Enjoyed seeing the 79. Something that y'all might find interesting is that the VIN designates the car was built in Van Nuys, LA, California, thus the "L" in the number. The Van Nuys cars were painted with water-borne paint, which didn't hold up that well, which may be the reason for the worn off areas on your car. Many of them had to be repainted under warranty back then. There was no clear-coat used on 79's, by the way, or any 2nd gen F-body 70-81. Basecoat/clearcoat started showing up on production cars in the mid-80's, maybe as early as 82 for the 3rd gen f-body.

Speaking of production numbers, there were 117,108 TA's built for 1979. That is the highest production year for Trans Ams in history, and by a wide margin. Next closest was the 78, with 93,341.

Ordered one identical to this car back in 1979. I'm so glad this one is sold, so I wouldn't be tempted to buy it!

@@carcraftclassics9534 Oh my word .. tell me it's NOT a Nocturne Blue w/ camel cloth!!! When I checked your site, you had a red 1979.

Wow... i had this same exact car in 1983, only diff was mine had cars n concepts t tops, camel vinyl, non ws6, gold 7" wide snowflakes. Im wanting to build the same car, but since they are so hard to find im curious as what this one sold for as if i found its twin i would not have to change anything of course. Tnx

The Olds 403 was rated at only 185 HP in ‘79. The hot ticket in ‘79 was the Pontiac 400 rated at 220 HP.

The 403 cars are quicker in the 1/4 mile than the 400 and get better gas mileage.....I've owned both and raced them

@@winstonmccollum8992 🤯 what other differences were their in the cars? Did they have the same trans and rear gears?

@@tahm22 The 400 4 speed had 3:23 gears with posi. The 403 car I own now has a 2:73 posi and
runs 15.20 in the quarter...bone stock engine never apart. Bone stock engine never apart 400 4 speed I owned
would never run better than 15.9 no matter how much tuning I did or how hard I flogged it. Both cars loaded with all options including WS6. The 403 engine has way more torque than the Pontiac 400, and with the 2:73
rear axle there is no wheel spin on takeoff, it just goes.

Thanks for the reply. That blows my mind. Is the 403 auto or manual trans?

My childhood dream car. I remember walking in the showroom next to my school and although I was only 14 the showroom manager allowed me to sit in exactly the same car. If I live in US I wouldn’t miss this opportunity. Such a pretty car in a beautiful colour combination

FrankieD R/T in Germany 🇩🇪. I had a Black 1979 Trans Am in Kansas when I was stationed at Ft. Riley! Loved it brother! Mine was a 400 four speed car. I miss it and would like another one! How much you asking?🤔
