fuck i forgot the background music Edit: Your profile isn't based on your playstyle, it's based on what you want out of Arknights. The profile can form your playstyle, but it isn't entirely reliant on it.
I aim to max every op sometime in the future but for now I maxed all 3☆'s , 33% of 4☆, 5☆ only mint and honeyberry, and 57% of 6☆ are built I crave for more content to clear as I only use 3 and 4☆ to clear ISO and I never bother with SSS😂
My favorite thing about Arknights is that I have a full team of Fox-based characters. I walk them through each event and have fun. Then when they reach the limit of their abilities, when it's just not fun to grind down a stage to me, I bring out the big toys and start smashing away at the stages. Still with some Foxes though since Suzuran is still one of the best debuffers around and Chiave is just as good at being a Vanguard in my Fox team as he is in any other team I use. I don't even know if I'd still be playing if Arknights didn't have a functional Floof team. I have had so many other Gacha games throw in "Tamamo" or "Could be a fox could be a weird dog mascot character" and then call it a day with anything fox-related. All this to say Frostleaf's range has been a godsend in the current event for hitting heaters that other Ops need their skill on for. She pretty much sets up every stage on her own for me.
There are a lot of Vorthos players in Arknights. Some of which include Lowlight, the founder of Arknights and major shareholder in Hypergryph, the developer of Arknights; Hoshieve, another founder and major shareholder of Arknights who's Lowlight's artist friend; and most importantly Hypergryph's board of directors, most of which consist of Lowlight's artist friends.
I agree with Johnny in a major way, but trying to boost up Frostleaf isn't scratching the bottom of the barrel. It's scratching THE GROUND UNDERNEATH!!😂
@@rumekfuria6037 I mean... 25% cold chance? Aspd down is good i guess, but being able to freeze is way more helpful and she only has a 6% chance to do that. Not to mention that her self aspd buff on S2 isn't even enough to change that, because she still can only get one attack in the duration of her cold effect.
Damn you were pretty right, I probably a Vorthos with how many things I love about the game that arent just exclusive to the gameplay kek (And im also very very easy to please with anything they make)
Came back to Arknights after 2 and half years and the first thing that surprised me when i came back to the game was the same figures and same people talking about the same subjects back when i was involved heavily in community. I thought to myself people still want to follow the efficient route without asking themselves if they really want to follow this route. It's good to see their at least are some people who want to do their own thing instead of following the wider community expectation.
So now I know that I'm a low-meta Spike player: looking at the game as a personal thing, isn't afraid to switch things up every now and them with niches operators, and sticking to favorite operators (Penance and Degenbrecher's best girls, goddamnit)
A lot of Timmy, A bit of John, Nothing of Spike. Slapping a Dorothy Mine, Swire alter or the loud Dragon brother on a crossroad is one of the peak AK gameplay moments. Finding the perfect Operator for the perfect tile.
I'm honestly in this game for the story lmao, my friends pushed me into it because they know i like the kind of storytelling that Arknights employs. But in regards to gameplay, i'm maybe a mix of Timmy and Johnny: having fun is the goal but if being creative and thinking outside the box leads to more fun then so be it! Thanks for the video Bloop, really like when you do this kind of content!
To me Arknights is the 3rd person version of Warframe I love the lore, Terra is great place to rp within love collecting event medals Fav ops : Goldenglow , Ch'en(alter) , Laurentina and Quarz idk what type of player am tho
It is almost like a horoscope, with "archetypes" broad and ambiguous enough that you can relate to every one of them, at least to an extent. Sometimes I want to blow up the crap out of enemies by using long range (and usually explosive) stuff. Because explosions and big red numbers are fun. Or bring in the squad Heidi or Aurora purely because I like their voices. I don't care about meta tier lists, so Surtr still sits at lvl1 (the only lvl1 in my entire roster), while chars like Frostleaf, Amiya, Nearl (both ones) are maxed out. Yet still, many of my units still fall into meta category. I optimize my account, the Base, resources gain, the trustfarm, Roguelike "battle-pass" progress and so on. At least, to a certain extent. And I like the story, like to do "lore friendly" runs for new events depending on area and can raise a character and give them a module upgrades simple because of lore. All above are influenced by different variables like mood, energy, time on hand to play, etc. Soo, yeah. Not sure how lucky (or unlucky) I am, nor how common it is. Don't trying to deny what you said either. Just a wall of thoughts in response to the video.
I can agree that it's easy to fall into all 3 of the categories, but that's assuming you look at it from the perspective of "I play like this, therefore I am." Instead, your profile is more indicative of your desire to play Arknights. You aren't a Johnny because you play with niche operators sometimes, you're a Johnny if your main drive for playing Arknights is to experiment and be creative. Everyone enjoys a bit of the story or likes to chill and play lax sometimes, and people like optimizing to an extent. It's not about *how* you play the game, it's more *why* you play the game.
So pretty much, there are 3 kinds of players: people who want to prove a point, people who want to prove themselves and people who have nothing to prove. In an applied scenario, it’s vivi vs eben vs eyja. Vivi is for people who want to prove a point, she’s got a high floor low ceilling but people love to bully her. Eben is for people who want to prove themselves, he has an insanely high ceilling, but it’s higher then the average player is willing to go. Eyja is for people who have nothing to prove, they don’t care about pushing limits or improving at the game, they just want to beat the game.
I think applying the MtG player archetypes to Arknights is a really fun concept! I do have a couple thoughts as both a nicheknights player and someone who was brought into the game from the Vorthos mindset: Firstly, I'd *definitely* consider the vast majority of nicheknights as a Johnny thing rather than a Spike thing! There are a couple exceptions (I think Sniperknights in particular tends to appeal to Spikes), but stuff like 4-stars only, welfare only, single illustrator only, or even pink hair only (my personal fave!) are all about learning how to make the most of operators that might otherwise get overlooked. Operators like Goldenglow and Pozëmka help Pinknights push its limits, but it's also a niche that requires stuff like maxing out your Kirara and getting creative with Heidi! When "Johnny" nicheknights players look to tackle endgame content like CC, that doesn't really turn us into Spikes at heart (though there are definitely the Johnny/Spike combos-just like in MtG-looking to set records within their niche), because the fundamental thrill comes not from getting the highest score possible, but from doing so in a unique and creative way. Secondly, as a Vorthos who is primarily motivated to play by Arknights' story and world: this actually creates pretty different play patterns than what you've described in the video! (I personally very much have Johnny and Spike motivations too, but know a good amount of people who are more of a pure Vorthos; these comments are based on a combination of where I was at as a beginner player, and what I've observed in these friends.) Most people who do lore-accurate runs are actually doing a Johnny thing; Vorthos players tend to actually be the most "boring" in terms of gameplay unless they've also got streaks of the other archetypes in them-because for them, the gameplay is just a means to an end, to be swept away as quickly and easily as possible. Instead, Arknights Vorthos players build operators for two reasons: they're invested in the character's story, OR they want a powerful carry who will help them speed through stages without much thought. In this respect, they've got some strong overlap with your Timmy-in-Arknights player, but the underlying motivations are different. Timmy wants to hyper-buff Exu for the thrill of seeing a boss melt, or field Fiametta s3 because "hee hee big explosion"; Vorthos brings the same default squad of powerful operators to every stage or simply pulls up a Kyostin guide immediately. The one exception I've found-which is much more in line with your initial Vorthos concept-is actually around operators that Vorthos players *refuse* to build. I know a Vorthos who refuses to build any of the child operators; there are others out there who won't build operators who they don't like as people.
i feel like a deeper discussion could be had on how people approach games in general through this viewpoint. even more so perhaps an "alignment chart" could be formed based on the different types that a person more aligns with similar to the alignment grid used in d&d. like one axis could represent how a person generally enjoys a game mechanically and the other how they enjoy it artistically. using the same three personality profiles mentioned here would be a great start(or just the actual alignments) for mechanical enjoyment and 'vorthos' being just one of three on the art side. expanding on the idea, vorthos in this case represents a person's preference for the interaction with the story and characters so maybe the next one could represent someone who prefers the interpersonal interactions, or "sense of community"? and then for the third it could be someone who prefers to analyse the nitty gritty details and feats shown in the story, similar to the "vs battle" wiki. as a side note: i wonder if we could use a grid system like this to describe games in a better way than vague terms like "jrpg" or "rts"? like imagine describing starcraft 2 as a "spike vs battle" game to describe the appeal that it may have rather than the specific systems that it uses.
That's a pretty reasonable comparison and typology! Focusing on general intent makes the types broadly pretty accurate. Though I wouldn't put lore-accurate players and pure lore/character/setting fans into the same type, I might be wrong here, but in my experience, those who play for the story don't really think about their team and just throw in whatever works, because they care more about reading. Lore-accurate players are really just nicheknights players, aren't they? But good analysis overall :) As for me, I'm usually a Timmy-type with occasional bouts of Johnnyness.
Interestingly, in CN there was a web event where they surveyed the doctors on their play style. The doctors were presented with a selection of bosses and a set of premade squads that they would choose from to fight those bosses. afterwards, they were given a descriptor for their playstyle depending on what type of squads they favoured: choose mostly squads with meta units: The bold duellist (somewhat comparable to the high meta spike) choose mostly squads that are well-rounded: the fearless duellist choose mostly squads specifically tailored to that specific boss: the decisive tactician choose mostly low rarity squads: the inventive tactician (somewhat comparable to the low meta spike) choose squads that fit with what happened in the story: the tranquil chameleon (vorthos). We were actually given the results data for this event. As it turns out, over 60% of doctors who took the survey got the "bold duellist" result. It's became somewhat of a meme in the CN community. As for what I got? Well...
My playstyle is definitely closer to Timmy than anything else; I initially fell in love with arknights through the challenge of trying to do hard content with underlevelled units when i was still early in the game; my infatuation didn't come from trying to work out my own strategies, but from trying to execute and adapt other people's strategies meant for more complete accounts with my more limited roster (early CCs in particular were an absolute blessing for this; grinding for hours to get the timing on Pyrite gorge exactly right to clear risk 18 using units like Istina, Deepcolor, Rosa and E1 Feater was amazing fun. I was trying to adapt Eckogen's strats but hadn't pulled or raised any of the relevant 6 stars so i had to improv so much of it). That has faded a lot as my account has gotten stronger, and I'm not super creative about coming up with new strategies myself to play with my still unraised or less orthodox units with, but while my playstyle is Timmy, my mindset and my character raising priorities are 100% Johnny. Big number is boring (Degenbrecher's kit is a crime for doing nothing new compared to Irene, just having a quicker cycle for more power), but if a unit does literally anything new, it really excites me. I love to think about the use cases and map their merits out (and i do play a lot of IS and prioritise playing it with my recently raised units, so that I'm forced to get a bit creative with them). I have massive bones to pick with high meta spikes.
One part Timmy. I play in a way thats fun for me- One part Johnny. -but I also try to puzzle out a tough level when I get frustrated, to have fun in a different way. One part Vorthos. I get real sad when I'm not good enough to complete events, yeah some rerun or are added in side stories and intermizzi, but limited hurts the most because they might never return. I love the world of terra and all that goes on in it.
Arknights is cool in that I'm not forced to play meta anymore because the weekly premium currency can be repeated once you beat one annihilation stage. Then the rest is about rounding out your account for the various content, and even harder stages can be used with your custom team but requires more creativity (which is good!). It's a really cool game where you can have self expression unlike so many other gacha, gatekeeping creativity.
I think I'm a low meta Spike archetype because nicheknights and the community around it is some of the stuff I find most interesting and fun about Arknights. Watching people that play different niches tackle different stages in different ways and playing nicheknights myself is what I find fun. A lot of my enjoyment from videogames as a whole comes from overcoming challenges and no different in gacha games - in FGO I played 1-3*s for parts of the story and use a lot of 1-3* units generally and Arknights I started gridning the game because I found out that A) there's a roguelike mode and B) that 4*s are powerful enough to clear all normal content. There is a bit of the Johnny archetype in me as the reason why I am into nicheknights in particular is so I get to see these underused operators get their time to shine in places where they are optimal. General players don't really care about Greyy alter but he's amazing in 5* only content for example. I'm still more of a low meta Spike because even if I like challenge and seeing underused operators shine I still don't really wanna play with units that just feel bad to play like Frostleaf.
I love the character and this world, that I do But I have too little time to do things lore accurate. I mean, Nian give me the Goat Knight, and by her will I shall make use of her!
My playstyle progression has been Timmy➡️High Meta Spike➡️Low Meta Spike with a hint of Johnny. I stopped playing Arknights for a while because during my "High Meta Spike" phase, i slowly got burned out by how easy the stages were. Then when i returned, i decided to focus on using 4 star operators and now I'm having a lot of fun playing Arknights again. When i was using strong 6 star ops, i could breeze through stages and ignore event mechanics, placement and enemy ability. Now that I'm using 4 star operators, i actually have to play around the mechanics, consider my placements and enemy stats and special abilities.
I'm definitely a bit of Timmy and a bit of high Spike (recently), I love using certain units that I like that might not be meta but I find them a lot of fun (Mumu) but also like clearing the high end content and using the big boi units, great video
Would say I'm definitely a Vorthos/Timmy--I'm no megabrain gamer but lately I've found myself trying my hardest to make certain operators work in a stage just because I really felt like using them that day, rather than just dragging Mlynar or Taxes along on every stage. I'd say I moved from one type of Timmy to another; I used to like clearing stages as easily and efficiently as possible, but these days I'm more interested in trying to make a specific team work. I do enjoy the gameplay a lot and actually spend the majority of my time doing stages but the thing that sucked me in and made me stay was the lore. Don't underestimate the power of a Vorthos, fanworks are a powerful promotional material!
After seeing this, I think I'm probably a mix of Vorthos and Timmy. My main drive for playing are the story/lore and clearing stages with my favourite ops (which is mostly off-meta operators). Also, scuffed clears are way more thrilling than optimal clears. I also find that clearing easier stages with OP operators removes any challenge and makes the game boring, so I like using "weaker" ops I find fun/interesting for easier stages and bringing out "the big guns" only when I really need to.
I'm deffinitly somewhere between Johnny and Timmy, and leaning toward more toward Johnny but swing more toward one or the other depending on my mood.between
Honestly, I feel like I'm probably a mix of parts of all of them. That's part of why I've been able to play every day since the game released, and haven't become burnt out. Because no matter what content is out at the time, I can find something I like about it or some way to enjoy it.
Guess I'm a Timmy with a dash of Spike I used to competitively climb in the CC challenge but now I stayed Arknights because of IS. That game mode is soo fun
I’m more vorthos, but I like to build meta units and just use guides so I don’t have to beat the stages on my own haha. When given the choice I honestly don’t think of story or gameplay, but purely aesthetics. A well drawn new skin can definitely convince me to build an old character.
I think I'm a mix of Spike and Vorthos. I'm aiming for certain operators to have a good meta team (thank god I got Degenbrecher because I didn't have Mlynar nor Thorns nor Sylverash nor aaaaaaaaaaaaaaa) but I also build certain operators for their lore, read their events for their lore (I don't read every event because they're friggin long) and I'm finally playing the story because I got spoiled and now I NEED THE LORE
After the first three types i thought: man, where do i fit in? And then vorthos came along and is literally me. Although I am a bit in the gameplay i only use characters whose personality and story i like.
i'm all of them I start as a low-meta spike, because i dislike having events unfinished when they get launched so i use an optimized Squad for a map to get a fast clear. After all that Stress is done, i create fun teams with less conventional Operators to try and beat it in a more complicated way. Eventually, i just drop it all and just make a third run and see if i can beat the map with the operators i find the most enjoyable
This is just my own opinion about AK doctors summarized based on your vid, don't take it too seriously Timmy is like the casual players: who just plays the game normally Johnny is like the Niche players more than Spike because of experimentations (and probably they only kind of players that remembers about Practice Plans exist), just my opinion (because we don't really have no idea what they are thinking and how they made up that strat) Spike is a competitive player, you are correct... and competitive have 2 types, low end like ILA (and others) or high end players that is nothing but perfection like Pard, Sciel, etc... Vorthos is like Lore Readers, who is way better than 90% of players but just not interested in competition or achievements, these people are the kind who count how many words there are in an event (they are usually too busy in Lore, but if talking about how they play, maybe like Cesith's Lore accurate story clear ?) There are 2 more types of players imo Guide makers, the absolute GOD among players like KyoStinV, Eckogen, so many more... (if referencing to magic, they would be a lv20 wizard in a D&D session with made up spells) The other ones are Jesters (aka F*@#ing Clowns) who complain out the game difficulty or when guides don't work out for them (they have a brain, but it had gone for a vacation because done with the sh*ts their owner's decision making capabilities)
I'm more of a Vorthos who find playing as Johnny/Low Spike was a good idea, and finding fun from it. But due to that this playstyle requires a lot of time and mental energy to operate, I had to rest for half a month when I had to work HARD FSR.
Luv it !! I kinda realised how my view of the game shifted based on my account progression - ( 4y acc ) - At first it was fun to finally be able to beat the stages with whatever was the strongest team I could throw out but once I gained acces to more options I just do a lil bit of both - If the stage mechanics are annoying and just made to make you suffer then I just brote force them with 6* comps, but I also enjoy making up nieche challenges for myself to follow and try to make the most of more rarely used ops - coz whats the fun of having those 100+ build characters if you don't ever use them no? no 6* clears are lot's of fun - since everyone stand more or less on the same power level and you don't really have those 'good for everything ' ops - so it makes you think Sorry if it was too long and ye I'm not a jonny but I still like your content and how you showcase interesting ways to push the game throughout unexpected means
Constructive criticism btw. I don't know what you missed by not having background music, but the background footage could've definitely been better. Like showing Patriot bullying, 3* clears and high risk CC for the different people. As it is, my eyes kinda started to glaze over as i tried to figure out what was going on in the video that was almost completely unrelated. Great voice delivery tho 👍
i just wanted to spice up the background footage, as most other videos just had IS runs which usually took forever to record and countless retries to try and make the footage as clean as possible. I can still experiment with other stuff, but at the same time, I also don't wanna spend a bunch of sanity on background footage lol, and having the PRACTICING logo appear can be pretty annoying for some.
@@BloopsArknights Oh yeah i totally understand. Actually I was thinking you could just outsource the gameplay footage since all those types of players are also uploading videos or streaming (with permission of course). It would also help to highlight fellow creators considering the weakened state of AK content creation. Jacob Moreau, for one, is actually focused entirely on lore and has been doing voiceovers for everything including events, vignettes, operator records, and module stories
If I had a nickel for every video I've seen recently of a game I enjoy being categorized under the MTG player taxonomy, I'd have two nickels. Which isnt a lot but its weird it happened twice
ty for the upload ❤ I am literally the summation of the "worst" traits of the 3 main categories put together with a really bad waifu addiction 💀 I started recently, so far it is fun (but very difficult) I hate how I go and 3 star a test run and then repeat using sanity just to flunk it... oof
It's funny, i was converted to a johnny by a youtuber who preached similar philosophies in another game. Not really going anywhere with this information, but this video gave me a slight nostalgia dose so i thought i'd throw it out there
this is so fascinating, i love that these profiles exist. i’m definitely a timmy with a slight hint of vorthos. it’s all fun and games here baby! i flip to full vorthos when the writing truly impresses me, which… i won’t comment too deeply on that wrt arknights, but i will say that i was pleasantly surprised by the quality of silberneherze and the person who did the editing and localization for the en event and the web manga, whoever they are, needs to be promoted to supervisor and paid 10x their current salary. it is…. Good but usually if it’s a timmy game i am a timmy ✌️
Quote 'Your profile isn't based on your playstyle, it's based on what you want out of Arknights.' What if I was looking for a game to invest my time in. PVE game that has collection of anime characters with appealing desing. But found not only that but intersting worldbulding, fun gamplay (even mor fun when it's IS or Reclamation Algorithm) and superb interface (actually design choices are great in this game overall). And this 'investment' probably is still the main thing i want out of Arknights. With that said i do find some commonalities with each of those 4 profiles. And that fact alone reminds me about 4 temperaments theory (or 16 personalities, not a big difference) where i had the same problem. Nowadays, this theory is regarded by scientific community as, to put it bluntly, bullshit. With scientiests leaning to more gradual distribution (like in OCEAN system) instead of setting defined qualities to one type (personality/profile). Also i'm sorry if it sounded offensive, just stating my honest feelings about assigning people to types. And it'd be nice to see similar video but with another perspective on this subject. With best regards to a fellow doctor.
You use Quartz because you want to make a 4 star clear I use quartz because she's a Lupo and I like playing Lupoknights We're not the same All that said bassline saved my life
@@BloopsArknights sorry if it didn't go through text but that was supposed to be a joke, not anything about you. All sarcasm aside arknights has pretty okay game balance for most content, you gotta use your head and it's one of the reasons I love this game
Me when get my thorn and silver ash and Mlynar to level 90 and many other meta OPs then go for building Franka, Kjera, Haze and who ever seems slightly interesting and catches my eye. then proceed to clear highest level of CC I can or getting every single medal in Is4 by using Gavial and trying to for whatever reason avoid the meta OPs I have built and instead pushing Aak and stainless into squad get my stage finished and finish my day by reading lore, listening to voice lines, reading profiles and go back to them from time to time and get disappointed when module lore doesn't reveal the meaning of life in Terra then proceed to get what artists have to offer and debate why Skadi isn't the most powerful operator in the game: I'm either a psychopath or all of them 👹
I'm a full on Timmy, maybe a sprinkling of Johnny in there. I pull, build and use the operators I like, whether they're my waifu or I just think they're cool. I do like buff army shenanigans, maybe that's more Spike than Johnny? Idk lol
I feel like ive sort of experienced each of those categories at some point in my three years of playing arknights nowadays i feel like post infinity war thanos, admiring characters e2 art and skins(pinecone has the best skin in the game btw lmaoo). Im still gonna drop a nuke occasionally on event enemies cuz of the hell i went through in pinch out but i think its fun in a way for me yknow lol
I'm a Timmy with a bit of Johnny. I like making themes, narratives even. In Arknights I wanna make a team that is nothing but heavy firepower and explosions because EXPLOSION! In MTG I wanna make a deck all about mecha like it's sponsored by Battletech Armored Core and Gundam. Are either of those themes meta? HECK NO, they are far from it. However I do want to make them good enough to be mildly competitive without sacrificing the theme.
As someone who about a year ago just... Stopped reading the cutscenes because I dont like that its sometimes 20 minutes between stages its fascinating how much of the community adores that part of the game still.
For me I think I lean Timmy but if I feel like it I try nicheknights clears usually in IS modes to challenge myself every once in a while since I feel more comfortable experimenting on those maps
First off? I will say that I love these types of "Profiles" and "Stats" for people and how they approach games. Core-A Gaming did a similar video to yours where he discussed the Three Types of Fighting Game Players which is a Theory by "Laugh" (The Three Types being Brain, Heart and Body) Really good watch! As for this video? I have a bit of all three Profiles mixed in me. My Fun for Arknights is using whoever I want and figuring out stages even if its not the most Optimal. But I also like Optimizing what I do! Basically? I'm like 60% Johnny, 25% Timmy, 15% Spike!
you are absolutely right, i love to see my team of only hot men in every single stage, i do like that the world is a lot darker and that the characters are all very diverse, but i mostly have fun rolling gacha for guy characters made with as much love and care as the girls. Even if there are few compared to the girls, i think the guys in arknights are top notch
lol i definitely used to be a bit of a vorthos player, i'd be up all night just reading random files of operators that i use XD honestly though, arknights stories are a bit wordy, and that's coming from a person who actually reads lmao but anyways, great video! i'm definitely a timmy player like what you told me haha, i play this game for fun! and i think it's fun seeing how different people play this game, which is why i love seeing things like nicheknights and low-level clears, because they inspire me to do something awesome myself with my own operators! and honestly that's mostly why i watch your videos, they let me see the game in a different light! (and of course they're good videos in general lol), if i never came across your channel i'd probably still be hating on crushers not knowing what they're actually used for XD don't give up on living ❤
I dont know what kind of profile I fit in. I kind of like the resource gathering. And I like GETTING the units but not necessarily doing something with them. Hell it's been years and I still follow eckogen guides through nearly every event and map and genuinely enjoy doing it that way. I don't care for the lore with the only event I've ever actually read through being Break the Ice. Hmn. I dunno.
I wanna use Quartz, but not really Quartz, because I'd rather use Wind Chimes over Quartz, but I don't have Windy, so my Quartz remains at level 60, lol.. Similarly when I was picking between Kroos2 and GreyThroat to E2, I had to go with Kroos because she was more unique and dedicated with her rapidfire whereas Greythroat is "weaker" than both Exusia and Archetto, specifically Archetto's S3 is just a better form of Greythroat's S2! - Just like how Quartz's better skill is her generic S1, but Wind Chime's generic S1 is, by design, strictly better..! And! I *want* to use Coldshot too; but the upcomming Ray outdoes her directly with her S2! BUT, I'd use Tequilla over Mylnar anyway, Qiubai over Surtr anyway, Ch'en and Irene over Degenbrecher, Amiya and Haze over Logos, or even W and Rosmontis over Wisadel anyway, because I have reasons to rather *not* use them, even if it's self imposed? Well that's just, the behavior of mine this discussion reminds me of heh.. I'd feel obligated to use what's *directly* better out of principle, optimizing those resources and all that, but under that I want to use who I enjoy, and emphasize the more unique or appealing things of the "weaker" ones, right?
I mean, meta Arknights is so piss easy that everybody becomes a Johnny. xD But let's be honest here, I doubt any player is just one of these archetypes, hell I even formulated one of my problems in Arknights before as the hard decision between building an operator that I might not like story or character wise, but like for the unique gameplay (Blemishine is a prime example of this, pretty boring lore wise, but two very interesting applications gameplay wise with making defensive recovery skills offensive as well and making the whole sleep niche possible), which according to the archetypes are two different archetypes clashing. I really like Arknights world, lore and characters, which would be part of the 4th archetype, but I usually don't have it impact my gameplay all too much, apart from picking certain character over another similar character because I like them more (for lore/character reasons). I'm also mainly interested in doing interesting clears over just clearing a stage, but everybody with half a braincell gets pushed into that kind of mindset by Arknights design, with full meta teams making the gameplay way too easy and boring. Which hits both the first (going toward niche optimization) and second (finding uses for interesting characters that might not be classical 'good') archetypes, which makes me and probably most people three archetypes and the fourth is the meta one that is actively disincentivised by Hypergryph themselves by making the game boring. The only way I see the meta archetype working for someone is when they are just in it for the story (4th archetype) and don't want to waste time on anything else, so they go full meta to reduce the gameplay to a minimum.
It is kinda 4 switches you can choose when playing Arknights. I know some people do not want to choose, they just act of their beliefs. I always saying it is the game you can go full casual and go full nerd accordingly. Depends on your need.
Timmy plays with what he seems fun, Johnny is the mechanical one and Spike is the competitive. Then what the hell am I if all i upgrade all my operators and throw them at a wall until it works
I would say you would be more a Johnny, since Spike is more oriented towards optimization for a competitive reason as opposed to wanting to do so for the sake of experimentation or fun. The profiles aren't defined by how you play, they are defined by why you play.
I originally started the game cause I like tower defense games but really fell in love with the characters, worldbuilding, and story. I've fallen out of love with the gameplay lately (likely a result of FOMO-induced burnout) but I still stick around for the story aspects of the game. That being said, I still like to challenge myself by clearing story and most EX stages with the same team I've been using since year 1, which can pose some interesting challenges due to differences in design philosophy between then and now, and I built all the fox operators in anticipation of trying out the Vulpoknights niche (though I burned out before I could actually try it.) It feels like I'm a bit of everything?
I am making way too many comments on this video but theres so much for me to comment on I just have to. 9:47 yeah thats the thing. I love Quartz' design and almost everything about her, but I'm no Johnny so using her in actual gameplay is a complete nightmare for me
I'm no Johnny. More of waifu meta player hybrid. I pull only characters I like but if character that can make character I like stronger appears then you can bet that I'm gonna pull them unless they are near the release of other character I really like I love Skadi, this is why I'm gonna pull every Abyssal Hunter I love Młynar and this is why I spent my f2p originum prime on his skin I adore Penance and this is why I grinded my ass for her skin and used orondum I was keeping for W'isadel on her
I'm probably closest to a Vorthos, with the caveat that I don't actually enjoy most of what Arknights creates. I used to when I started the game but both the game and my standards have changed substantially over 4 years. Now I'm stuck ranting at every corner because I care too much about Terra only to see Hypergryph fumble again and again. Abandoned plot threads, non-sensical world building, awful characters, janky character arcs, horrible prose and or translation, pacing... Arknights has done it all in some capacity. Obviously there are moments of greatness aswell but there are very few AK pieces of content I would genuinely call great with my current understanding of storytelling. Doesn't help that most of the better ones are sidestories, the main story has been outright terrible ever since chapter 10.
I think its a bit overstated here that Vorthos is easily pleased. "An operator that already exists in the story is enough to please Vorthos" is somewhat reductive and misses the point of what Vorthos cares about. Pleasing Vorthos is not about pages of lore and operators that appear in the storyline, it is about making a good story. Vorthos cares about something outside the confines of pure gameplay. Vorthos doesn't care that an operator exists, they care why the operator exists and who that operator is. This applies to the core premise. The more standard gacha slop will have more generic stories and thus will not appeal to Vorthos. A Vorthos who happens to get into a game with a more standard story will eventually be pushed into one of the other roles, or be pushed away entirely. Thus they either become Spike or they quit.
Really interesting way to analyse and view players from a dev pov. How does the MTG community view this classification? Do they agree or disagree with it?
The original classifications of Timmy Johnny and Spike were obtained by the MTG devs studying the playerbase and coming to that conclusion. It's more of the reality of Magic than it is a concept.
"Arknights isnt like most gacha games. Its what I like to call GOOD." This rings so much more true for me after all the gachas I've been trying to get into lately have flopped for me. Gacha games need to stop trying to get me to play every single day, just give me an auto-grind mechanic like Arknights does and I'll be happy!
fuck i forgot the background music
Edit: Your profile isn't based on your playstyle, it's based on what you want out of Arknights. The profile can form your playstyle, but it isn't entirely reliant on it.
i honestly didn't even notice
I aim to max every op sometime in the future but for now I maxed all 3☆'s , 33% of 4☆, 5☆ only mint and honeyberry, and 57% of 6☆ are built I crave for more content to clear as I only use 3 and 4☆ to clear ISO and I never bother with SSS😂
CHAT HE MADE A MAGIC REFERENCE LETS FUCKIN GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
(the next video is also about magic)

She pretty much sets up every stage on her own for me.
tbh in the current event I think it's funny to use the ice-themed units to activate the heaters
Yooo another Vulpoknights enjoyer spotted 👀
This is how I mostly do stage, I'll start with my waifus, then if I can't beat the stage with them, I'll slowly integrate my meta team.
"Excuse me? Tamamo Cat is clearly a dog, she even says 'woof'"
A Chiave appreciator let's gooo!
No joke though, that lad is fun to use. One of my favorite decisions in life is promoting ABC Gang.
Module was given actual cold status, things aren't that bad anymore
@@rumekfuria6037
I mean... 25% cold chance? Aspd down is good i guess, but being able to freeze is way more helpful and she only has a 6% chance to do that. Not to mention that her self aspd buff on S2 isn't even enough to change that, because she still can only get one attack in the duration of her cold effect.
@@123goofyking 1. I said "not as bad", not "good"
2. Ability to unironically add her to freeze teams as a minor assist
Damn you were pretty right, I probably a Vorthos with how many things I love about the game that arent just exclusive to the gameplay kek
(And im also very very easy to please with anything they make)
Came back to Arknights after 2 and half years and the first thing that surprised me when i came back to the game was the same figures and same people talking about the same subjects back when i was involved heavily in community.
A lot of Timmy,
A bit of John,
Nothing of Spike.
Same for me. The settings and story are what have kept me with the game.
To me Arknights is the 3rd person version of Warframe
I love the lore, Terra is great place to rp within
love collecting event medals
Fav ops : Goldenglow , Ch'en(alter) , Laurentina and Quarz
idk what type of player am tho
imo, a Timmy
@@BloopsArknights forgot to ad that my favorite gamode is Integrated strategies
This sounds probably like Vorthos (here for the story).
And just like with magic, I’m a fucking Timmy through and through, with a very small seasoning of Johnny
-Wheelchair creaking noises- TiMMeeeH!
Love to see the mention of the Vorthos players. Really nice adaptation of the players profile of MTG!!!!
Also, I too belive you defintly are a Johnny
So glad you brought up Vorthos. It's one of the most important archetypes to include if you ask me, and I'd say I'm a mix of Timmy/Vorthos
Interesting..so I'm a mix of Timmy and Vorthos :o
same lol
I do have a couple thoughts as both a nicheknights player and someone who was brought into the game from the Vorthos mindset:
Firstly, I'd *definitely* consider the vast majority of nicheknights as a Johnny thing rather than a Spike thing!
(I personally very much have Johnny and Spike motivations too, but know a good amount of people who are more of a pure Vorthos; these comments are based on a combination of where I was at as a beginner player, and what I've observed in these friends.)
Most people who do lore-accurate runs are actually doing a Johnny thing; Vorthos players tend to actually be the most "boring" in terms of gameplay unless they've also got streaks of the other archetypes in them-because for them, the gameplay is just a means to an end, to be swept away as quickly and easily as possible.
The doctors were presented with a selection of bosses and a set of premade squads that they would choose from to fight those bosses. afterwards, they were given a descriptor for their playstyle depending on what type of squads they favoured:
choose mostly squads with meta units: The bold duellist (somewhat comparable to the high meta spike)
choose mostly squads that are well-rounded: the fearless duellist
choose mostly squads specifically tailored to that specific boss: the decisive tactician
choose mostly low rarity squads: the inventive tactician (somewhat comparable to the low meta spike)
choose squads that fit with what happened in the story: the tranquil chameleon (vorthos).
We were actually given the results data for this event. As it turns out, over 60% of doctors who took the survey got the "bold duellist" result. It's became somewhat of a meme in the CN community. As for what I got? Well...
*我!就是自己的可汗!* If you know, you know.
I play in a way thats fun for me-
One part Johnny.
I love the character and this world, that I do
But I have too little time to do things lore accurate. I mean, Nian give me the Goat Knight, and by her will I shall make use of her!
My playstyle progression has been
Timmy➡️High Meta Spike➡️Low Meta Spike with a hint of Johnny.
I'm deffinitly somewhere between Johnny and Timmy, and leaning toward more toward Johnny but swing more toward one or the other depending on my mood.between
I would say I am somewhere in between Spike/Timmy who prioritise resources for top operators but still try to raise all of them to E2
Honestly, I feel like I'm probably a mix of parts of all of them. That's part of why I've been able to play every day since the game released, and haven't become burnt out. Because no matter what content is out at the time, I can find something I like about it or some way to enjoy it.
Guess I'm a Timmy with a dash of Spike
I used to competitively climb in the CC challenge but now I stayed Arknights because of IS.
Im a Spike and a Vorthos mix with a hint of Johnny
i'm all of them
I start as a low-meta spike, because i dislike having events unfinished when they get launched
so i use an optimized Squad for a map to get a fast clear.
After all that Stress is done, i create fun teams with less conventional Operators to try and beat it in a more complicated way.
Eventually, i just drop it all and just make a third run and see if i can beat the map with the operators i find the most enjoyable
This is just my own opinion about AK doctors summarized based on your vid, don't take it too seriously
Timmy is like the casual players: who just plays the game normally
Johnny is like the Niche players more than Spike because of experimentations (and probably they only kind of players that remembers about Practice Plans exist), just my opinion (because we don't really have no idea what they are thinking and how they made up that strat)
Spike is a competitive player, you are correct... and competitive have 2 types, low end like ILA (and others) or high end players that is nothing but perfection like Pard, Sciel, etc...
Vorthos is like Lore Readers, who is way better than 90% of players but just not interested in competition or achievements, these people are the kind who count how many words there are in an event (they are usually too busy in Lore, but if talking about how they play, maybe like Cesith's Lore accurate story clear ?)
There are 2 more types of players imo
Guide makers, the absolute GOD among players like KyoStinV, Eckogen, so many more... (if referencing to magic, they would be a lv20 wizard in a D&D session with made up spells)
The other ones are Jesters (aka F*@#ing Clowns) who complain out the game difficulty or when guides don't work out for them (they have a brain, but it had gone for a vacation because done with the sh*ts their owner's decision making capabilities)
I'm more of a Vorthos who find playing as Johnny/Low Spike was a good idea, and finding fun from it.
But due to that this playstyle requires a lot of time and mental energy to operate, I had to rest for half a month when I had to work HARD FSR.
Luv it !! I kinda realised how my view of the game shifted based on my account progression - ( 4y acc ) - At first it was fun to finally be able to beat the stages with whatever was the strongest team I could throw out but once I gained acces to more options I just do a lil bit of both -
If the stage mechanics are annoying and just made to make you suffer then I just brote force them with 6* comps,
but I also enjoy making up nieche challenges for myself to follow and try to make the most of more rarely used ops - coz whats the fun of having those 100+ build characters if you don't ever use them no?
no 6* clears are lot's of fun - since everyone stand more or less on the same power level and you don't really have those 'good for everything ' ops - so it makes you think
Sorry if it was too long
and ye I'm not a jonny but I still like your content and how you showcase interesting ways to push the game throughout unexpected means
Great video. Let's play freely without being influenced by others.
Damn I'm Timmy and Vorthos' love child😂
Constructive criticism btw.
I don't know what you missed by not having background music, but the background footage could've definitely been better. Like showing Patriot bullying, 3* clears and high risk CC for the different people.
As it is, my eyes kinda started to glaze over as i tried to figure out what was going on in the video that was almost completely unrelated.
Great voice delivery tho 👍
Actually, wait a second. Your past videos are awesome in terms of visuals 🤔
i just wanted to spice up the background footage, as most other videos just had IS runs which usually took forever to record and countless retries to try and make the footage as clean as possible. I can still experiment with other stuff, but at the same time, I also don't wanna spend a bunch of sanity on background footage lol, and having the PRACTICING logo appear can be pretty annoying for some.

Oh yeah i totally understand. Actually I was thinking you could just outsource the gameplay footage since all those types of players are also uploading videos or streaming (with permission of course).
It would also help to highlight fellow creators considering the weakened state of AK content creation. Jacob Moreau, for one, is actually focused entirely on lore and has been doing voiceovers for everything including events, vignettes, operator records, and module stories

hey there new doctor. welcome to the game!
It's funny, i was converted to a johnny by a youtuber who preached similar philosophies in another game. Not really going anywhere with this information, but this video gave me a slight nostalgia dose so i thought i'd throw it out there
this is so fascinating, i love that these profiles exist. i’m definitely a timmy with a slight hint of vorthos. it’s all fun and games here baby! i flip to full vorthos when the writing truly impresses me, which… i won’t comment too deeply on that wrt arknights, but i will say that i was pleasantly surprised by the quality of silberneherze and the person who did the editing and localization for the en event and the web manga, whoever they are, needs to be promoted to supervisor and paid 10x their current salary. it is…. Good
but usually if it’s a timmy game i am a timmy ✌️
I believe every longtime AK player has a bit of Voros in them
Quote 'Your profile isn't based on your playstyle, it's based on what you want out of Arknights.'
What if I was looking for a game to invest my time in.
I'm Timmy and Vorthos (as a fanartist, i really love AK worldbuilding and designs)
I'd be a mix of Timmy, Johnny and Vorthos ig XD
You use Quartz because you want to make a 4 star clear
I use quartz because she's a Lupo and I like playing Lupoknights
We're not the same
All that said bassline saved my life
I use Quartz beyond 4-star clears, I just think Crushers are fun lol. I use her, Windchimes and Hoederer all the time.

Idk lol
I feel like ive sort of experienced each of those categories at some point in my three years of playing arknights
nowadays i feel like post infinity war thanos, admiring characters e2 art and skins(pinecone has the best skin in the game btw lmaoo). Im still gonna drop a nuke occasionally on event enemies cuz of the hell i went through in pinch out but i think its fun in a way for me yknow lol
i have never felt more seen. im changing my name to Vorthos
I guess i count as a voros, timmy and johnny
I'm the Johnny guy, my current favorite is Gladiia with specter alter in front
I'm a Timmy with a bit of Johnny.
I like making themes, narratives even. In Arknights I wanna make a team that is nothing but heavy firepower and explosions because EXPLOSION! In MTG I wanna make a deck all about mecha like it's sponsored by Battletech Armored Core and Gundam. Are either of those themes meta? HECK NO, they are far from it. However I do want to make them good enough to be mildly competitive without sacrificing the theme.
That's a rather Shallow way of putting it.
I think about that article all the time. I really am a Johnny no matter what game I play.
timyy NOOO
has archetto, immediately liked and subscribed
First off? I will say that I love these types of "Profiles" and "Stats" for people and how they approach games.
Core-A Gaming did a similar video to yours where he discussed the Three Types of Fighting Game Players which is a Theory by "Laugh" (The Three Types being Brain, Heart and Body)
Really good watch!
To all those Vorthos-Timmy's out there, where ya at?
what type am i then, magic man
i dont knowwwww, it's not my job to decideeeeee
i knew it you're a fake and a fraud, mods sue this man
you are absolutely right, i love to see my team of only hot men in every single stage, i do like that the world is a lot darker and that the characters are all very diverse, but i mostly have fun rolling gacha for guy characters made with as much love and care as the girls. Even if there are few compared to the girls, i think the guys in arknights are top notch
lol i definitely used to be a bit of a vorthos player, i'd be up all night just reading random files of operators that i use XD honestly though, arknights stories are a bit wordy, and that's coming from a person who actually reads lmao
but anyways, great video! i'm definitely a timmy player like what you told me haha, i play this game for fun! and i think it's fun seeing how different people play this game, which is why i love seeing things like nicheknights and low-level clears, because they inspire me to do something awesome myself with my own operators! and honestly that's mostly why i watch your videos, they let me see the game in a different light! (and of course they're good videos in general lol), if i never came across your channel i'd probably still be hating on crushers not knowing what they're actually used for XD
don't give up on living ❤
I dont know what kind of profile I fit in. I kind of like the resource gathering. And I like GETTING the units but not necessarily doing something with them. Hell it's been years and I still follow eckogen guides through nearly every event and map and genuinely enjoy doing it that way. I don't care for the lore with the only event I've ever actually read through being Break the Ice. Hmn. I dunno.
Can't believe i'm an npc named timmy.
Welp, it is what it is...
thanks for explaining the who is real event mechanics... but were those boxes of text/images that covered the guide clear?
I mean, meta Arknights is so piss easy that everybody becomes a Johnny. xD
But let's be honest here, I doubt any player is just one of these archetypes, hell I even formulated one of my problems in Arknights before as the hard decision between building an operator that I might not like story or character wise, but like for the unique gameplay (Blemishine is a prime example of this, pretty boring lore wise, but two very interesting applications gameplay wise with making defensive recovery skills offensive as well and making the whole sleep niche possible), which according to the archetypes are two different archetypes clashing.
QUARTZ IS AMAZING WHADDAYOU MEANGAGANAGANAGANGAJAGABAG
Timmy plays with what he seems fun, Johnny is the mechanical one and Spike is the competitive.
Then what the hell am I if all i upgrade all my operators and throw them at a wall until it works
a timmy
Guess I'm a mix of both Johnny and Spike with how I'm one of the many people focused specifically on optimizing with bad operators
I can't wait to see your foxes 🦊💖
Sometimes i feel like a depressed Timmy who tries too hard to be Spike...
Vorhos is me, I'm vorthos. It me!
Tell me your favorite team dear Vorthos, i want to know how freaky you are for no particular reason 0.0
Timmy SMASH!
Timmy bad.
Spike elitist.
Spike bad.
-Signed, a Johnny player
(Please play the way you want to. gl;hf)
I am definitely a mix of 50% Timmy 45% Spike and 5% Johnny.
Johnny here! E2 Spuria and Frostleaf goes brrr 😝
And for others who survived after that info: *whispering* I have E2 Conviction 🤭🤭
My conviction S1 is M2 :o
heya, the art you included was neat! did you draw those?
that is my girlfriend's work, i cannot draw, she is amazing
@@BloopsArknights neat! she really is amazing, those concepts were great
I am making way too many comments on this video but theres so much for me to comment on I just have to.
9:47 yeah thats the thing. I love Quartz' design and almost everything about her, but I'm no Johnny so using her in actual gameplay is a complete nightmare for me
I'm no Johnny. More of waifu meta player hybrid. I pull only characters I like but if character that can make character I like stronger appears then you can bet that I'm gonna pull them unless they are near the release of other character I really like
I love Skadi, this is why I'm gonna pull every Abyssal Hunter
I love Młynar and this is why I spent my f2p originum prime on his skin
I adore Penance and this is why I grinded my ass for her skin and used orondum I was keeping for W'isadel on her
looks like im a timmy and high meta spike player
I didn't find myself there...
I like birds. Game has birds. Therefore, I like game.
Its what I like to call GOOD."
This rings so much more true for me after all the gachas I've been trying to get into lately have flopped for me. Gacha games need to stop trying to get me to play every single day, just give me an auto-grind mechanic like Arknights does and I'll be happy!
Been playing since launch. And been playing mtg since the 90s...i never made this connection
Edit: I am a Timmy in both
