I ain't got nothing. This is how you do it. There is no substitute for experience, or common sense, for that matter. You mentioned jack stands, even tho you're on a lift. You da man. You do very simple smart things, like wear gloves! Mention common-sense items like "always start bolts by hand." Yeah it's common knowledge, but like sense, we're seeing less of it nowadays. Thanks for the video. I NEVER let the bozos at the dealership assembly-line my baby outta there. They could give a shit. They're paid by the "get 'em done," rather than by the "do it right."
    Much appreciated, sir. Well done.

The surface of the hub needs cleaned.thin coat of never seize added.slide bolts lubed with (ceramic extreme), as well as the backs of the pads.and the top & bottom of the caliper! this WII add LIFE and keep caliper sliding. When bleeding brakes DO NOT PUSH BRAKE PEDAL more than HALF way down to protect master cylinder

I have a 2007 of the same model. What do you look for in order to tell what exactly needs to be replaed? For example, when would you replace more than the brake pads..can you replace only the pads...or do you replace the caliper as well? Just trying to figure out what all I need to do to my truck. The brakes dont stop that well.

Appreciate the effort and all but why @ 5:40 - 5:42 did you skip completely past pad-clips and pad installation on the caliper bracket (?) especially considering it's such an important part of the entire procedure...!?...we're gonna need a redo - lol

145ft. lbs typically on 15/16 8 lugs on these 3/4ton and 1 ton trucks. The half tons are 95 ft. lbs I usually reuse the factory caliper bolts instead of the 10mm bolts the new caliper comes with. Does shop policy say you are to torque lug nuts to spec? At the very minimum, I will use a torque stick. Awesome video.

jarin wilson Kind of is a policy, sure I do not want the lug nuts falling off.

So why did you replace the calipers? They seemed ok as you were removing them?

  • @GoateeSaver
    @GoateeSaver 8 ปีที่แล้ว +3

I wish I could have seen you remove the caliper. You were standing in front of the camera when you removed them. Mine are stuck and hard to remove. I removed the two bolts and also pushed the pistons back, but I just can't get the caliper off. :(

Do it in the reverse of how he installed it? You can pry on it once the caliper pins are out.

I have hard time figure it out how to bleed it out all brakes after I put new two calipers in front. Now I got back air is out as much possible but not in front. Any suggestions?

Always start bleeding the farthest away from the master cylinder and work your way in. I have an 06 Ram 2500 4x4, so it would be right rear, left rear, right front, and left front last. Any time I have to bleed my fronts I bleed the rear first because you can end up with the "brake" light on from an un-centered proportioning valve.
If you live in a cold climate it's also good to bleed your brakes every spring because moisture can still get into your brake system. If there is air there is also moisture.
Funny, I just did front rotors, calipers, hoses, and installed an EBC Stage 5 yellowstuff kit. My right front was hanging up so I figure the heck with it I got 10yrs out of my oem calipers/rotors...

I have a Dodge Ram 1500 I just had my buddy help me put front calipers on I just realized that my bleeder screws are on the bottom part of the caliper did I completely mess up or can I still bleed it using the gravity bleed method I need help as soon as possible thank you

You can take the calipers off, put a piece of wood etc in between the pads, and turn the caliper so the bleed screw is the highest air point. Then you can bleed however you like.
Best thing would be to swap the calipers.
      Stay gold.

Never blow off the brake dust with your mouth or even compressed air, brake dust is carcinogenic. Always use brake cleaner fluid instead.

When you collapse the pistons, open the bleeder screw with a short length of tubing stuck into a clear glass jar to the bleeder nipple and collect all the old fluid. Examine it for rust/dirt, especially if the calipers are staying on. This way, the old fluid won't be reversed into the master cylinder and carry dirt/rust/debris into it, shortening it's life. Then scavenge the old fluid out of the master cylinder with a suction device or a turkey baster. Replace all the old fluid with new.
Brake fluid is alcohol based and absorbs moisture to keep water away from brake components. When it's old and very moisture saturated, the water can boil when the brakes are used heavily making the caliper "lock-up" or stick in the "on" position.
That will cause a catastrophic cook-down condition and will ruin the bearings, seals, brake lines, and possibly set the caliper paint on fire. Usually vehicles that sit a lot are prone to this condition.
Brake fluid has about a 5-10 year life depending on conditions.
I do this when I'm re-using OR replacing the calipers.
I use Mercedes /Porsche DOT 4 which is blue tinted. It's race quality and it's for
off-road use only, it's still the best there is, so I use it.

+Dan Fowler What is the brake fluide used by OME? Is it ok to "mix" brake fluids? (I have some brake fluide that goes in a BMW, will that work as well?)

DOT 3. The wet boiling point (3.7% water) is 284 degrees.
DOT 4 wet boiling point is 311 degrees.
