When I start a new Sketch Up project I often want to do the following: Import a pdf, scale it, lock it on its own layer. This is what I end up doing: Open Photoshop, import the PDF, export it as a jpeg, scale it, try to lock the layer, remember that this doesn't work, add some geometry, group the geometry and the jpeg, then lock the layer. Am I missing something? Is this yet another Sketch Up issue that needs a third party plug in? Happy to be corrected.
Nice quick intro. Looking forward to hearing about PDF'S. I've imported some for reference and had to go through photoshop > psd. (on windows). Also some in depth on STL types and quads vs triangles. I've been wrestling with a big hairy 1 million triangle mesh that came out of a photogrametry program. Thanks.
Hi Aarpn, I am very constantly following your sketchup square one series and am taking a lot of knowhow for my hobby projects. THANK YOU!! I am currently seriously struggling with the conversion of 2D Sketchup Model into a dimension correct and "pointles" Vector grafic for my CNC. I am using VCarve. Can you please make a quick tutorial for how to prepare and export a correct 2d project from Sketchup into a Vector Programm (whats best for mac?
Really looking forward to this series on importing files, I know that's lots I don't know or use properly. Thanks Aaron
I do not have PDF option in file import. I have 2023 version on Windows. Is this not an option on this version?

Good explanation Aaron! How about to import and paste on place on a component or a group..? Please confirm 👍
Would I be correct to say I should import a 2D plan in .dwg using 3D import? This would provide usable vectors and reliable scale, no?
Thanks, another great tutorial so well explained and easy to follow.

Check out this week's Live model (right here on YouTUbe at 12:00 Noon, MDT) as Tyson will be going over how to do that very thing!
@@SketchUp Hi Aaron, thank you very much, I understand, that it will be today at 8pm GMT (European Greenwitch Time)!!?
Thanks Aaron. I would love to be able to import .iges or .wire files from my Auto Studio software. Do you think that would ever be a possibility?
Unfortunately neither of those formats are available for import natively. You might try exporting one of the supported file formats.
Why does ".stl" file type appear twice on the import drop-down list?
Stl exporter extension...
