I saw someone use this and somehow got it working to where they actually liked it, not sure how they got it brighter though. I know for sound they used external speakers like you said =)
I want to like it. And if you have a blue tooth speaker set, that might take care of that, and it does look cool, but yeah, can't see a use for it. (Another issue is needing to touch the screen in order to make any adjustments.)
I wonder if someone could find a way to use Mirrors & a bright LED light somehow with not just One lens but maybe Two lenses? I have some videos and you would want to find a way to plug your phone into the wall or a good power source if you plan on watching a lot of stuff. You as well will need to find a way of controlling your phone from another phone and when it comes to sound you will need to have a way to connect sound devices to your phone ether wired or wireless? I have noticed that you have to play the Video Upside Down which is a pain. It would be much easier if someone could find a way to make this work without having to play the video Upside Down this would be great. Making this device out of something other than Cardboard like Shoe Box would be the best so it can last longer & if you can find a way to connect your phone to other Devices such as your Computer, VCR/DVD/Blue-Ray etc players then it could be a wonderful thing. You will want most of all to find a way to control your phone remotely some how?

Something i thought of after editing.... it might be a fun way to teach about light and lenses to kids.
The only use I can see for it is if you wanted to recreate an image on the wall or canvas and use it to trace or paint said image.
