A Beautiful Summer Hike in Washington's Alpine Lakes Wilderness

  • Hey everyone! Hiking season is back!! Super stoked to hit the trail this summer and explore more of Washington's beauty. The Cascades and Olympics are on my priority list and I have some really fun trips planned once the snow starts to melt. Until then, enjoy a nice morning hike to Annette Lake. Annette Lake is nestled behind the Snoqualmie Pass Ski Resort and is a perfect morning, afternoon, or evening adventure. I shot a roll of Portra 160 through my Pentax 6x7 and although they are far from my best work, I still had a wonderful day getting some exercise in and enjoying the nice weather. Cheers!

Well your channel being focused on photography does not mean that you always have to deliver shots that are portfolio worthy. To me honestly it's mostly about the inspiration making me crave to get out there myself and start shooting again. And that is something all of your videos definitely achieve. Great work again.

I just came across this vid. Honestly this makes me so happy because it feels like whatever you plan for life, something seems to intervine and not end up how you imagined. But I loveddd how you turned it around and pushed your limits to try something new, and what you don’t usually do, and it still turn out sooo beautiful!! Thank you for inspiring me to one day do this!

This video was really well made! I think that showing not every roll shot is perfect is really important for this community. I’ve shot my share of rolls that didn’t live up to my expectations and seeing that this happens to everyone can be really helpful. But great work man, keep it up!!!

I watch your videos for so much more than the amount of photos man. And like everyone I think they came out as bangers. It’s always good to see photographers breaking away from what they are comfortable with, like you shooting portraits, textures these things are the signs of someone exploring their craft. I've hiked in the Cascade Mountains with my camera many times Brae. And many times I've come back home with nothing substantial on the film. But, that doesn't really matter. Thanks for taking us along on a great hike, that in itself was a nice gift of your time.
I will challenge you with this, why not pack some B&W film for times like that? Some Ilford Ortho Plus or something that would take the light you had and make some dramatic images. There’s this guy named A. Adams, you might have heard of him 😁 He took some pretty good B&W photographs in broad daylight.

Loved the video dude! The images are awesome as well! Honestly yeah sometimes you might not make something you aren’t that excited about, happens to me all the time! But I like to think people want to see the days where you aren’t putting out your best work! It makes you human in a way I guess😂 people including myself get wrapped up in trying to only allow those to see our best work but, getting out of our comfort zone and into new ideas would overall improve us in many aspects of photography! Also I kinda like being reminded that I will have off days like everyone and we shouldn’t be ashamed of it!

Don’t be at all worried about the number of images. Your videos take us to a beautiful part of North America regardless. I actually like the images too, especially the portraits. The joy of photography can also be about the process. I have hiked into spots, and often came away underwhelmed by my images. However, those walks still resonates in the ole braincase years later….as a guy likely your dad’s age, trust me on this 😉

As always you manage to capture the beauty of the hike in the video footage combined with a very nice choice of music. (by the way, how many extra miles do you hike to set up and retrieve the camera for the walking shots?)

Hey Jon, I have the Explore v2 25L with the small mirrorless core unit and it hold the Pentax 67 no problem. Although I’d probably opt for the 30L for a little extra space. This is what I use for all my day hikes. For overnight trips I use an Osprey Aura AG 65.
