    I’m new to your channel and binge watching your videos! You are so inspiring! It’s a blessing to find a believer who puts herself out there for the world to see. I am blessed by your channel. I am a traditional Catholic. I’m not sure what your denomination is, but it sounds like your beliefs in the Holy Spirt because you have mentioned it. So grateful. Thank you for everything. I’ve been looking for classic books to read with a Christian base. Would love it if you, did a book episode for 2nd to 3rd grade. Thank you for everything. May God always bless you and your family!

    Love this!
    The Great Divorce and Screwtape Letters are two of my all time favorites!! Lewis always seems so far above me intellectually- I often need to reread paragraphs to grasp his main ideas, but he’s so fantastic. I actually will read out loud (in an English accent 😂😂 I’m a freak, I know) to help me retain the books better!!

      Be careful with Lewis..he was not orthodox as many believe. I'm leary to read his writings because of his beliefs on scripture and just threw away our Narnia books and movies...I felt convicted!!! Do your research. There are many occult, unbiblical elements in Narnia.

    I love the idea of dating the book. Another tip would be to create your own index in the back of the book of common themes, beautiful language, things to remember along with the page numbers. Elisabeth Elliot used to do the same thing.
    Charlotte Mason’s concept of a commonplace notebook and/or Mother’s notebook are along the same line.

    I think you'd really enjoy Towards a Philosophy of Education (Vol. 6)! Mason gets her 20 principles organized and formalized by the end (She refined some pre-war ideas by the end of her life.), which is so helpful for understanding the philosophy and, like you said, wading through the Mason content online!
    So many great books in this pile! I hope you try Till We Have Faces again. It's an excellent defense of classical education in story form!

    Thank you so much for sharing! I've recently started watching your new videos and been inspired. I got "There's No Such Thing as Bad Weather" and am excited to prioritize going outside with my 1.5 year old daughter more, especially when it's raining - I ordered some epic rain pants she recommended and can't wait for them to come in :)
    Also, our family has been convicted to reduce our tech usage over the past couple years and we finally decided to take the plunge and uninstall our TV for the month of January (with the hope to keep it this way long-term!). I have been thoughtfully trying to reconfigure our living room environment to inspire reading and play and connection, instead of the focus being a TV, so now when we look at the mantle, there's a pretty frame and a bunch of books lining the top, as well as a new corner reading nook. I will also be having more time to read these days so can't wait to dive in to some of your suggestions - definitely interested in Miracle Morning and Home Education. Thank you sister!

    Love this style video! And love a lot of the books you mentioned (especially No Such Thing as Bad Weather). I would highly reccomend reading Habits of the Household and looking into Bible Project classroom courses. They offer free Bible courses online that are absolutley phenomenal. I just finished the "Intro to the Hebrew Bible" course and it has deeply impacted the way I read and understand the OT. Makes me not only excited but also confident to read and teach scripture to my daughter. Great mind stretching content :)

    Hi Katie! Thanks so much for this video, I totally love it and looking forward to reading some of your picks! No such thing as bad weather as a statement just makes me cringe because living in Phoenix Arizona you just literally cannot take babies out in 110+ degree weather which is very typical for about 3 months out of the year 😣 although I suppose we can go swimming but it’s not practical for everyday. It’s my only complaint really about Phoenix! I’m trying to plan more indoor activities for summer months while we enjoy lots of outside time during everyone else’s winter months 😇

    • @mama_knitter
      @mama_knitter ปีที่แล้ว

      Classical and Charlotte Mason are two different education philosophies, Charlotte Mason was teaching from a classical education and kept some components but also discarded a lot of components. I’d read some books about each approach before researching curriculum so you know the philosophies behind each, as there is a ton of curricula today that claims to be classical or charlotte mason but is not and you’ll be able to identify. I’m a classical homeschooler and we’re in our fourth year of using Memoria Press, I know CM homeschoolers who use Simply Charlotte Mason and My Fathers World.

And as much as I hate to do this, I can't help it. 'Eyre' is pronounced 'air.' Mispronouncing words is a sign of being well-read. It means you read them as opposed to hearing them. I look forward to your next book video.

    C. S. Lewis's conversion to Christianity was greatly influenced by J. R. R. Tolkien, a Catholic, and although Lewis embraced many distinctively Catholic teachings, such as purgatory and the sacrament of Confession, he never formally entered the Church. Fun fact! Not sure if you guys read j. R. Tolkien books but those are fantastic.
