Baby Elephant, Phabeni & Lammie the Sheep on a Walk in the Homestead

  • Phabeni sure is different to Khanyisa, the previous orphan to rehabilitate at the orphanage before being integrated into the elephant herd. As a little bull, his character is naturally different but he also has his own unique personality and journey that he is on. He is much feistier and still gives our carers the odd bump or chase as he lets us know he’s the boss around here.
We need to work even harder to calm him down and so these walks around the homestead help get the little bull used to the scents of the other elephants, and used to walking with us, as one team on the move.
Lammie helps give a little creature comfort as a companion but is also tempted by the Lucerne in the homestead, those freshly-delivered bales awaiting the elephants. Phabeni also gives the vegetation a munch, having a go at Timisa’s pile of fresh fare.

He was caught at a younger age than Khaniysa, though she was in much more physical pain. We might just be comparing the impossible bc we are not familiar with what elephants are like at each stage.
But I'd guess, even from watching orphan Rhino's, that Phabi IS on the shy side and that might just be his personality, not just sadness.
We all can't be a Mambo!

@@arribaficationwineho32 They don't exactly work like that in THIS rescue center. He'll be hand fed for up to like 5 years while integrating into THIS herd. Then, they'll have to find a herd far away from people (bc he won't be afraid of them) and he'll certainly go with some buddies. Problem is very intricate and they haven't a solid solution. As you can see, Mambo and his age group would have already been placed, but the steps are not in place yet. So, we have a long wait.

From the looks of her legs I think she’s going to be very tall. I am going to pray for her broken heart. I have had a broken heart and three years later it still got a crack in it. @user-zb5io8rg8w with a broken heart, all we can do is create NEW memories. One day at a time. Even for Phabeni! He is STILL a fragile boy. He is a baby. Thank GOD for Adine and her Staff! I have so much love and respect for ALL OF YOU who have been caring for all of these Orphans!
Again, for a broken heart, the best thing you can do is take a day at a time. If you are bored, go to your local animal shelter and volunteer. Or volunteer at a nursing home, a homeless shelter. Take the eye off of yourself and help others. It will do your heart good!❤

@familymajor thank you for caring enough to reply to me in particular. In regard to finding something to do, my neighbor has a donkey that he doesn’t care about so I have gotten permission to attend to the donkey. Yesterday I brought in bales of hay for the cold weather. Upcoming donkey was chasing me and I did not get to finish, but you are right of course, and I am taking it one day at a time. I am a Christian I have had father God attending to my heart, and I have not been alone because of him. I think my God for the Holy Spirit every day if not for him, I would still be like a little baby elephant as well. God bless you and have a very wonderful 2024 perhaps this will be the Lord Jesus year to return, I pray so there’s something about this Hebrew year being the year of the door.

He sees different elephants and not one in the group that he recognizes. I see in the videos the team consistently working on building a bond with Phabeni each day which might take longer than other orphans. I thought this channel was supposed to be educational, or is it simply a fund-raiser to milk North American matrons, as they uncritically watch seemingly incessant milk-feeding videos?
You are old enough to recall that the worldwide web was originally established to promote discussion and critical thinking. To deter new posters from asking reasonable questions, as you are trying to do, is downright ignorant.
You have been around long enough now to know that HERD have an established digital team behind the curtains. Enough, I would say, that they should be answering all questions with a degree of transparency, which they currently do not.
What did today's video teach, if anything? An elderly sheep wandering around the homestead with a lost calf. You claim honesty - I would prefer the term transparency: why are the audience not told about weight gain or loss, which you know full well, or should do, is conducted on a weekly basis? The lack of transparency is too often apparent: what are the team thinking about a potential adoptive mother? You don't know and neither do I. If these videos are supposed to be an insight into raising an elephant orphan, then these are legitimate questions which are too often not addressed - and which cooing matriarchs like you seek to smooth over with your doubtless morning coffee.
Your cheerleading and missing emojis are better suited to milk-drinking videos. If people support this channel by watching videos, they are entitled to raise questions - and have reasonable and prompt answers.

Phabeni is different than little K...but she was so hurt...that head butting was out of the question. The poor thing was so fragile that romping and running after the carers was something she couldnt do! Phabeni is a little stubborn...but its that stubborness that will help him pull through! He doesnt love people the way she did...but thats okay...neither does Bubi, Setombe or the 2 big bulls! He is different, but still deserves every ounce of love! I truly believe when he joins the herd...they will sort it out! Meantime we know you will do your best to love him and give him a forever family! I pray for his health and mental well being...and can understand your removing Spotty for a while until he calms down. I often think when he runs at you....that he simply wants to play...and doesnt realize your hoomans! Either way....he has come a long way! Im proud of him and grateful for all the time and love you have invested in him! Khanyisa head butts Timi all the time...is he really any different? LOL Thank you Herd!!❤❤❤❤

Phabeni 's health seems so much improved 😍! Much thanks Adine and HERD Carers! As monumental the challenge to achieve physical health, so goes the challenge to achieve mental emotional health. We can see what this baby 🐘has suffered physically, but we don't know exactly what he suffered emotionally/traumatically, other than the obvious loss of his herd.Perhaps he witnessed something traumatic in addition to becoming separated from his mom/herd. In one HERD video, Adine wrote something about Mambo the young bull receiving comfort from Fishan, the elder bull. Perhaps Phabeni's ultimate soul healing will come from a Jabulani herd elder bull, when he's healthier and a little older, as he's basically an 🐘 infant. Meanwhile, he has the best 🐘 support system in the world and we have a front seat view of his journey. You are loved, Phabeni 😍

@@GuantanamoBayBarbie3 Khanyisa had a lot of physical problems to heal from before she had much interaction with the herd. Phabeni has different kinds of problems that aren't as obvious as Khanyisa's. People suffering from depression, anxiety and trauma (physical or emotional) tend to need more time. I'm confident the vets and other experts at HERD will see to it Phabeni has everything he needs, including time, to acclimate to his surroundings. Each elephant is different and must be given proper respect to adapt.

    • @voiciray
      @voiciray 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

@@user-lb8bg6kj9mwhile well-meaning, I’d suggest that your fears / predictions are founded on absolutely nothing at all. He needs to gain a lot more physical and emotional strength before he can be introduced to the herd. Elephants social dynamics are complex and the elephants are all strangers to him. There are other young ones in the herd, as well as teenagers (ele equivalents) who can be boisterous. Introducing him to the herd prematurely can in the worst case cause harm on both sides. They are taking the right approach by letting him gain strength first, and let himself be introduced gradually on his own terms. You can see how unsure and subdued he seems around them when they were on the other side of the fence. It is understandable that humans lack patience but patience is exactly what is needed here.

he has his own unique personality. Khaniysa was always so curious.Tigere says she always likes to explore. And she was very quick to understand how she fit in. She has always felt her family see her as special and she just loves it. Remember how she would chase Lammie and Ningu away from her sweet potatoes. She can get a little "bossy" and cheeky. But she is a girl and quite an extrovert and she doesn't hesitate to step in. Phabeni will come into his own in due course. Maybe he will enjoy being a bit of a loner like Samopane. Hi from Vancouver Island, BC, Canada.
Let me start by saying that I enjoy your videos immensely.
Lammie looks like she is struggling today, and I know that you give her the very best of care. I can see that she is throwing her head back when she walks and am wondering if maybe a little hoof trim might change the angle when her front feet hit the ground.
I am sure that you are on top of it, and at her age, it could be her joints.
    Just a thought.
I have been most impressed by yourself and the other carers, particularly in a recent case where the baby was too far gone to make it.
    God bless all of you.
    🎉
