I truly envy you guys, Im 60 years old and a widow, this was the dream my husband and I had until cancer came to our lives. For years we fought it, he finally lost the battle 2 years ago. So watching YOUR dream come to life is especially poignant for me. Great job guys keep it up.
hello darlings.. its so good to see this episode again in 2024.. it was a nice place there but where you are now really will offer you sooo much more as you create the type of infrastructures that time and experience has revealed regarding your needs and wants.. xx much love xxc
Never afraid to do something new! My dad was a carpenter and i often helped. You guys are an inspiration to me and I've watched this video probably 3 times, as well as all your videos! 💙
You young people are awesome. Been watching your journey and am so proud of you for what you have achieved and are still achieving. I live in very sunny South Africa so I truly admire your grit and determination to farm in the extreme weather. Good luck to you both. x
That is one tough Green House! A lot of hard work went into building it too.You two make a great team and will enjoy a very successful life together.I wish you both much happiness!
This is Teresa --- Wow, that looks great you guys! The window is pretty trick!! Danny is still a little concerned about no concrete around the ribs, but I'm guessing that you've researched and two feet in should do it. We actually had one of our hoop houses blow away into the trees last year (twisted metal, it was a mess, unsalvageable) -- we have great respect for wind power! Danny had it weighted down with concrete buckets because the ground is bedrock. Clearly not enough, lol! Danny is, however, reassured by your comments about ventilation and shade cloth, hahaha! It looks fantastic. Very solid.
I am having a great time watching you guys on your projects . I have never seen a green house built before very educational . Last year my wife and I built 2 raised beds 4 foot x 8 foot and 29 inches high off the ground .. It was alot of fun to build and produces well ..
Congratulations guys you are doing good. I always say with effort and enthusiasm and trusting yourself you can go where ever you want. Soon you are going. to seat and look to the front and enjoy all your effort and how far you have been 😊😅❤. From Beacon NY
Cool build, I watch the first one and got sucked into watching the second one and I probably have to find one where it’s closer to the end of summer to see how it all turned out. Ha ha.
Great hoop house. Always wanted one when I was younger and planted from seed. As we get older, I'm 64 and my husband is 69, we are going the easiest way to put up food for us. Buy mostly plants now. We still have some crops from seed. Anyway, awesome job.
The high tunnel Looks Great !! I would like to offer a suggestion for the greenhouse. Since it is stationary you might want to put a skirt of plastic from the base board to the ground to prevent cold air from getting in. This is what we did on my family farm for the heated greenhouses because we had so much wind in late winter and early spring. Hope this is helpful.
That turned out so awesome. Nice to clean out the cabin of all those plants.. That looks like it will stand up to that harsh Alaska winter. Have a great day you two..!!
Thanks for showing how you built your end walls. I’m building the same hoop house this winter here in Ohio and wasn’t sure how I was going to build the ends. I wish you’d have shown how you positioned the hose clamps on the purlins. I’ll figure it out. Great job.
Gene Harmon awesome that's great to hear! We ran the top purlin under the ribs and undid the hose clamp all the way then fastened around both pipes with the nut on the bottom and we wrapped with gorilla tape prior to putting on the poly. We hope this helps 😀
WHAT? No KIT? LOL Great job.. Loved what you did.. Unmistakably- break up in all it's glory.. Loved seeing all the plant starts too.. Thanks for sharing your progress..
In the future you may want to look into using "Wiggle Wire" to sandwich the plastic. It also makes to easier to replace the plastic in the future. The double layer also plastic allows you to install a small fan to inflate between the layers which increases the thermal efficiency of the house.
On the door frame, at the bottom of the door you can perfected by creating ventilation frames like a blind. Can be opened at certain degrees. Also can cover the ventilation grill with a plastic attached on top of the grill frame if it's too cold...etc..
That really turned out great!! I love that you incorporated a window in the end. I thought it looked a lot like Jason's hoop house with a few mods. Nice contrast to see the start and then all the little seedlings in there.
Please add 2 more purlins of 3/4" emt 3 feet off of center on each side of the current center purlin. 3 feet not 4 feet. Use 3'4" strap clamps and 1" tek screws. A four foot span between the purlins will cause a sink for snow and rain thereby allowing the snow to build up enough to bring your house down. I know this because I have sold over 3 thousand of these kits here in the PNW down by Portland. Also pick up 4 auger anchors that screw into the ground to eliminate uplift from the wind. 30" long with a 4" auger blade. Online they are about $5 each and come in a box of four. Screw them into the ground just inside of your 2x4 side boards. Maybe 3' in from each end. Then drill and bolt through that base board and the eye of the anchor with a fender washer on the inside of the ghse. Other than that, Nice build. Happy planting
Great video. I will definitely save this video for later use when I build mine. Thank you for sharing and giving credit where credit is due. Thanks again. I will check out Jason's channel.
Not sure if it been mentioned yet but when we set posts especially if its wet we just dump dry bags of concrete and tamp them down as we fill around the post the concrete will suck all the moisture up. We have yet to have any post or support give or budge
Good job on the green house. I put a greenhouse up this year to, I out grew it in less then a few week's 🤣 now I just use it for starts and watermelon, cantaloupe stuff like that. I can't wait to move to Fairbanks next year.
I would hope you folks do a part #3 after a year or two in that Alaska clement, so everyone can ee how well the green house held up, and also if you had to replace the plastic yet. Luv watching your videos! This
Really enjoying your guys’ videos. I grew up on the Kenai Peninsula on a small farm/homestead, and am looking at buying some land somewhere between Talkeetna and Willow. Great to see videos set in the specific area I’ll be homesteading
Really nice job on building a frugal hoophouse. I'm new to the channel and have been skipping around watching your videos, starting with the oldest. Did I miss something? Did y'all go to on grid power? At 1:00 I see a power pole with a transformer at the top behind you.
Mountain Crest Farm we only have solar, we go over that a little in the solar install video part 2 but there is power in our neighborhood. We have neve made an attempt to decieve our viewers. Solar was a much better fit for us and we are happy with the limitations we have, the power pole has been there since we moved in, we're just not hooked up to it ☺
@@SimpleLivingAlaska Oh...OK. I didn't think y'all were trying to deceive anyone...that is for PL4L to do...I just thought I had missed something in one of the videos I skipped. I've watched several, but not every minute of every one. Yet.
I had power almost that close and MEA wanted $13k to run it to my property to a pad mount at the corner (shortest distance for them). I won’t repeat what I told them.
You might want to add some 6 foot high far fence around the sides of the greenhouse since you are in Bear territory. Also, there is a dump mechanism that will speed up your unloading.
Good morning from Florida. both of you are amazing keep up the good work. Happy Mothers' day to all your the mothers that watch your channel and may God bless all mothers.
Thought the window added a nice touch to the hoop house, esp when seen from the highway side. Nice to see the inside plants doing well, as they look both happy and healthy in the hoop house; must also be nice to have some space freed up in your place as well. Hopefully the outdoor garden won't be visited by any meandering moose or deer; would hate to see all the effort go down the drain. Appreciate giving us the tour! (edit: spelling reasons)
J K, we do plan to have an electric fence, couldn't risk it here :) We were happy to reclaim some of the cabin space when we moved the plants out permanently, plus the hardening off process can be quite tedious!

if you want to not dismantle it in winter, you have just to tighten some wire under the poly from front to back, and put some pipe posts every 10 feet or so to support the middle. want more details let me know.
