Got an 08 2500hd ltz z71 6.0 with 68k...Drove it across 4 States once, a few short trips and to work less than 2 miles sort of (I also have a 14 lex Gs350 great car too) . Finally putting in some tlc. In the process of putting a new head unit then repainting under carriage, reg maintenance, mf muffler etc. One of the best upgrades was the center console tray 😉. That's how good this truck is. Had it bone stock since day 1 when I first got it 10/2007. Almost made a huge mistake and sold it to get the new tundra trd pro because I did not think the new silverados where as tough anymore, but could not pull the trigger. Theyre very common so parts are dirt cheap and readily available. Just retired my 2007 at 260k, live in the northeast so rust o' plenty but still runs well, tranny went. Was troublesome at first, burned a quart every 1000 miles, fouled plugs every 10k, lifters went at 160k, I did lifter job, afm delete, and relocated pcv with aftermarket valve cover. 100k trouble free ever since. No fouled plugs and minimal oil use, about a quart every 3.5k. For anyone buying one I would suggest a catch can and afm delete, diablosport makes a good one plugs into obd port, that's what I used, these simple mods and regular maintenance I don't see why 300k can't be reached. I believe my tranny went because of a couple times I had to get home in limp mode when plugs would foul. Brutal on drive train. Full line pressure in the tranny when in limp, jar the teeth right out of your head. Even in 2023 I think the afm still has problems

I would STAY AWAY from newer GM trucks and vehicles in general. They use to make some good vehicles (3800 engine & 800 series trucks & SUVS) but their newer stuff is less than reliable. There is a reason GM vehicles are cheaper than Toyotas and Hondas. Buyer beware when it come to GM.

    • @jimibreeze

Larger diameter tires will have the effect of making your final drive ratio HIGHER affecting your engines RPM. Usually this means the engine is not operating with all available torque, suffering gas mileage and loss of power.
After my gear swap my truck is running much better with the larger tires than stock factory sized tires.

Run the air pressure listed on the sidewalk of the tire. It helps with fuel economy and tire life. If doing long distance towing, add an auxiliary transmission cooler. There is no way to set the tow capacity with 4:10 gears, too much depends on the trailer. Just watch the tongue weight when loading the trailer (why a lot of RVs use a load leveler hitch).

I notice the air psi printed on the tires always list MAX pressure.

Some might say that making a video about a 100 thousand mile vehicle is stupid
Well most of these new 8 and 10 speed transmissions they are not going to even go no 100 thousand miles. They won't because they have too many parts in them. Too many things to fail. And the new engines are junk as well. We got a couple of new Corvette's that have smoked engines in less than a thousand miles. And that technology is in these trucks as well. And the designers and engineers know it

@@jimibreeze Hopefully you make it that far. Some do. Some don't. As stated in my other posts, anyone who buys anything with AFM is really rolling the dice. And as Gregory said, the newer transmissions GM has been using (8 speed, 10 speed, etc) have been problematic.
The 1st generation of these trucks & SUVs (800 Series GMT...Silverado, Sierra, Taho & Yukon) are simpler and more reliable. Lower mileage ones are getting more and more expensive even though older bc they are proven to be reliable with less issues. I'm starying FAR away from amost all newer GM products. About the ONLY GM product I would purchase that is newer is a used 2500 HD. Those have no AFM on them and a reliable six speed transmission.
Good luck with your's. Keep changing your oil frequently as that seems to help with the AFM issue. And get the electronic delete you plug into your OBD port to delete the AFM as soon as possible.

800 series are more reliable than the newer ones. Look up all the problems associated with Active Fuel Management (AFM) destroying engines.
As they added more and more gears to the transmission over the years they are also known to have problems. The transmission implodes.
I would look for a low mileage pre-2007, called the 800 series truck or SUV, Silverado, Sierra, Tahoe, Yukon, before buying anything newer from GM. You are rolling the dice with anything newer from GM.
The only newer truck I would purchase from GM is a 2500 HD. No AFM and reliable six speed transmission.
Do your research. There is a VERY GOOD reason the newer GM trucks are less expensive. Because they are garbage.
100k miles is not a lot of miles. And this guy has been lucky so far. From reading the comments, he wasnt even aware what the Active Fuel Management (AFM) is or the problems associated with it.

Till they bring back the cast iron engine ... Chevy engines are second rate.

Loosing weight is all in the quest for better fuel mileage. I don't think we will see cast iron engine blocks in passenger trucks much longer, we will probably more electric motor driven trucks. Someday the 2010 model years trucks will be referred to as classics.

I have a 2017 Z71, with the 6.2. Have had a total engine rebuild, due to AFM lifter failure. Two 8 speed transmissions, due to torque converter failure. Aero louvers stuck open. Brake failure at low speed. Leaf springs were replaced, due to wrong ones. Front drive shaft to the front differential fell off. AC condenser leaked all the freon out. And the interior electronics has never worked right. This is the type of bullshit to be expected. When a private sector company. Is run by the government.
