Sorry to hear it sounds like they didn't stick this one with you. I quite enjoyed the novel. I interviewed the author, Steve Allen, for Cemetery Dance magazine and set up a book signing for him at my local Barnes and Noble. He actually sold the movie rights to Meg first, which caused a bidding war for the novel. The movie got delayed many years- he says because Mighty Joe Young bombed-- but it finally came out. I'm sure he's thrilled the sequel got out as well. He actually named the commissioner of MLB after me in his third Meg novel, Primal Waters. This is one I have to see, so I hope it works for me.

I really enjoyed The Meg 2, but I also enjoyed the first. Maybe that's key. If you enjoyed the first film, you're more likely to enjoy the second. If you didn't like the first, it's probably unlikely you'll enjoy the second. And I'm definitely not saying that if you like The Meg, you'll enjoy The Meg 2. Only an idiot would think that's what I'm saying. I also feel like they upped the action in this one. I didn't think it was boring at all. I liked that they had Statham (and others) have actual fight scenes against people, which was lacking in the first film. Some of the dialogue WAS cringe, but that's true for the first as well. I thought it took what worked in the first and upped it.
Also, they went against 2 Megs in the first film, not one.

The very best thing for me about The Meg 2 movie for me?? I don't watch a lot of TV commercials, so me running across a trailer for it was about a .05% chance.
So it was to my surprise when I went to the movies and saw it advertised...... So that's what we went into to see. My 6yr old daughter is into sharks, so I thought that this might be kinda good for her. After about 30mins of movie and my daughter asking me where are the sharks daddy? I was getting a little on edge and thinking this was a really bad idea. Next thing I know my daughter climbs over into my lap and crashes out.
I think I am with everyone else on this movie. They needed more shark and less everything else. It was almost like The Dark Knight Rises. You got a 2 and a half hour movie and 20 miss of Batman!!! I went to see a Batman movie and got a wild love story???
Anyway I think they could have done a lot more with this movie. They didn't have rush in with Jason saving the day immediately like at the end. But this is my opinion and from what my wife says about my opinion, it doesn't mean crapola!!!!

I haven't seen this film yet, but honestly there was no need for a sequel..

The movie could have been better if it really focused on the idea of the trench itself, since I think the suggestion was that prehistoric creatures including the Meg had survived in the deep unnoticed by people. I would prefer the team in the submersible having to do battle the monsters they encounter deep in the trench. Yet it turned out that unknown to them some evil corporation had already built a full-sized station there (how?) doing illegal mining, and in doing so somehow released all those prehistoric monsters. We know nothing about most of the team at all, which actually did not matter much, since it was obvious all except the main characters would be killed or eaten before the submersible reached the surface again. The movie not only copied ideas from other movies, but actually also copied from itself, and the last part was almost an exact copy of the first film, in that the Megs invaded a beach or coastal resort filled with people on vacation and you have the carnage all over again. The only difference was that now there were not only Megs but also other monsters including a giant octopus. In addition, the battle was carried onto land with Komodo-like creatures that could run as fast as cars. I guess in any sequel, the movie would be called "Megnado" with the battle continuing in the air.

My understanding is that the movies are so tame because they're Chinese co-productions and they need to pass the censor boards over there.

i found the daughter to be so annoying , not listening to her dad every time he told her to do something that was clearly for her safety and Statham has 100 chances to kill the bad guy but he doesn’t which ends up with a lot of dead people!!!

I enjoyed the second half quite a bit, but definitely a big missed opportunity. Should have condensed the first hour into like 20 minutes, and just have more monster mayhem (with more than just the 3 species we got)
