  • Today, we finally show some video shot in 2019, where we made headway getting our Long 460DT tractor to actually be usable. Mixed in with current video from 2021, we finally have the bugs worked out!
    First we'll work on the hydraulic steering. Then, we'll watch it spring another leak and blow a hydraulic ram. Fast forward to 2021, we'll show how we put aftermarket rams in for the bucket, and fixed the rest of the issues.
    We start it up, and everything works!
    All that and a snake, this time on Vortex Garage

      Will do - spring is coming and I'll be doing roadwork with it soon. Before then, I need to solve a leak in the injection pump. Hoping it's a fairly easy and common fix of some top cover seals. Will bring cameras along as I dig in. Good luck with yours!

    You seem intelligent and capable I have owned a 460 for years and have ran into a lot of the same issues if you want to keep water out of the trans fluid pull the transmission shifter plate and replace the shifter seals and put a oring between the cover and the reverse gear control lever pivot pin with a little grease.. if you have questions with anything let me know

      Thanks for that advice! I've been keeping a tarp on it but figured there had to be a more permanent solution. Appreciate that!!

    When the demolition of the factory begun, there where hundreds and hundreds of the black hoses (7:58) sitting and waiting to be thrown away. I think the originals ones where manufactured by S.C Hidraulica S.A Brasov - Sacele Romania

      This is awesome info! I'm always learning lots from great comments like this. I bet many good spares, parts, and tooling were lost...sad really.

      @@VortexGarage Here is another sad story about the factory. In its prime day, the factory had a train station for loading the tractors by a gantry into the train carriages. Some of then got dropped, in the process, some tractors had some issues during manufacturing process. Due to the high demand no one had time to fix or salvage them... no one does this today, due to legal issues. Guess where all of them went? To the dumping ground / landfill of the factory. Not scrapped, but buried. After the the factory got closed, the company who purchased the land to build apartment buildings and a big a... mall called Coresi (search for Coresi Shoping Resort Brasov) start cutting all the metal, emptying all the war protection bunkers and.... digging the landfil. Every day trucks came out from the area, with tractors that where thrown there... The original edition tractors that where manufactured and stored in the factory museum, where place outside the mall, for everyone entertainment. After many complaints they managed to build a glass enclosure for them outside the mall.
      Here is a video posted on youtube made by friend of mine with photos from a book that I have and some on the ground photos. In the las video, the articulated tractor with T42, is the one I drove when I sent gears to heat treatment sector.

    Don't have a tractor nor a farm. Liked and committed from the city of Las Vegas! I'm hoping you get more traction on your channel, which has one of the best video as well as narrative. Best of luck in 2021.

    Video is amazing. I bought a 1979 Universal 550DT Super tractor. Very similar to the one you have. I can't find a video going over all the controls. Can you do a video describing all the levers and their functions. Is there anywhere i can watch a video on changing the band brakes on the Universals. Thanks

      That's a great reminder - I was meaning to do a controls video. I'll see if I can find some time this weekend and get the tractor fired up and go over the 460's controls. I too have had trouble finding data on that, so I've had to peice together alot but know just about every control on it now. Will get a video soon on that

      Search for AUREL LAL on TH-cam he does tutorials in Romanian about these tractors. Even I have one. He may have subtitles on some of his videos and most likely they be in English.

    Have a UTB 550DT. Can you tell me where the transmission fluid dipstick is or how to check the fluid levels. Thanks. Giuseppe

    • @laurentiu.panait2536
      @laurentiu.panait2536 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello. The trans dipstick is at the bottom on the right side of the transmission right below the handbrake. Depending on wether the 3 point hitch hydraulic line is obstructing the dipstick tube or not, your tractor may have it or it simply be plugged.

    • @laurentiu.panait2536
      @laurentiu.panait2536 ปีที่แล้ว

      I forgot to mention that the required amount of transmission lubricant is 15 liters more or less.

    Debating on buying one down the road from me at a great price but scared because of the lack of parts being hard to find. The one I’m looking at has no brakes at all how hard is finding parts for the brakes and is it a job?

    Sir ,my long 445 tractor steering is turning to the right when I crank it. I just put a new pump on it and have bleed the lines, but still pulls completely to the right. My pump is getting really hot .
    Do you have any idea were the problems could be. Sincerely

    • @VortexGarage
      @VortexGarage  หลายเดือนก่อน

      From what I understand the 445 uses a mechanical steering box at the wheel and a hydraulic power assist.
      The 460 I have used a fully hydraulic (hydrostatic) steering so it's a bit different.
      That said, the hydraulic power steering ram should be controlled by a control valve assembly on the side of the tractor. If that is faulty, jammed or even has air it could be causing it to be stuck open feeding the side of the ram that is pushing your steering to the right. This could also be working the pump harder.
      This thread on Yesterday's Tractor forum may help you out - if not id register there and ask, a good number of experts there.
      forums.yesterdaystractors.com/threads/long-445-power-steering.1252007/
      I do not have familiarity with the 445 steering setup, just know that it's mechanical with hydraulic assist
      Hope this helps some!
