Sorry to hear it sounds like they didn't stick this one with you. I quite enjoyed the novel. I interviewed the author, Steve Allen, for Cemetery Dance magazine and set up a book signing for him at my local Barnes and Noble. He actually sold the movie rights to Meg first, which caused a bidding war for the novel. The movie got delayed many years- he says because Mighty Joe Young bombed-- but it finally came out. I'm sure he's thrilled the sequel got out as well. He actually named the commissioner of MLB after me in his third Meg novel, Primal Waters. This is one I have to see, so I hope it works for me.

I really enjoyed The Meg 2, but I also enjoyed the first. Maybe that's key. If you enjoyed the first film, you're more likely to enjoy the second. If you didn't like the first, it's probably unlikely you'll enjoy the second. And I'm definitely not saying that if you like The Meg, you'll enjoy The Meg 2. Only an idiot would think that's what I'm saying. I also feel like they upped the action in this one. I didn't think it was boring at all. I liked that they had Statham (and others) have actual fight scenes against people, which was lacking in the first film. Some of the dialogue WAS cringe, but that's true for the first as well. I thought it took what worked in the first and upped it.
Also, they went against 2 Megs in the first film, not one.

The very best thing for me about The Meg 2 movie for me?? I don't watch a lot of TV commercials, so me running across a trailer for it was about a .05% chance.
So it was to my surprise when I went to the movies and saw it advertised...... So that's what we went into to see. My 6yr old daughter is into sharks, so I thought that this might be kinda good for her. After about 30mins of movie and my daughter asking me where are the sharks daddy? I was getting a little on edge and thinking this was a really bad idea. Next thing I know my daughter climbs over into my lap and crashes out.
I think I am with everyone else on this movie. They needed more shark and less everything else. It was almost like The Dark Knight Rises. You got a 2 and a half hour movie and 20 miss of Batman!!! I went to see a Batman movie and got a wild love story???
Anyway I think they could have done a lot more with this movie. They didn't have rush in with Jason saving the day immediately like at the end. But this is my opinion and from what my wife says about my opinion, it doesn't mean crapola!!!!

Honestly, I preferred this movie to the original. I felt that this one was more consistently fun and exciting, even if the action wasn't always meg-centric. I enjoyed how many obstacles they brought to bear: the expected megs, a giant octopus, killer salamanders, eco-pirates, you name it. And I thought the characters (and especially the actors) were likable. Yes, the dialogue was pretty trash, but it's an action movie: Whatcha gonna do?

I skipped the first the first one. I mean other than the first 2 Jaws movies, not much of a shark fan, and this sounds like another skip for me. Heck, I didn't even know there was a second one until last night when I saw your short. But I do agree, tuning down the carnage candy, I wouldn't think it would put butts in seats, but we shall see. Doubt Barbenheimer has anything to worry about with this movie. Anyways, enjoyed this. Thank you, Cody.

This was not a good movie. But. I went with friends and we laughed so hard watching this. For all the wrong reasons, but I had several good chuckles with it. So I was entertained. Do not feel ripped off. Would have liked more shark carnage or kraken carnage from a shark movie, but I will take what I got.
