  • Hey Steel Shooters,
You know what it is, time for Stage 7 of 8 of the Colorado State Steel Challenge Championship - Outer Limits (sc-104).
At this Match I shot 4 Divisions - First stage of the day both days of shooting. Shot RFPO & PCCO on Friday, then on Saturday shot RFRI & RFRO.
The plan continues to be to walk through a video of each division shot during the match for the Outer Limits Steel Challenge Stage.
Just couldn't find the correct rhythm to put together GM runs on Outer Limits. Settles for Master rank times across the board except for one division.

My biggest lesson from this Stage - Outer Limits - at this specific match, was simply to wait .25 more seconds in the center / middle box before engaging the targets. Get set, then breeze through the targets, don't rush getting set, rush shooting, and start missing targets which cause a chain reaction of trying to make up time.

Your video probably THE BEST break down in steel challenge stages! Very nice!

Yea, I’ve had dismal results on this stage and it’s holding me back from A class, RFPI. Have finally been able to dry fire this stage. Chopped off 2 seconds last match but still a long way to go. I start in the back of the box on the left and move to the top left corner on the right. Just can’t seem to move laterally as quick

Have some RFPI content dropping soon - Lost footage from the Alabama Match - Adding this stage to my dry fire routine! See you at the range soon buddy.

So it looks like you set up in the front right corner of the box and then run backward ending up in the middle to the back left corner of the box.
Outer limits is usually one of my better stages. I shoot it almost completely backwards to what you do. I start in the back right corner of the box with my belt line pointed towards the stop plate. I preload my legs to get an aggressive launch out of the box. I start on the small plate then the big plate, rolling out of the box as I shoot the back plate. I then transition to the small plate and track it as I am moving. I roll into the box, low with my heal touching inside the box. I try to end up in the front left corner of box 2. As soon as I pick up my left foot I fire at the small plate and then big plate and stop. It has worked well with me and it is seldom I ever have a string higher than 4.70.
We been playing with the Lance shuffle, and it seems to pay off but it’s very inconsistent. At least for me. I say it’s worth attempting.

Yep, I was in the front, I too prefer the back rear. However, at this match - the middle box was not straight, it was farther forward at the left front, which meant the rear / middle seemed farther away. Usually I too have great luck on this stage, but every now and then - dumpster fire happen :P.

Outer limits targets cannot be underestimated. These are tough targets at speed. I like what you said about spending JUST enough time to ensure hits. This applies to every stage but feels twice as consequential on this one!

Must get better at calling my shots on this one , especially after the transitions- that where I believe a slight pause helps the most in ensuring the last three shots are on target!

    Thank you!
I have to say, your filming, editing, camera work, & commentary REALLY is enjoyable to watch. The POV camera really helps me to see the sequence better & having the other camera to watch stance & box positioning is FANTASTIC!
I appreciate the time & effort you put in to create these videos & wish you continued success in your shooting & you tube adventure!

What camera are you using for those POV shots? You can practically look down the sights.

Hey - using the AimCam pro 2i - it’s old and the picture is way worse than before it was sweated in over 50 times or more in the Texas heat. Takes a bit of time to get used to the camera mounted on the glasses- not in- movable mount. after that it’s smooth sailing. Battery lasts an entire match, has a built in sd card slot so no additional equipment needed. Great product.
