The course was laid out by my great great grandfather young Willie Dunn. Loved this course and the history behind it. I am William Dunn the fifth and I played it with my father Willie Dunn the 4th and one day soon I hope to take my son, William Dunn the 6th with me to play it too.
I know that’s false. And evidence for the average viewer, you are supposedly responding in the middle of the night 😂 (time in England). Come on. Show respect for the actual creator.
I grew up with the impression of golf as this super rich persons thing with stuffy private clubs. As a new player, the experience has been the exact opposite. Members have been super welcoming, every random player I've walked with has been great and the atmosphere is generally just awesome. The price of my golf membership is about as expensive as a regular gym membership. When I see these perfectly manicured walled gardens where you have to spend 5 years on a waiting list after being vouched for by a member I get the feeling that the club is more about status than golf.
i can't speak to where you live, but country club membership where I live is exactly the awful scenario you've described, and clublink is more of the same. I never thought I'd be a golfer but fell deeply in love a year and a half ago when the context suddenly made sense for me (walking in a park with friends doing an activity because men are bad at expressing emotions) but golf is expensive as fuck, and I go to equinox.
I am a dog walker and walk my dogs in Wimbledon common everyday, I am also a very keen golfer and love the combination of golf and dogs! Another great job Eric, wish I had known you were coming would have been great to meet you!
Loved the Royal Wimbledon guy just totally conforming to the worst golf stereotypes. It's actually great that those places exist because the rest of us normal people can easily spot and avoid them 🤣
But also just like a gym you can only have so many people making use of the coarse equipment at once. You would not want to pay 5K a year and find you cant get on the treadmill for 3 weeks.

Real shame about royal Wimbledon’s approach to this episode. I was in their pro shop a few weeks and they where really nice and helpful chaps. Abit of an own goal by that fella….🤦♂️
Another great film Erik! Played there a few times with mates that live in London, great track and with the walkers makes it more interesting! Had my most interesting shot and longest drive there.. the par 5 over the ravine nr the windmill.. fairway clear, I tee’d off.. ball going right, a lady with a long wax coat on came out of the bushes, ball pitched and went straight in her pocket without realising and she kept walking… I grabbed my bag, chased down the fairway, got to her… she looked at me strange when I said “you have my ball in your pocket”.. but she removed it and I suggested she just threw it back onto the fairway.. 400+ yard drive!
Brilliant! Same hole a couple of years ago I sliced one right into the trees. Whilst crossing the ravine a dog came out of the woods with the ball in its mouth and dropped it in the middle of the fairway
@@LeelssDelta hahaha! I did think about it… outside influence or something it would come under I guess!! I was going to ask her to drop it on the green near the hole… but thought that was a tad much!
Private clubs are the worst for the expansion of golf. You do a great job of highlighting the barriers of the game as well as the accessibility of the game.
@@stuartstogdill2406 how are young people supposed to get 'in to' golf at a private club unless someone they know is a member or they have very rich parents? Council courses here in Scotland do a much better job of offering young people huge discounts, free lessons and free club hire, alongside a more welcoming clientele of honest, hard-working folks who actually want to see more kids on their course. Every time I played a private course as a teenager or young adult I was always made to feel inferior, or as though I wasn't supposed to be there, not exactly the kind of atmosphere that'll grow the game.

Ok team, Another phenomenal video. Would love to see some content from Canada. East coast of Canada would be incredible, some true gems out there and the people are some of the friendliest people in our country.
Ive been keeping up with AIG now for about 4 years and hands down this is the best episode yet. Im amazed at how well put together each episode has been. They just keep getting better and better. This is deff my personal Top 5! (The others being 96 holes in a day, that course deep in the woods i think that was NORCAL or Oregon?, the hidden old Old Tom Morris, and then the Northern most course in Norway was it?) I remember the Australian courses and cant imagine having to play on sand, but this here on Common land peaks my interest even more so. Take a drive and yell fore and hope a dog doesn't steal your ball.
I have played London Scottish often and couldn’t recommend it highly enough. They have a Winter Open that, in mid February, is for many in Surrey and the Home Counties is the start of the years competitive play, and is always at full capacity (around 100 entrants teeing off on a cold winters dawn and finishing in the brisk early sunset, followed by a hearty bowl of home cooked heaven served hot and generously and a well deserved pint of something restorative), is astonishing value - apply if you can! With its fast draining, firm and undulating greens, and beautiful but highly challenging par threes, and the the quirkiness, welcome, food, atmosphere and character of this course and clubhouse, few would disagree that this is a special place in the hearts of those of us who are lucky enough to play this ancient links.
When we were kids in the 80s my dad took us to this park out in the desert in the mojave. We were playing in the sand and hvng a picnic when 2 gentlemen walked up ro us and told us we were in their line of sight lol. Never forget. Ive been a golfer ever since.
I play at this lovely course - Wimbledon Common Golf Club. On the whole the video shows the course off very well, but I would say it overstates the dog walkers issue - there are a couple of shots that makes it look like the place is overrun, when it really isn't. We have a code of conduct for dog walkers as well as golfers (not sure how many people have read it though!). On a Saturday morning, you can get a 4-ball round in about 4 hours, including a few 'waits' on the tee. Most walkers are friendly, a small handful don't want us there and go out of their way to obstruct, but the fact that golf has been played there continuously for 150+ years speaks volumes about our claim to remain there! After lockdown was challenging when the people of Wimbledon had spent 4 months having the whole course to wander over uninterrupted - many people had recently discovered it and when golf resumed they had no idea about golf. We had volunteer marshalls to explain and guide people and in fact many regular walkers said it was lovely to have us back.
Thank for taking us on these adventures. Pretty crazy seeing dogs on the golf course. Seattle has threatened to take a public golf course and make it a park. Now may be the could do something similar to this course.
I had to come back here after yesterday's video on the RGC channel, that "Oh Boy" From Eric after the first tee shot took on an all different meaning :) keep on with the great work guys! All the best from Belgium!
Great tour of very interesting clubs. As to waiting five years to get into a club, that's not about golf. I work on a municipal 18 hole par 3 short course, 53 Yds.-- 193 Yds. No sand or water but lots of dogs. Totally relaxed, great for beginners and those that want to practice their short game. Real golf.
Can't believe you went there!! When i started playing golf 7 years ago 'London Scottish' is the first golf club i ever joined - Wow you brought back all the memories.
So one club, doesn’t like the other club because they were there first. The second club doesn’t like the first club because it’s a men drinking club. Both clubs don’t like the pedestrians and the pedestrians don’t like either of the clubs. Then there is the royal club that doesn’t want any of it. …and yet somehow it works for everyone - beautiful!
I will 100% pack my golf clubs next time I have a chance to visit London to go play here. What a fascinating golf course!! And I love Wimbledon Common making it a point to be more inclusive. And hey, I love playing golf but if it's public land, other citizens should b able to use it!

Floored and stunned by the quality of this channel. I don’t think Anthony Bourdain would mind this being compared to his travels and shows. I feel like some inspiration was found in him as well.

Erik, fantastic content, thanks. Another course on common land is Tavistock GC in Devon, a few dogs, a lot of sheep and ponies, its great and well worth a visit :)
Geat Video! I remember the red shirts! I grew up around Wimbledon Common (When The Wombles were Top Of The Pops). Royal Wimbledon is the best golf course. My Dad was an Artisan Member there. They got a reduced rate to help maintain the golf course, which is exceptional! If you're able to actually play it! Wimbledon Park Golf Club is/was also on the common but it was sold to The Wimbledon Tennis Club to expand their parking for the tennis tournament.
Great video, very well made and technically it looks and sounds so good. The shared course looks like fun and both clubs have something going for them, as for the private club, well that's how golf ended up with such a bad reputation as a rich mans sport, five year wait to join a course and i thought the guys attitude spoke volumes. I know which club i would like to be a member of.Thanks again for making such an interesting and thoughtful review of an interesting golf course.
Great video. There are actually a few courses like this not so far from Wimbledon Common, namely Mitcham GC and Epsom Downs GC (you get great views over London playing the latter). Epsom is, however, a nightmare, as it gets busy with not only dog walkers who are actually not too bad, but others who simply wander around. In the summer, I've seen families eating picnics in the middle of the 5th and 6th fairways!
What a great video, absolutely loved playing here in the past 👏 truly unique and in amazing condition for a course with just one (and a half) greenkeepers
WOW! London is not that far away from me, and I never know the History f the two clubs, some really interesting facts there Eric, thank you for your Vlog.
Thanks for bringing this course to my attention Erik. I live twenty miles away and have never heard of it. I think I can see why, based on some of the courses in that twenty miles!
This reminds me a lot of a typical disc golf course placement in a public park. Often have to keep in mind the other people that are there to enjoy the park as well.
Is sponsored by United and is surprised when people travel to the courses he goes to. But seriously this show is insanely interesting and I love it. Keep up the great work Erik!
You should check out Braid hills in Edinburgh. 4 golf clubs share the course with the public. There used to be two 18 hole courses with a pub in the middle. Now the pub is gone and there is only an 18 and a 9 hole but it is actually the place where the Honourable Company were going to move before deciding on muirfield. The course is within the Braid hills and has the best view of the city from the 18th green. One of the clubs has had James Braid, his son and grandson as club captains and funnily enough the name Braid is merely a coincidence. Tommy Armour was also a member and a few other notable figures.
Interesting to see more younger members at both clubs nowadays. Definitely wasn’t the case when I was a student member around 10 years ago so having an affordable price structure must be helping them attract young people which is great for the health of any club
I play here, great to see it getting some attention and I thought this video absolutely nailed the great community atmosphere. The walkers aren't as much of a problem as the video makes out - especially in the colder months. I know someone who plays at Royal Wimbledon. Hedge fund manager. Need I say more? £70k membership fee.
But did you see any Wombles? I can’t believe you spent three days on the common and didn’t even mention them in your film 🤣🤣🤣. Quite a unique place. I’ve played there in the rain and there were a lot less people there then!
I'd hate to play this club. Here in the UK almost all of our courses give certain points of access on the course to walkers and ramblers but this course(s) is just a nightmare to me and would disturb my main aim of having a 'relaxing' round of golf. I do love golf yet hate the stuffiness and snobbery surrounding it but I also love the peacefulness it provides. I don't see much chance for relaxing here. Hardly surprising given it's in London though. Get up to the North West of England as soon as you can Erik and visit the Golf Coast of Merseyside and Lancashire.
You should come to Saint Louis, Missouri. We have a Golf Course in Forest Park, home of the 1904 Worlds Fair and the 4th most visited park in the country. Wait till the spring tho it sucks here in the winter
Could these episodes get any better? The answer is yes, yes they can! Great work guys. Also, please shoot me a message whenever you are playing in Eastern North Carolina!!!!
This reminds me of my club here in Christchurch, New Zealand, Hagley Golf Club. Has been in the very public Hagley park since 1873 (oldest club in the Canterbury province). Luckily not quite as many people as London😂. Japanese tourists do love to wander about in the middle of the fairways taking photos, completely oblivious to the fact that you’re standing there ready to smash a drive. Saw a guy who had pulled up a sofa next to one of the greens a couple of Sundays ago, and was enjoying a few beers in the sun (probably not the greatest spot to park up). Also had a lady walking her dog try to pick up one of my Pro V1’s to give to her dog (I was only about 30 meters away, thought it would be obvious that the ball on the ground belonged to the guy with the golf clubs walking towards it). Overall it’s not too bad though, there are about three holes that you have to be really conscious of pedestrians, but once you get deeper into it, you tend to forget.
The course was laid out by my great great grandfather young Willie Dunn. Loved this course and the history behind it. I am William Dunn the fifth and I played it with my father Willie Dunn the 4th and one day soon I hope to take my son, William Dunn the 6th with me to play it too.
When you do then give me a shout - I’m a former captain and member and I’ll arrange a game and a beer

One of the clubs has had James Braid, his son and grandson as club captains and funnily enough the name Braid is merely a coincidence. Tommy Armour was also a member and a few other notable figures.
your videos are top tier
Great film!!!!
Great content again EAL, lived very close to this course it’s pretty good on the whole.
I love this! Just wonderful!
Great job as always. Love it.
But did you see any Wombles? I can’t believe you spent three days on the common and didn’t even mention them in your film 🤣🤣🤣.
Quite a unique place. I’ve played there in the rain and there were a lot less people there then!
Was just about to comment "but what about the Wombles?" At least we both know that's why he wasn't allowed to film in some areas 😉😂
I just wanna know....... If ya lose ya ball can ya blame it on a Womble and take a free drop?😂
ACE again Erik, another great video...hope I meet you one day.
Richmond Park also has a golf course within it and Sudbrook Park golf club is immediately the other side of Richmond Park's boundary fence.
So good! So freaking good! Thank you.
A superb video. Will for sure check one of the clubs out when I am next in London
I hadn't seen the third course mentioned here when I wrote my first comment but the third course is everything that is wrong with golf in the UK.
Glad to see an episode purely focused on golf, to many of these episodes of late have featured very little golf.
Really well done video.
You should come to Saint Louis, Missouri. We have a Golf Course in Forest Park, home of the 1904 Worlds Fair and the 4th most visited park in the country.
Wait till the spring tho it sucks here in the winter
My dog and I are definitely interested in this video 🇨🇦
Could these episodes get any better? The answer is yes, yes they can! Great work guys.
Also, please shoot me a message whenever you are playing in Eastern North Carolina!!!!
Great epi!
why does the guy at 11:51 just chip the ball into the tree haha
This is the epitome of Random golf club. ALL really are welcome! I’m really interested in the amount of injuries they have out there.
When you carry your small bag..do you have all 14 clubs?? Or what do you usually take??
Love the content
Thats what golf should be,having a goodtime with friends and new friends and share a ginger beer after.Cheers.
