Thanks. I just got my Surge SE a week ago and it's a blast. I'm a rank beginner on drums although I've played bass for more than 45 years, so I think I know a little about rhythm. This kit was easy to assemble and the control module is very easy to figure out. The rack makes this kit easy to adjust for height and arm length. I'm 6' 1" and everything was simple to adjust.
Lots of people complain about the sounds, but if you adjust the eq on your amp and adjust pitch, volume, reverb, etc on each pad you can get it sounding pretty dang good. It, of course, won't sound like a pro Roland kit, but it doesn't cost two grand either. For a beginner this kit is awesome!

Anyway, I am a lifetime "acoustic kit" drummer and have played pro for many, many, years. I will be setting this kit up as close as I can to my acoustic kits so there will not be as much of a weirdness feel transitioning from one kit or the other. Very important I think. Thank you for this video.

Very helpful and well done. Great point on the double kick sound level issue. With my Surge, I've found turning up the sensitivity in the utility settings helps with the double kick response level. Thank you!

Surge Special Edition comes with BFD free download. From here you can load on realistic drum kits off your computer which makes it a win-win.

I taped a cheap kids mesh snare pad to the bass drum pad and just plugged the kick cable into that snare pad and now my double bass is amazing

I enjoyed the video. My understanding is that the power of Alesis is plugging the command module into a PC or laptop and this gives access to far superior sound and customisation? Or is that only on the Surge Special edition? (the kit I'm eyeing up). Everyone says the Roland's are better sounding and I agree until you include connecting the laptop, then I'm leaning towards a better physical kit in the Alesis with the great sound of a Roland. Any thoughts?

    Great video.
I noticed the Nitro Max just released. How does the Surge module compare to the Nitro max module? And any other comparisons?

I went for the Surge kit because of the robust chrome steel rack! It was a no brainer for me. It is a very solid set.
I just got this beautiful Surge kit used and it works great except I cannot choke the ride or crash. I have another 10" cymbal coming in tomorrow so I guess we will see if my current cymbals are defective choking wise. Maybe a factory reset may be needed. I have no idea.
Also, has anyone ever used drum head tension drum tuners on mesh heads? It seems it would be healthier for the triggers if the mesh heads have consistent tensioning. I still use my Tama Watch on my acoustic kits. It would be super cool if I could tension the mesh heads as I do my acoustic drums for a closer real feel same response safely. Just a thought that no one seems to cover on E kits.

if you are running something like ez drummer can you adjust for the low double bass volume so it responds better?

7:21 you could possibly turn the bass drum sound all the way up

The Surge bass drum pad wins out on double kick! Another win for me. Great!

Hello. Thank you for this video. I do have a question. Wondering just how much bigger the Surge is? I’m looking at buying either one on FB market place. The Surge is about $50 more and I do like the sturdier build, white heads, thinner rims, and mostly the dual zones on all the rims (love some cowbell, etc) I will be using myself BUT also want to teach my 6 yr old son. Will the Surge be too big for him vs the Nitro? Do they both get as low but with the Surge drums more spread out, or does the Nitro get lower?

  • @kamil_jaro
    @kamil_jaro 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

You can play with double kick but the sensor is lower. And you have to make up sensitivity. Or just turn up loudness. Eventually you can easily modify pedal. Its not that hard if you want to do it

I’m 6’5” (or 196 cm) and I’m having trouble with actually using my kit (even at its tallest setting, it’s a little low for me). Any advice?
Edit: I have a Nitro kit.

Craft some wooden blocks with a groove cut into it for the foot it wouldn't take much more tools then a hammer a saw and a 2x4

@0:30 The design of the 2 brains are NOT the same! I"m writing from Jan. 2024, and the Nitro Mesh brain has a square bottom and different buttons.
Have things changed since this video?

Hi, thanks for the comment, I believe you have the new Nitro Max, released at the end of last year to replace the Nitro Mesh, the kit featured in this video. Please see my other videos on the new kit. Thanks.

I got the nitro kit back a while ago but just put it together.
The kick seems very difficult to play, almost no sound comes out unless played very hard.
When I press the kick button on the brain machine. It's so much louder.
I changed the wires to another pad and seems to be working fine
