    That montage in the beginning was incredibly beautiful and atmospheric; the sound design and visuals are so impressive!

    That opening… wow! It felt like the beginning of a love movie with a sad ending. I was immediately drawn to the story but I felt a sense of distance lingering… Until you explained that those photos were from before your birth, and your feelings of “detachment” and “like a ghost”, it just clicked for me! Incredible, fantastic storytelling! Just wow!! 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼

    Loved this video!! The way you described the picture your dad took with the steps and your mom was great, the picture was such a good shot.
    I remember when I was younger I found my parents photobook of pictures before I existed and I remember feeling the same way you described. So crazy!
    I found your account from another video showing your film cameras because I’ve been taking pictures on disposables for years, but now looking to buy a camera! Excited to learn more from your videos!

    A unique way of presenting photography! When I think about photography, it’s about capturing reality. Yet, you managed to create a imaginative story. 👍

    I did try to post, it looks like it got lost! Anyhow, my immediate thoughts were these photos where when film was beginning to decline and digital was in ascendance. So you are lucky to have them at the time from when film was at its peak, possibly declining, possibly at its nadir. . The style is very much of capturing the moment, something that digital does now. I have film from the 70’s when we could not just take snapshots because of costs and the photos are more formal. The family photos ‘before me’ are even rarer. What will happen to our digital moment in 20 years. Glad that people like you are keeping film alive. We need analogue as well as digital. Well done, another excellent video.

    Another beautiful video, Teo. The photograph of your grandmother is lovely. The colors from the red top and sunlight are fantastic, however, the sense of joy from her smile makes this a perfect photo.

    Thanks for this Teo, truly enchanting! Some photos are just incredible, your dad had a great understanding of the visual language used in cinema, imo.
    PS: this time you nailed the video duration and presentation, much easier to watch than the previous one.

    Having negatives from before your birth is super dope. Sadly I don't have any because my dad pretty much only bought a camera because of my birth. Luckily my parents kept a lot of photo prints in albums and about 80% also still had their negatives. They mostly range from 1994 - 2001, which is pretty much the entirety of my early childhood. After that you notice them becoming less and less over time, because digital was staring to slowly take over the game, but there are still few that go up until 2010 or so. After that it's all digital, because digicams had pretty much caught up in quality and smartphone cameras were about to become the next big thing.

    Even if I take photos on film using vintage cameras, they still do not have the same vibe as the old photos. Why?

    • @teocrawford
      @teocrawford  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      This can have all sorts of reasons. Most significantly is the lighting. My parents in this video went during sunrise so the light was all romantic, warm und fuzzy. Another reason can of course the choice of film and the exposure, but I don't think my parents were shooting any special film here, so this would probably only make mild differences.
      Another big aspect is probably the scanning process. If you get you photos processed at a lab they do the scanning and editing for you and maybe they tend to set the saturation pretty low or do other settings that make the image less to your liking - you simply can't know. That's why I scan myself.
      I hope this can give you some clarity and help you find your answer... :)

    4:29 do you know what film was this photo shot on?

    • @teocrawford
      @teocrawford  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      No sadly not, but I'm pretty sure my parents just shot the average consumer film you could buy at the drug store🙌🏼
