I test drove one recently and wasn't disappointed. It is in compact SUV segment that gives you high seating position and decent ground clearance though don't leave the paved road as it is not built for that. Acceleration and braking is decent. You can tweak the steering, regenerative braking and three drive mode settings a bit to your liking but it is not a sports performance car. Only long term ownership can highlight any problems with durability or overall build quality. Warranty and capped price service seems ok.
It seats four adults in total comfort, five might be a stretch especially for longer drives. The rear view from centre mirror is bit narrow (compared to camry) but 360 degree view camera and panoramic roof more than makes up for it. Side mirrors, windows and seats can be adjusted electronically.
Haven't checked the Apple carplay/Android auto connectivity but it should work as intended. The swivelling display in the middle between portrait/landscape mode is a cool feature to impress your friends. Overall Atto3 seems like good value for money given the rising fuel prices and growing concerns about environment.
This car doesn't support Apple nor Android auto as this is from China after all. So no navigation system neither 😕
@@michaellam5355 Dealership says they are working on the software update. Should be with the new shipment arriving on November
'Chasing Cars' review confirmed after speaking to the CEO that wired Apple Carplay/Android Auto will be available via software update. Lot of people rely on google maps/waze for navigation. That pretty screen in the middle would be quite useless without it.
@@pastachannel1193 The dlink car system itself is an Android system. There are two usb ports under the gear handle. You can install any Android application through a USB flash drive. Because Chinese cybersecurity companies always monitor US attacks, all Chinese automakers do not install Google apps.
In China, Tesla is barred from government premises. China's own car privacy security policy also prohibits the remote car recorder function of domestic Chinese brand cars.
And the new policy started on October 1st, all car and machine IoT cards must be real-named.
The recent firmware update in late September already included navigation (Google maps), Spotify, and voice assist. Google /Apple carplay should arrive later this year.
This color looks great! First time to see it reviewed in white. Car seems promising. This is better than the BYD Dolphin though priced a bit higher but it has great ride height and materials inside and out make up for it

I think BYD Atto 3 sold 480 vehicles in August with in one month, ranking NO 2 for EV cars, just little bit less than Tesla Model 3. In China, same model called Yuan Plus sold 170,000 in August, ranking No 1 apparently. Bought mine after test drive 2weeks ago at Euromarque Christchurch, should arrive around November. Can’t wait to drive it daily. The driving experience, building quality, and value is way better than Tesla model 3. You got to go for a test drive.

I'm just wondering about one thing as I haven't been able to find any videos dedicated to this but have you tested the lane assist function and if so how well does it work?
Thanks for watching, it works well and not too aggressive. In fact all the driver assist functions are just about the right amount of intervention
I was expecting an appliance pre test drive, but it's an impressive package for the money, keeping the STi and looking forward to the new BYD daily driver arriving in October

towing is a bad idea in an EV.
No current details or expectation on towing capabilities in NZ but Aus has made the following statement - Towing and roof racks have been designed and produced in Aus. The ATTO 3 has a braked rating of 750kg and a tow pack and rack will be available this year
they should have recording for ALL cameras
when the car is Off or not driving or go out shopping.

Yeah but you can also power your washing machine from the charge point (we couldn't carry it though to show) :)

@@TarmacLife They could have included an AC outlet at the back storage area of the car and power it from the battery. Then a small fridge and microwave can be stored and plugged in there. For a road trip, it will be very convenient this way without plugging appliances from the front. It will be so nice to be able to make an espresso during a break from the long drive.

@@DJAVIV123 We didn't really do a real world week but it's not far off the reported when we measured it
When I collected mine and drove it home to Whakatane from Hamilton I did 270km on 55% of the battery which included a fairly brisk run up the Kaimais, one person on board. That extrapolates out to a bit better than the advertised 420km on a tankful of electrons. Then we did a run to Palmerston North a while back, 4 adults plus baggage we seemed to be getting around 300km on a tankful. Average running around home, mixed town and country is comfortably matching the claimed 420km. I've been able to get close on 500km with mainly town running.
What's the NCAP safety rating on it?
It has a 5 star ANCAP
now BYD is making more electric buses for Canada and America from California ...

It should be the dealer's reason, BYD itself should be no problem.
As far as I know, Australia's lithium mine suppliers have severely pitted Chinese battery suppliers (including BYD), and the resulting increase in costs is also one of the reasons.
It might be the “dealer’s reason” and maybe lithium has become more expensive (let’s face it, earlier cheap prices for those minerals were never going to stay around without very significant increased investment in battery critical mineral development) but ultimately the support to buyers with care, servicing and warranty backup will, I think, make or break the real success for the brand in Australia.
100% it’s the EVdirect or Eagers that stuffed it up.
The argument that this or that wears out or is expensive is BS as the warranty in NZ just across the pond is a blanket warranty, like it was meant to be here. This would competes with MG, KIA etc that all have 7 years plus warrenties.
A shame about the interior, don’t think that design will age well. Otherwise looks an ok car for the money.

I'm just wondering why the NZ price is now $10k more than the Aussie price? Certainly doesn't seem right considering they're exactly the same model? The Atto 3 we drove was very unstable under acceleration probably due to the terrible tyres that were meant to be Continentals. I hope the importer & dealers don't ruin the perception of incoming Chinese EVs with the buying public by hiking prices & skimping on decent spec features? Disappointing
