Had to stop watching. It had me choking up, when we had a real blue water navy with proper air power. If we had even one of those carriers in the Falklands, with the Gannet early warning radar systems and some real firepower like the Phantoms we would not have been mauled by the Argentine air force getting into our ships before we could block them. The faceless wonders who make these decisions never have theirs or their loved ones lives on the line.
There is no date on the film but IWM dates it from 1946-1975. This edit is a condensed version of the original film, as sold on Super 8 as a 150ft reel, so one would presume a lot of the earlier footage is not in this edit, so best guess 1970. There are shots of Eagle mixed in with this. film.iwmcollections.org.uk/record/8599?stillsgrid_8599_5011_s_e_Record_page_media_stillsgrid_interval=15&stillsgrid_8599_5011_s_e_Record_page_media_stillsgrid_page=2

I joined the Ark in the builders yard in 1955 as a killing stoker.
you lucky lucky bastard
Thank God neither of Broon's monstrosities took on the proud name of Ark Royal.
All the film we see is of Ark Royal steaming on her own. Was she with a Battlegroup?
To my knowledge a carrier is always with company, just because you don't see it, doesn't mean its not there.
When was this filmed that Gannet has a big E on it 🤔
