

    Hi,
Are you paying for your Therapy ?
My Wife works for 'Mind Mental Health Charity'
The service is free face to face or on line.
Do you think it would help you ?

    • @DeliveryMan-jdr

      Hi Kev.
Yes I am paying for it and the service you mentioned might be useful. I will look into it, but I know myself well enough to know that I will probably come up with excuses why it won't be suitable.
I like the control of being a paying punter and I think it will force me to address issues quicker and not deflect so much if I know that time is my money.
It's taken me a long time to get back into therapy and my first session today was useful. Like every person on Earth I have a complicated psychology and right now I feel that this is going to be constructive.
I realise I think that starting my TH-cam channel was probably me dipping my toe into a therapy like environment and it's taken me over a year to progress to the real version.
      Best wishes ❤.

Hi whatever you do don't run without full breakdown and recovery especially with the mileage your doing and your van getting older.

What about your 3 monthly VAT payments & Annual income Tax 🤔

    • @DeliveryMan-jdr
      @DeliveryMan-jdr  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

@@vanroamin The VAT payments come from the VAT that I charge and I mentioned the corporation tax in the video. My personal income tax is negligible unfortunately.

Also, technically, none of these costs are fixed business expenses.
