    I love so many subtle things about this opening.
    1. The first time the chorus drops, bond fighting a couple of goons just does something to me. It’s so hype.
    2. That Vesper goes from being the queen of hearts to spade.
    3. The last thing that happens is us seeing “007 status - confirmed” and Craig walking towards us. Fucking phenomenal.
    Also, what a movie.

      @@BarberJ95 In most card games, the Queen of Spades is often an unlucky card that yields a negative consequence. In Hearts for example, it is the most penalising card. In some variants of Crazy Eights, a game which aims to get rid of cards, the Queen of Spades forces the next player to draw more cards. The Queen of Spades is the Old Maid in the eponymous card game and in Seven Stud Poker, the Queen of Spades is the "Bitch".

      That jack card that fired a gun is obviously Bond. As the gunpoint, which is Bond's point of interest, crosses over queen card and the face we can see Vesper Lynd, so she is the queen of hearts (and Bond's love interest). But on the down side of that same card is the queen of spades which is turned upside down and spade sign looks as if the heart was pierced through the middle with something and therefore bled out and turned black - suggesting that Bond's love dies with Vesper Lynd. Piece of art intro.
      Well either that or on the down side she was secretly into black guys, so that was not heart but her ass cheeks that became black and that thing stuck in the middle... the bottom line is she's dead.

    My dad was a huge bond fan, had so many original signed posters of the sean connery classics and all the movies on dvd. He died of cancer in September 2006, 2 months before this movie came out, he was so excited to see Daniel Craig as bond. He referred to him as the "blonde bond", I saw the movie with my mum when I was 6 and I remember crying at this intro. Tbh quite an intense movie for a 6 year old but I wish he could have seen it, such a shame. Me and my mum still see all the bond movies together, saw no time to die last week. I'm sure he would have loved these movies.

    One of the most memorable cinema moments of my life, occurred when I went and saw this in theaters.
    My father was one of those "skeptics" that didn't agree with Daniel Craig being casted as Bond. He was initially against it ... I wasn't. At that point in time, Brosnan was wearing thin on me. I managed to talk my dad into going to see "CASINO ROYALE" with me, even though he was hesitant at first. That night we saw this film, was also one of the few times in my life where I was in a theater during a "round of applause" from the audience. At 3:07 to 3:12 , when that silhouette of Bond steps out of the shadows and you see him for the first time looking back at you ... the audience I was with ERUPTED in applause!!! It was quite a moment, to see a round of applause at the BEGINNING of a film ... and afterwards, my father leaned over and whispered to me - QUOTE: "I was wrong. They casted the right guy!" ... From that moment on, my father was a fan and was sold on Daniel Craig (even though Roger Moore remained his favorite), as was I.
    My dad passed away in 2018 ... and fittingly, the last film we saw together in theaters was "SPECTRE". He liked it, but didn't think it was that great ... same thing with me. We both LOVED "SKYFALL", and I'm a lil sad he didn't live to see "NO TIME TO DIE", but I'm sure he would have loved it.
    "CASINO ROYALE" (& "SPECTRE") holds a very special place in my heart, being that I was with my dad for a very special cinema moment that night. I'll never forget it ... "CASINO ROYALE" and Daniel Craig turned A LOT of heads when it came out ... my dad was one of them.

    • @jg772006
      @jg772006 2 ปีที่แล้ว +97

      @@blaze6477 ... I thought "NO TIME TO DIE" was great. Saw it twice in theaters. Written well for the most part, with a few "holes" here and there, but mostly nitpicks. Its not as good as "CASINO" or "SKYFALL", but I would take it over "QUANTUM" and "SPECTRE". Easily, at the very least, the "3rd best" of the "Craig" films, and overall, one hell of a way to conclude the "Daniel Craig era" of Bond. I wont spoil it here for anyone who hasn't seen it yet.

    • @blaze6477
      @blaze6477 2 ปีที่แล้ว +29

      @@jg772006 yeah I like it too. The villain Safin could've been a lot more better but Bond and Madeleine's chemistry was a lot better than their trainwreck of a romance in spectre. At least No time to die wasn't a dissapointing film like spectre for me at least. The action was great again unlike spectre and Ana de Armas' character was fun and I liked they brought back Felix and I liked the friendship with him and Bond. I believe its the longest Bond film but didn't feel like that at all the pacing was good for me. A good film for me too.

    • @jg772006
      @jg772006 2 ปีที่แล้ว +23

      @@blaze6477 ... I thought Craig and Seydoux had better chemistry in "NO TIME" than in "SPECTRE". Seydoux's character was somewhat rectified and improved (built upon) in "NO TIME" than in "SPECTRE". She has more to do, and the story she told Bond on the train in "SPECTRE", was essentially in the opening prologue of "NO TIME". So they built on her character well. Of all the Bond girls Craig worked with in his five films, the one he had the best and most chemistry with, was clearly Eva Green as "Vesper" in "CASINO". Its not even close. I did like how in "NO TIME", the Craig films went back to its 'beginning roots', by having "NO TIME" really start at Vesper's tomb. It was a nice touch.
      Still, there are a few mistakes (nitpicks) here and there if you go back to previous films ... Example:
      - In "SPECTRE", when Bond confronts Mr. White and guesses whom he's protecting, his first guess is his wife, to which Mr. White replies - "She Left Long Ago."
      - In "NO TIME", she doesn't "leave him" ... she gets killed by Safin (unless White married someone else)
      There's a few more "nitpicks" and "holes", but nothing to blow over about. Overall IMO ... "CASINO", "SKYFALL" (I absolutely ADORE "SKYFALL"), and "NO TIME" I think will go down as the 3 classics of the "Craig era". I have my problems with "SPECTRE", but its still watchable and tolerable ... while "QUANTUM", despite a few "hits" in it (opening car chase ... opera scene ... blatant "Goldfinger" reference), is overall sloppy, choppy, and messy. Easily the weakest one of the Craig films.

      Dan Lavra have you ever read james bond novels? The guy was pretty un-suave (at first). Blunt killing and barely surviving is more like it in the book casino royale. I personally think that Casino Royale is a great film and the best Bond i've ever watched, precicely because it does not have this forced "oh I'm shooting and fighting, yet I'm sooo cool" of the older Bonds and it still manages to not be so straight forward like the novel. And Craig finally looks and acts like i would imagine a top notch special agent: very strong physique and little sentiment concerning his job, but none of that "cool & smooth agent" stuff.

    • @danlavra1999
      @danlavra1999 9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I did read like the beginning 5 or so of the novels, but the novels aren't what made the series big; it was the movies. I understand Casino Royale being more violent because this is his beginnings and they're setting his persona up but the other two don't really have excuses. They are just catering to the modern worlds love of explosions and violence in movies and ruining a great series while doing it. Plus, Bond is all about the cool and smooth agent, he is fantasy, not many people enjoy the real, hence why we have movies. If you took away the action and just left Craig as Bond, he has no depth, no emotion, he is boring, that is why they had to add in all the dramatic explosions and violence. Sean Connery will always be the best Bond, he nailed the role. And Kyle....he is not Blonde, no idea where you get that from because he has very dark brown hair. Craig is the first Blonde Bond.

    The opening that defined my middle childhood. I was in the 7th grade and I was almost alone, hated by all of my classmates, I was unconfident and anxious, and I was really starting to think that I'm a sucker. But I had a contact in another class (because after primary school we were separated when given a choice in which class we want to go depending on the subject this class was dedicated, and this guy and me went different ways), a class which I knew since 5th grade could be my salvation, but because of my anxiety and unconfidence, I was afraid to try and acquaint with the rest of that class, because I thought I'm too insignificant (added up, their class was considered more elite than the one I was in). At that time, I of course had to entertain myself on my own, so I came up with an idea of watching something and I recalled that I was trying to watch Bond movies in 5th grade, but I wasn't enlightened enough to understand them, but this time in 7th grade I decided I will watch them all shortly, and I started with Casino Royale. And this movie with this particular opening has made me become so much more confident and standing-up for myself I couldn't even believe it myself, and I easily made friends with a lot of guys from that class, busting my cunt classmates' faces by showing who I really am and changing my life completely. By a miracle, this opening features a close shot of someone typing "James Bond - 007 status confirmed", and the class I made friends with was named "7B" (well you know like just a code name, like an address), so I edited this shot a little bit, so it looked like "007B status confirmed" and posted this photo as my profile picture in a social network. Man that was amazing

      And it's best that way, Chris' song was to hype you up that you're ready for the very first Bond movie from Craig. Same goes to Alicia Keys and Jack White's song as the second Bond song eventhough i didn't like the song that much but i can see what both Alicia and Jack were going, then came Adele, Sam Smith and Billie Eilish in which their songs can make you sad because of Bond's situation where he's kinda retired, almost dying or the end of era. Each movie have a different tone and vibes, Skyfall was the one that kept the tone down a bit for the rest of the movie

    to me, casino royale truly embodies what it means to be "back to the basics". with a series so famous for its action sequences and wild imaginations, the climax of this firm simply centers on two non-action scenes, one being on a poker table and the other in a room of two leading roles unfolding dialogs (oh and there's some torture to the balls btw). no gadgets, no nothing. everything about this film is perfect. pacing, casting, story and screenplay. even this opening title was so damn iconic. i saw it in the theater. i am still blown away till this day.

    I think the reason this is my favorite Bond intro is that it seems to be the best interpretation of Bond's mind, in my opinion. It's a colorful rendition of the mechanical workings of the handgun, and a montage of brutal death scenes -- Bond's primary interests. Note how the universe is displayed in terms of a card game -- a bit of skill, a little bit of luck, which I think would perfectly describe Bond's view on how to survive in the world. It's also interesting that the biggest difference between this and pretty much all the other Bond intros is the almost complete absence of women (or more accurately, feminized bodies, since Bond treats the vast majority of them as little more than objects or diversions and that's exactly what they serve in the intros) except for a very, very brief flash of an actual real human face, the only real face besides his own that appears here, that of the only woman he ever actually loved (at least in the reboot, I've always secretly enjoyed OHMSS and it's still the most 'human' interpretation of Bond in my opinion).

      It was also to account for essentially rebooting the franchise with this film, they clearly chose a different style to drive home that it's not the same bond universe anymore. In the black and white portion at the start he is not yet a 00 agent. The opening shows his 007 status confirmed, but it's set in modern times and obviously not before Dr. No any longer. So it's a subtle reboot :v Also the film doesn't use the "Dum diddy dum dum" James Bond Theme Tune until the final credits.

      Projectile But that's what this new franchise has done to all the 007 trademarks - it has kept them but reinvented them anew for us - for example, the final line in Casino Royale is the same as the first in Dr. No - i.e. the famous, "Bond...James Bond". I had goose-bumps when the film finished on that!

    This was Daniel Craig's first outing as Bond. He is now regarded as possibly the best Bond since Sean Connery, but I remember his selection for the role was met with much derision at the time. The last 30 seconds of this title sequence says it all. It's a true message of 'up yours'to his venomous critics. Now you do know his name.

      Apparently people were calling him James Blonde or James Bland.

      I remember going with a cynical outlook to the movie theater to see this movie, thinking why the heck would a blonde guy be cast as James Bond? Once I saw the opening 3:40 black & white scene, I wasn't asking why. Daniel Craig absolutely owned the role and was everything I wanted to see in a James Bond. The movie itself is simply terrific. My favorite James Bond movie of all time and Daniel Craig is my favorite as well. Kudos to the script/movie direction that kept the gadgets to a minimum and played up the camera angles to tell an excellent story.!

      Its because bond was described as having brown hair and dark eyes in the book, and daniel craig is literally the exact opposite of that description

    I still remember the excitement seeing this in the theatre being a crazy Chris Cornell fan! I'll never forget it!

    Love it that the '007 status confirmed' moment towards the end is lots of tiny clubs.

    16 year old me was a Craig doubter up until this sequence ended, after which I was 100% a humbled believer. The absolute classiest and coolest opening 007 sequence for the absolute best 007 film - and my favorite Bond actor

    #1: Casino Royale
    #2: Skyfall
    #3: Spectre
    #4: Quantam of Solace (people say Quantam of Shit but I actually throughly enjoyed, I just didn't like it as much as the others)

      Thank you, What most people don't relize of about Quantam of Solace is that the production was a nightmare hell the crew was suprised they got the film released

      I agree with this list. Spectre was a disappointment though. The connect the dots theme felt shoe-horned in.

    This is one of the best songs ever, not even just a bond song. The complexities and depth is great, you notice something new each time you sisten: it could be the shrill rasp of sheet metal, a few hidden notes from a violin or just the great singing voice sounding better each time you listen.

    This film should have had a bad joke like "play your cards right", "the house is full", "I've got an ace up my sleeve" "the odds are stacked", or let's club together"
