Right? Like I looked at all these clones and kinda laughed at them because it was Behringer and their stuff is always cheap and bad. Low and behold a friend gets a Behringer model D, and sends me a track and raves about how fat that thing is. So I decided to cave and actually have a look at it and after hearing it sound exactly like my mother32 but with three voices, i decided to look at behringer’s other synths, and now, next month, I’m buying this one. The MS-20 is like one of the sounds of my childhood (I’m a child of the mid 90’ to mid 00’s.) even though it was made in 1971, it wasn’t popular until around the time I was born and beyond.
James Corcoran for real brother. I just got the Neutron, it’s even cheaper for some reason now! Was thinking of a used Future Retro which was nice but even used still 3x the price. Thinking about Model D. And this too... I kind of always liked the ms-20 but pricey, but if this gets down to current Neutron levels, why not. I am very happy for Behringer for showing the truth.... that 30+ year old technology in this day and age should be able to be done cheaply! I just got a dfam and it’s cool... have sub 37 too. But honestly it’s overpriced. Just like American vs overseas made guitars... many, many times the overseas versions are as good or even better quality than American made (cough, Gibson), at a fifth the price or less.
EDub Bro I love my DFAM. But a lot of Moogs stuff is way overpriced (Moog one? Seriously?). I like how Behringer is bringing synths from a market previously only populated by old people, rich people, or collectors to a market that includes the average musician.
@@Jimbo386000 Cool, you have one too! :) Yeah that One is ridiculous. I listened to a demo just the other day, and I actually wasn't swayed at all. I have so many patches on my VSTs and my Korg that can sound the same in the mix. I am all or Behringer too. (now just don't let it fall apart on me... lol... I kid, I kid... sort of! :0)
EDub bro I just got a neutron like 3 days ago and sold my mother 32. Best decision I think I’ve ever made. Not that the mother is bad, but for my style of playing, it’s just kinda lacking in features and sound. And since I use my computer like 90% of the time, the sequencer was just a bonus but not essential. But the neutron, even only having it three days, is like my new baby. I guess. But I don't get the appeal really. To me many of the recreations (and this might be an exception because it has a patch bay) are just limited synths playing on people's feelings of nostalgia. The 2 oscillator 1 filter synth has been done to death. And back in the "Moog" days you could say "yes but the Moog has premium components and a unique ladder design" but that no longer stands. I feel like the market is stalling because people want these synths that can be emulated to 99% accuracy of any modern synth =s Where those modern synths lack the "nostalgia" they often offer a much more flexible engine. The Neutron is a great example. I love that thing. It does the classic 2 osc 1 filter but with oscillators that can transition between waveshapes and a patchbay that allows it to be used in conjunction with other patchbay synths. More of that! How about a 6 voice Neutron? Add a Model D inspired filter and a Ms-20 inspired filter and you have something new that can be at least 4 synths instead of just an emulation of 1 synth =l Sounds very marketable as well... One box to pretty much have a MS-20, Model D, Neutron and a Juno 106 but with a patchbay to go way out of that realm. I guess I'll wait for ASM to start doing things like that because they do seem to get it.

I own a Ms20 for around 15 years.. and can´t agree more.. it has that low bass and kinda "acid" tone but still being clean and mellow when pushing the resonance.. the mini sounds a bit more noisy and little crispy to my ears (not necessarelly bad).
@@xamstradx Yep. I totally agree with what you wrote above. You can immediately recognize Mr Oizo's Flat Beat filter sweep sound and Da Funk in the video. My MS20 mini is a great instrument but it sounds different.
Wow, soooo good! I love this one, you guys did an amazing job :) I just sold my MS-20mini after getting an original MS-20 rev2 but now I think I'll get the K2 to compliment it. I'm going for the whole set of Behringer synths!
@@Modjazzbeatbcn I purchased my MS20 mini second-hand and the keys were yellowed and uneven. It was my first MS20, so I didn't mind the faults at the time. When I got a vintage MS20, I sold the mini to fund more gear. I'd go for the K-2 because it has both filters and is within my budget. Besides all of the that, the MS20 mini is fantastic, although the MS20 Module kit is better for its extra functionality and switchable filters.
This along with the Pro-1 remake, which is identical if not more capable than the original which I own, and even further with some older general music gear I have or have had by you such as an audio interface currently, the UMC204HD, as well as a small guitar speaker that has travelled with me literally from each coast of the US because, for it being a practice amp, it had full dial of bass, mid, and treble which is uncommon for a practice amp and gave it a wider more usable sound- All of your hardware is incredibly versatile, affordable, and feature rich containing additions that are most often excluded or seemingly not considered, and that gives you a lot of authenticity. You guys set the bar for music gear.
BEHRINGER hehe yeah I cannot wait!!! Never had a ms20 (only vst) so really excited. Hope all goes well and you get the synths shipped soon guys. You are rocking it!!!
@@behringer Hi guys, I got it a couple of weeks ago and really really love it!! I have created a little tune in my channel, head over to it if you fancy. Thank you!!
holy cow the things Behringer are doing in the synth world are nothing short of revolutionary. Just the Minimoog replica itself was an amazing achievement, but all these other incredible goodies are even more amazing. Now, let's have a full on analog replica of the Jup 8, the Juno 60, and the Matrix 12!
You've already done one better than Korg by actually matching the transistors. As much as I love Korg they they really made some odd choices when building it.
There are exact SMD equivalents of all the original Japanese semiconductors (just different package) - this includes the 2SC1685, 2SC1583, 2SK30A etc.. . If you're an engineer and know what you're doing it takes about 15 seconds to do a parametric search to identify the parts.
@@bcastromusic Yes exactly, I wasn't disputing that. In fact I have the schematic for the mini, kit and original MS-20's and the mini is almost identical to the original. Also the parts quality is superb, Japanese ELNA capacitors and ALPS pots but the overall construction is weird i.e. not nutting the pots, fake plastic nuts for the mini jacks etc I can live with most of that but my main gripe is the transistor matching which mind blowingly they didn't do! The input signal level in the Korg35 Mk1 filter block is about 8mV (hence its higher background noise levels compared with the OTA-based Mk2 featuring LM13700), and is reputed to have poor CV bleed-through. This in conjunction with the fact that the Mk1 transistors need to be matched for optimum performance makes me think that the level of this matching could well be the reason for the large 'DC thump' variation between units. Basically, two of the transistors are used as variable resistors by operating them in 'reverse' saturation mode',
Filter 1 screams. Filter 2 a bit more subdued but overall this thing sounds amazing. Out of nowhere Behringer is bringing the best of classics back to us (ANALOG not digital) and making them affordable. Can’t wait to get my hands on that RD9 and when they do that Synthi one day (oh I hope!!!)
I need to second this, I decided to have one at 0:32 of this video and just quit watching it. Now, one Month later, I came back to see if I still want it (as I have salary day now :) Yes. Sound says yes. However, are the patchpoint eurorack or Hz/V ?
@@vileguile4 Yeah really. It feels strange how people in the synth community seem to pretend everybody has enough disposable income that purchases like these are pocket change. I don't get it. Music is and has always been an expensive hobby/pursuit, even if it's more accessible and cheap than ever. I'm here with a few Volcas and my crown jewel synth is a Minilogue, which is still considered a relatively "budget" synth. It took me 3 years to get my current setup. That would also include my laptop, Behringer U-Phoria UMC22 interface, Boss PH-3 pedal (used for $54), Arturia Keystep (also used), a cool mono speaker I found at goodwill for $12 (called the Tivoli Audio Model One), Behringer Xenyx 1202FX mixer (and yet another used piece) to get all outputs into my one speaker, or my audio interface/Zoom H1 to record. All that and I still haven't pushed past what a lot of people would call the "essentials" of a synth setup. I don't even use proper racks or stands because they generally are costly; My Minilogue is behind my Keystep on a bunch of books and CDs to angle it slightly and level it above my Keystep and make both playable, and two of my Volcas are in a $5 wooden box I found at Michael's, the top half leaning against a cheapo mobile VR headset my dad got me to pretend it's an adjustable rack (with 2 settings: 165° and 180°, lol). I'm not complaining, don't get me wrong. I LOVE my setup. But we shouldn't pretend $300 is "cheap" for everybody. For a lot of people (like me), thinking about getting a $750 groovebox like an Elektron Digitakt is an absurdly large investment and won't even be considered. Thank god we have the Novation Circuit.
@@davidjones3384 You misunderstood me. It was not that the price was high. It's the other way around. It's such a good price for what you get it's hard to resist. Now, if it was just one synth like that on the market but it isn't. After a couple wallet starts to hurt.
Definitely sounds beefier than a MS20 mini in a good way, kudos for making this. It would have been perfect if it had all MS20m additions : PWM, FM and oscillator sync. Nothing wrong with that though, given the price point. Keep it up behringer ! I'll definitely pick one of these to make company for my ms20m
@@Synthfidel The worst thing about the keystep is not knowing what the tempo is. I have to have something clock it to use it. They should have put the little screen on it like on the BSP.
Henry Hill Hi, yes..if you can get one in good condition it’s ok. But we are talking of a synth that has more than 30 years. Some of them are still very delicate and they have problems with keyboard callibration error and other issues.
The Model D, the Neutron, now the K-2 and soon the Pro-1.... Behringer needs to make a Eurorack case so I can fit all of their amazing synths in one case and use one power outlet instead 4 (eventually 10 if they keep this up! Lol)
Haha @@vrsstudiosorlando4062 I asked this on the Roland sub reddit, and was told "It's 5 synths in one." I'll stick with my Korg Minilogue XD, and maybe one of these new Behringer synths.
The only thing I miss:There is no output for the wheel. At the original MS20 and also Korg MS20 mini you have it.Nice patches are possible,if you have that capability. It is good for control the extra VCA.One of the best use was:Wheel as the source for S/H.It is not understandable to forget that. The data is coming into the K2 from midi. But you can't do anything with it.Only pitch bend seems to be possible. Behringer please do it in the second revision
because this is eurorack size, you can install it in a rack and add your own mod wheel from doepfer (A-174-2 duel mod wheels) or an A-174-1 joystick! Problem solved! www.doepfer.de/a1742.htm www.doepfer.de/a174.htm
Can you clock the LFO to MIDI? Would then make a really useful expander to my original MS20. If not now is it something you could do via firmware at a later date?

Man when they bring their cs80 clone, i am a goner, lol.
Deepminds, odyssey, k-2. Sheesh i should just sell myself to Behringer and be done with it.
Yeah, it plus the mini is way more noisy than this... Guess we'll have to reinvest into this.
simple, ms20 mini is not a ms20
Can I ask why you sold the mini?
@@Modjazzbeatbcn I purchased my MS20 mini second-hand and the keys were yellowed and uneven. It was my first MS20, so I didn't mind the faults at the time. When I got a vintage MS20, I sold the mini to fund more gear. I'd go for the K-2 because it has both filters and is within my budget. Besides all of the that, the MS20 mini is fantastic, although the MS20 Module kit is better for its extra functionality and switchable filters.
Just bought the Model D the other day and now you come up with this! Daamn... here we go again
Sounds immense 😮 mine should be here in a week or two 🤗.... can’t wait. Thank You Behringer ❤️
Thanks Jason. Hope you enjoy it as much as we did :)
Looks and sounds incredible 👏 can’t wait for mine to arrive!! Hopefully end of next week apparently!!! Very nice patches and demo
Thanks PatchMonger, appreciate that :). Looking forward to see what your creative skills will do with this one!
I bet he is playing the daft punk melody wrong to avoid copyright strike, sounds like the real thing:D

Lovely work Behringer. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for a JUNO 106 clone at some point in the coming years.

BEHRINGER my pleasure, love your new synth
Wtf you just keep putting out incredible synths
You've already done one better than Korg by actually matching the transistors. As much as I love Korg they they really made some odd choices when building it.
Release some new videos man!
vinyljunkie we love you! come back :)
Basically, two of the transistors are used as variable resistors by operating them in 'reverse' saturation mode',

was waiting for this demo, ordered as soon as video finished :D
Filter 1 screams. Filter 2 a bit more subdued but overall this thing sounds amazing. Out of nowhere Behringer is bringing the best of classics back to us (ANALOG not digital) and making them affordable. Can’t wait to get my hands on that RD9 and when they do that Synthi one day (oh I hope!!!)
Holy filtersweep, you nailed it again. Hats off for Behringer's journey on the cool scale…
Intro dirty bass kicks in... ohhh yeah,.......on screen text pops up "All Sounds Made with K2"... SHUT UP AND TAKE MY MONEY!
Love this comment! Glad you appreciated the tune we made :)
Yup
I need to second this, I decided to have one at 0:32 of this video and just quit watching it. Now, one Month later, I came back to see if I still want it (as I have salary day now :)
Yes. Sound says yes.
However, are the patchpoint eurorack or Hz/V ?
You had me at 5:04. That lower GI shaking filter that all the best synths have!
@1:16 he states that the filters are 24dB/octave... but the Korg is 6dB HP into 12dB LP.
Sounds great, anyway.
The 12 dB low pass is vital to the ms20 sound. I hope he was wrong when he said 24.
@@danpreston564 They've corrected it in the pinned post above now.
Behringer is just killin' it right now. A++
Ears: Sounds good man!

It's around $330 in the U.S. Precisely how much were you expecting to pay for a full synthesizer in hardware?
@@SPAZZOID100 I have a job...? No matter how much money you make you'll always have expenses competing for your attention.
@@vileguile4 $300 is making coffee at home for a few months. But yeah it all adds up.
big respect for your company!

I love it. Hope it'll stay in production long enough for me to get one.
Behringer. You guys are killing it. I need an fm synth please fix this soon.
Just got the Neutron a few months back. Already I want to add the Model D, the RD8, and now the K2. Behringer has been KILLING it.
damn , you guys killing it !
Beautiful sounds.
I had no idea I wanted this
lol my feelings exactly
Definitely sounds beefier than a MS20 mini in a good way, kudos for making this.
It would have been perfect if it had all MS20m additions : PWM, FM and oscillator sync.
Nothing wrong with that though, given the price point.
Keep it up behringer ! I'll definitely pick one of these to make company for my ms20m
I think it is time for Behringer to make a keybed for all these modules to fit into. Something along the lines of the Keystep. It would be handy.
Nah, Keystep Pro LE + K2 = perfection
@@Synthfidel Is there actually a Keystep Pro now?
Mikeureko just hoping. I have the black LE, and Beatstep Pro LE.
@@Synthfidel The worst thing about the keystep is not knowing what the tempo is. I have to have something clock it to use it. They should have put the little screen on it like on the BSP.

Amazing! Behringer you’re making dreams come true of many people ;) Thank you! Are we gonna see someday a replica of an Ensoniq ESQ1 too?
You know you can buy ESQ1s for less than the price of these Behringers, right?
Henry Hill Hi, yes..if you can get one in good condition it’s ok. But we are talking of a synth that has more than 30 years. Some of them are still very delicate and they have problems with keyboard callibration error and other issues.
SQ80 with polyphonic AT ... 😉🎶🎹
Great synth! Mine is still going!
OMG! I was almost m*****ting to the Korg pamphlet with these synths in it in the 80's. Stunning front panel!
Behringer is going Amazon beast mode now. Unstoppable.
But they just sound too good.

Behringer ---- SP1200 time!!!! You guys would knock it out of the park !!!
The Model D, the Neutron, now the K-2 and soon the Pro-1.... Behringer needs to make a Eurorack case so I can fit all of their amazing synths in one case and use one power outlet instead 4 (eventually 10 if they keep this up! Lol)
i was going to say the exact thing, but I'm also thinking about a 3 or 4 tier stand like Moog do for the Mother 32, now that'll look so nice (",)
Great job on the filter scream and drive
Wow! I need one in my life!
I would love to hear this unit stacked!!
Amazing! :-) I need a second mortgage now to buy all Behringers gear! pmsl....
1:45 the trigger switch was not "added", the original MS-20 has it too, on the left side behind the wheel

I agree with your point. but did you know a space is used after a period ending a sentence and starting a new one?
Why would they make an output for a wheel that doesn't even exist? Ya'll sound like some spoiled children
because this is eurorack size, you can install it in a rack and add your own mod wheel from doepfer (A-174-2 duel mod wheels) or an A-174-1 joystick! Problem solved!

Can you clock the LFO to MIDI? Would then make a really useful expander to my original MS20. If not now is it something you could do via firmware at a later date?
