  • On june 11th, 1976 a very special concert took place in the studio's of the dutch TROS tv-programme "Music all Inn". The audience witnessed a great concert of Gladys Knight and (her family group) the Pips, and as a special guest starred Al Foster, the drummer who played for a long time with Miles Davis. Here Gladys performs "Midnight train to Georgia". Songwriter Jim Weatherly created this song, that was originally titled "Midnight plane to Houston". Starlett (and the later actress) Farah Fawcett was on the phone with Jimmy, when she suddenly said she had no time, because she had to take the plane to Houston"... The song was inspired by the story of Fawcett and her friend/husband Lee Majors. Short story: a girl comes to L.A., doesn;t make it and takes a plane home. The guy accompanies her. The song was an instant success, but became really famous when Gladys Knight and the Pips recorded it as :Midnight train to Georgia".

I played tenor sax on tour with them for 3 weeks. in 1968. One of the most memorable, soulful experience in my 60 year career! Also the way they dealt with the racist behaviour in small town airports. For example, Missoula, Montana. They are beautiful people who shared their time with me, a young white boy coming up.

GREAT. When eby was young. Now eby is old. Or dead. Is no more. The olympix in Montreal, Björn Borg @ Wimble .. the next year disco ruled the scene by raping it. 5 years of musical stupidity followed. Ruled by greedy industry expectations, dressed up to get messed up (by Roomful Of Blues) - camouflaged to be flingy & cool thru a constant high that contributed mostly just artistic monotony and below-mediocre, repetitious, snorted out lies that short-circuited soon. But it was played by genuine musicians, arranged by cunning arranger calculations - not by inane, insane machines as it was to be from 1984 onwards. What a time to be alive ...ntm "young, gifted & black" as if the Lady here ...the rainy nites in Ga. every once in awhile were the rule of the day ..
Greetings from a non-a-Buckhead boy from way up ...nea-hea ; definitively NOT a Native Naw Yawker .... the Northsea s early years were irreplaceable, historical.. hot, sweaty & jam-packed ! 84 was the 1st x pers sp 🇫🇮
