  • MALAYSIAN OR FILIPINO? I AM NOT 100% SURE, BUT I AM CERTAIN THIS SNACK WAS MADE BY AN AMAZING JAMA MAPUN WOMAN IN TAWI-TAWI!
This video is a beautiful day exploring the north eastern side of Mapun Island. We hop on some motor bikes and head off to explore the barangays. Along the way, we meet friendly locals, try some amazing 10 peso soup, and visit a local family who prepares a unique snack for us. "Pitawali" is a fried biscuit made using rice flour, garlic, pepper, salt, oil, and coconut milk. I heard it may actually be Malaysian inspired? But I am not certain. Anyways, this part of the Philippines is so close to Malaysia, and with so many products from the country, it wouldn't surprise me if this snack has some inspiration from there.
I really appreciated this day connecting with the locals. Mapun Island is so peaceful. You really feel at east exploring here, and it is such a beautiful part of Tawi-Tawi, Mindanao.
Such a wonderful experience cooking with Da Russa in her home.
    POWER ON!
